She was safe! When the spy approached her, he didn't intend to harm her. He just wanted to give her the farewell letter so that she could deliver it to the clerk (through Kaito).

Re: Partners Withdrawls

HEY Everybody, long time no talk!!

I wish that in the year since I left LA and ventured East into the Frozen Tundra of Central New Jersey, (Yes, I survived, but I've been dying for a Beef Bowl or decent Tempura lunch around here for so long it's maddening) I had been able to watch the last two seasons of our beloved cop drama. Sadly, my plans to have the Slingbox I left behind to stream UTB back to me failed miserably when the HDTV Box I bought melted down three days after I left home. Oh well lesson learned, never buy a box that was less than $30 for such an important task.

I'm curious, and was wondering this, given I've only had your recaps to stay up with the last two seasons, what was the consensus over Kanbe's departure back to the "Elites" and did you all think that, given the way things had changed at the beginning of that final season with him, did we get it right in foreshadowing it, and has Kaito truly resurrected the spirit of Kameyama this past season?

Also, was there any mention of the Earthquake and Tsunami in the seasons after it happened? I didn't see anyone mention that in some of the recaps. Given the enormity of the incident, you would think that would have played a role in at least one episode, right?

Re: J-Drama: 相棒11 (Partners 11)

Great to hear back from you, AntonSolo! I'm so sorry you're not able to view UTB out there on the East Coast. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be. Well, if it's helpful, you still have our comments/recaps over here to hold you over until UTB decides to go national with their broadcasting. I'm sure the entire country would love their programming!

Nope, nothing at all about the earthquake or tsunami. I thought they would mention it, but so far, we haven't heard a thing about it. Come to think of it, none of the dramas we've seen lately have really brought it up, either. I guess it's still too painful and the producers probably think that viewers want to escape the reality of the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster instead of seeing it brought up on TV.

As for your other questions, I think we were right on in our speculation about Kanbe's departure. I think more of our comments are available at the end of the Season 10 thread. However, he and Ukyo parted surprisingly amicably—with their last scene consisting of Kanbe offering Ukyo a ride home (this is after a few months have passed and Kanbe is now settled in his new job.) Ukyo politely refuses, so we see Ukyo walking juxtaposed against a visual of Kanbe speeding off in his sports car.

Kanbe and Ukyo seem to be in touch—he was never shown in Season 11, but Ukyo talked about calling him to get his help during one of the tougher cases. So, they still seem to keep in touch and are on cordial terms. However, Ukyo doesn't seem to get that warm look in his eyes when Kanbe's name is brought up—he always seemed to look melancholy when he heard Kameyama's name, as if he missed his friendship more than his professional relationship with him.

As for Kaito, he's not a resurrection of Kame, but there are certainly many similarities. One striking imilarity is that they both have this fierce sense of "what's right" and have zero tolerance for political maneuvering and the like. Kanbe was able to have a more objective view of "politics." Kaito was less loyal towards Ukyo in the beginning, but by the end of Season 11, I feel like we have a real partnership here.

Talking about this drama makes me miss it all the more!

Image class blockquote On March 14 at 6:05 pm, popular veteran actor Utsui Ken passed away at the age of 82, due to chronic respiratory failure.

To follow the deceased' wishes, Utsui's funeral will be held only for his family and relatives, but there is a plan for the farewell meeting at a later date.

Utsui had appeared not only in movies, but also in many popular dramas, such as "Wataru Seken wa Onibakari", "Aibou"[, and "Gokusen", and had been active as an actor for a very long time.

Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Have we see him on Aibou before?

RIP Utsui Ken

I remember this actor well—he was an excellent veteran actor and we have seen him on various dramas over the years. May he rest in peace.
