Wow! I got UTB's e-mail newsletter, and it sounds like UTB will air Partners 12 right after the first season of CSI finishes airing this month. Wow. Maybe UTB read my negative comments about CSI and decided to bring Partners 12 back earlier than they planned! LOL! (Just kidding. :no sweatemoticon

I'm really surprised Partners 12 is airing so quickly, though. It's actually still airing in Japan—I think there are a few more to go. We rarely see dramas over here that are still airing in Japan, so I'm pleasantly surprised that UTB is airing this so soon!

Great news—it made my day!

Interesting on the mention of Republic of Toa (and possibly Eldovia). Weren't these mentioned in the season finale of Season 11?

Now, if we can just talk UTB into airing the feature films. The upcoming Partners III movie (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVJZjMDyvWg ) looks very interesting, if for no other reason than the trailer shows a scene with Ukyo, Kaito, and Kanbe together.

Anyway, happy to see Aibou back so soon. Enjoyed the opener (James. Bond.), but wish it had aired to completion.

Hm. Running http://www.aibou-movie.jp/news.html through Google Translate, it sounds like there will be a prologue to the movie airing(?) in Japan in the weeks leading up to its release. We're missing the fun! Oh well, we have five months of episodes to catch up, first.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒12 (Partners 12)

<EPISODE 1> (Part 1)

Yay! So happy that Partners is back. Season 12 just finished airing in Japan, so we're seeing something that Japanese audiences saw just a couple of months ago. Something feels really different about this season, for some reason. I don't know what it is, but it just feels like there is a rather distinct feel to it. The opening sequence music seemed different from the previous seasons, too. I wonder if Partners is headed for another format/casting change? This will prove to be an interesting season, I bet.

One thing I've noticed is that Partners really "keeps up with the times" when it comes to these cases. As the seasons have gone on, we've seen quite a lot of cases involving various mediums of technology. This case appears to be one of them. It certainly keeps things very interesting and relevant, doesn't it?

I was so relieved that Kaito hadn't gotten caught up in that cult-like following for real. It turns out he was just curious since the cult "leader" knew about the role Kaito's father played in the failure of a hostage situation involving a Japanese diplomat who lived in the fictional "Republic of Eldovia." Kaito's soft spot really is his father, and so he couldn't not get involved when he heard about this. Yes, Toa and Eldovia were mentioned throughout Season 11. They are fictitious countries supposedly located in Asia which have political and business dealings (often secret and controversial) with the Japanese government. Kaito's father seems to be quite involved with them, too.

I wonder who was responsible for the kidnapping of Kaito's father? The guy who pretended to be the driver sounded like the cult leader, to me at least. Hmm. I wonder if it was him? This guy seems to have knowledge of top-secret information involving Toa/Eldovia as well as Kaito's father. Could he be holding some sort of a grudge against Kaito's father?

Speaking of Kaito's father, he is truly insufferable. Watching him tear up the piece of paper (perhaps the suicide note implicating Kaito's father in the murder of the hostage years before) reminded me of why I couldn't stand him. Onoda was just as politically savvy, but he was rather the charmer—even though Ukyo saw right through him. Not Kaito's father. He seems like quite the elitist and sneers down at everybody, even Mr. Pill Eater. The only person he seemed to respect was Ukyo. I wonder if Kaito-Dad will survive? I was always surprised that they killed Onoda off mid-season, so I'm expecting pretty much anything to happen.

Interesting dynamic between Itami & Crew. Itami's partner got promoted, leaving Itami and Serizawa behind. This has left Itami in an awkward position. He constantly was using the polite style of speech when talking to his former partner, setting a sort of psychological distance (since they used to speak in casual speech before) and also referring to him as "Sir" or by his title (Section Chief). I hope their friendship will be saved. Perhaps it'll be awkward for Itami at first, but I'm really hoping we can continue to see the fun dynamic between "Itami & Crew."

Speaking of Itami, he's really starting to morph into Kameyama, isn't he? With each coming season, Itami starts to dislike the world of secret wheelings and dealings more and more.

Glad to see Mr. Contact Lenses and Ms. BL again. We haven't seen Mr. Forensics Guy yet, but I'm sure we'll see him pop up in Part 2.

This is certainly an interesting case and a promising start to the new season! Can't wait for Part 2 of Episode 1 next Thursday. This will be a three-parter, I believe.

I don't think we'll be getting any repeated scenes for the 3rd part. We certainly didn't get any for the 2nd part. I guess for once UTB has managed to split it equally, unlike in the past. Good thing.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒12 (Partners 12)

<EPISODE 1> (PART 2)

Very exciting Part 2! Usually when we get these three part episodes, Part 2 is where the bulk of the mystery is investigated. That's happening here, but this is still very interesting, keeping my attention the entire time. The villain this time around is a very good actor. He's able to play the "mysterious" persona well, and I think he's quite good at that evil smile/laugh thing he has going on. I wonder what the truth is behind him? Is there a reason why he's so obsessed with Kaito's dad and revealing the Eldovia scandal?

I was thinking he is somehow related to the man whose life was lost during the hostage incident—which would make sense now that he has taken Kaito's dad hostage himself. That being said, didn't we already meet the son/family of the hostage victim? I don't think the son mentioned that he had any brothers, so who could this guy be? Perhaps he's some kind of relative, or friend of a relative. It'll be interesting to get the real deal on him, especially since we know so little.

I'm so happy the entire cast is back. This time, we saw Mr. Forensics Guy. Hope he will continue to play a major role this season like he always has. Same with the other characters. Everyone contributes to the show like a piece of a puzzle, and I feel like something will always be missing if one of them is removed or replaced. The fun cast is one of the reasons why I've always liked Partners.

My favorite moment was when Ukyo barged in (LOL) to the mystery guy's apartment, in order to ascertain if Kaito's dad was being housed there. He pretended like he was looking for an old friend named Kameyama Kaoru whom he had met in New York. He then proceeded to talk what seemed like a new hybrid language—a mix of English and Japanese. I love these Ukyo moments. They are so funny to watch. Plus, the actor seems very comfortable doing it, as if he temporarily morphs into a "sillier" version of Ukyo. It was also great because of the Kame reference! I hate when dramas or TV shows write a character out and then we never hear of them again, so it is a relief to see Partners occasionally bring up Kame (and Kanbe).

I wonder if this traumatic experience will change Kaito-Dad at all? Will he come out a little humbler, a little more eager to patch things up with his son? Something tells me that this won't change him, and that he stands by what he has done completely. One can hope, though!

The conclusion (Part 3) airs next Thursday. Can't wait!

Me too, Dunedan! I'm still waiting for the day when Kame makes a cameo appearance. He has been my favorite out of all of Ukyo's partners.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒12 (Partners 12)

A change I see in Ukyo is that they are making him a little bit more eccentric than he has been. For years, he was the serious, very intelligent, all-together, refined gentleman. He still is for the most part, but what's been added are some kinky little mannerisms that would not have been seen in years' past. Even at the end of the opening credits, the expression on Ukyo's face is one that seems either bewildered or somewhat off his rocker.

It was surprising to see that Itami's partner is now his boss. Nothing stays the same, though, and this is something that would really happen at work. It's not easy to go from one of the group to being their leader. The relationships cannot remain the same as they used to be. Itami seemed awfully bitter or disappointed, though. I'd guess Itami's actually more upset about his own lack of advancement, watching his partner pass him up. The promoted partner makes a good object to vent resentments on. Unfortunately, the partner is directly over his old co-workers. They should have moved him to another group, I would think.

Ukyo's Car - After all this time, have I finally found it? emoticon How about the Nissan Figaro?

Nchristi, I think you've found it! Yay! Now we finally know Ukyo's car, after all this time. It fits him so well, doesn't it? We didn't see it too often when Kanbe was around, since he would drive his sports car around, but now that Kanbe is out of the picture, we get to see the Nissan Figaro more often! emoticon

I was disappointed that they are making Itami report to his former partner, too. I really enjoyed the dynamic of "The Three Stooges" but I feel that things will be different now that one of the stooges has become the boss! I hope Itami will be able to sort his feelings and frustrations out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be able to reconcile and make a funny trio like they were before—even if the dynamic is slightly different.

It's interesting to see how the writers will change Ukyo. I like that the writers always change things around here and there. It keeps things fresh and new, all while retaining the main elements of the general story and dynamic.
