Re: J-Drama: 相棒11 (Partners 11)

<EPISODE 15>

OMG, what an episode! I really enjoyed this one a lot. It was interesting that the person we were lead to believe was the culprit (the teacher) was actually innocent of planting the bomb. Actually, none of the 'suspects' who were present at the reunion were responsible - the reason the bomb was planted had nothing at all to do with the incident from 40 years before. Great writing, as usual. Season 11 has been really unpredictable with these cases, and I think the writers have really demonstrated to us that they can keep the characters' story lines and the individual cases themselves interesting, fresh, and new.

I think I enjoyed this one so much because of the actor who was playing the teacher. We saw him in the Ryoma Taiga from a few years back, where he played the master puppeteer - the Old Lord Yodo - who loved his sake. It's been a while since we've seen him in a drama, so I was glad to see him here.

My favorite scene in the whole drama was when Ukyo discovered that the mystery 'present' had a bomb in it. He made this funny expression and then calmly went about directing Kaito to call the bomb squad and asking everyone else to evacuate. LOL! His face during that moment was hilarious. Another priceless Ukyo moment!

What a surprise that the bomb had nothing at all to do with the incident from 40 years ago. It was actually planted by the waitress from the restaurant, who was taking revenge on one of the students for lying to her about leaving his wife for her. She wasted five years of her life on this man, and I'm sure she dealt with the emotional and psychological pain of being lied to. What's ironic is that she was the one who suggested the reunion - it was a good chance for her to get her ultimate revenge on the man who had lied to her. What she didn't know was that in the process of getting her revenge, she was also creating an opportunity for the incident from 40 years ago to be discussed by all the involved parties.

How ironic that both the teacher and the students had been blaming themselves for the past 40 years over the female teacher's death. The students thought they had been the ones to lead the woman to her death - by playing a prank on her, leading her to accidentally tripping off the cliff and falling to her death below. The teacher blamed himself for never apologizing to the female teacher, his ex-girlfriend who had left him after being forced by her family to marry another man. He thought she was taking a picture of a flower he had given her on their first date - before losing her step and tripping off the cliff. The same result, but two different scenarios. The teacher and the students had all been blaming themselves for her death, without knowing the real truth.

At the end of the day, I guess we still don't know what lead the female teacher to her death. For all we know, she could have really tripped and fell when she went to find the 'missing student' who wasn't really missing. Or, maybe she did really die while trying to get a good picture of the flower for her former love. Nobody was there to witness the truth. However, I guess both parties needed this reunion to sort out their feelings of guilt and shame that had been haunting them for almost half a century. Life can be quite ironic sometimes...

I'm just relieved that the elderly teacher wasn't responsible for the bomb. I didn't want him to be made out to be a criminal, so it was a relief that he (nor any of his students) would be charged with any crimes.

Loved the bit at the end with Kaito asking Ms. BL about Ukyo's secrets. LOL! Come to think of it, we haven't seen Ukyo's apartment, have we? Maybe once in an early season, but I can't remember. I think I'd like to join Kaito in his investigation of Ukyo's apartment. What kinds of secrets could we find in there? LOL!

Really enjoyed this one. I think it was a combination of the unique story as well as the actor who portrayed the teacher. He's really an excellent actor.

On to Episode 16 next week! I'm looking forward to it. This season has been great so far.

posticon UPDATE ABOUT SEASON FINALE

Just a quick note about the final episode of Partners 11, which UTB is going to air as part of their special New Years programming.

I thought UTB was going to break the final episode of Partners 11 up and air it in 3 parts, but I was wrong! This time, we'll be seeing the finale in one piece!

It turns out that UTB is actually going to air the season finale of Partners 11 in one piece—all two and a half hours of it! It'll air on Thursday, January 2nd, from 9:00p until 11:30p. Then, they will also be airing air two encore showings of the finale on Friday—once at 12:00p and also at 6:30p. That way, if anybody misses the original showing, they'll have two chances to catch it again on Friday.

It'll be nice to see the final episode of Partners aired in one piece for once.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒11 (Partners 11)

A quick note:

The encore airing of Partners 10 on Tuesday nights will be drawing to a close soon. UTB will show an encore of Partners 11 starting Tuesday, December 24th. So, if you missed any episodes this season, or have a favorite you'd like to rewatch, now is a good chance!

As for the regular Thursday night airing, we have just a few weeks left. UTB will be airing the final episode in one piece as part of their New Years' programming.

Partners: The Movie III

Coolness at Asian Wiki. With an April release date, evidently after Partners 12 has finished. The fun part is that Ukyo and Kaito are given their assignment (at the request of Kaito's dad) by ex-Partner Kanbe.

Can UTB be talked into acquiring this?

Re: J-Drama: 相棒11 (Partners 11)

<EPISODE 16>

I know I keep saying this every week, but I'm really impressed with what the writers have done for Season 11. Each episode keeps me glued to the screen for the entire hour, and I'm often surprised that the episode has already finished! It'll be a while before we see Season 12 here, but I hope it'll be as great as Season 11 was.

I missed seeing Ms. BL in this one. I hope she and Kaito's girlfriend can become closer friend. I loved when the show included Miwako's friendship with Ms. Ex-Ukyo as one of the main story lines. I think the show has lacked that fun "husbands v. wives" aspect in recent seasons, so it'll be fun to see something like that again.

I got a kick out of how Ukyo made Kaito run all that distance! Two hours!? That's no easy feat. But what made me crack up even more was his reaction when Kaito came back. It was as if he didn't care at all that the man just ran for two hours straight. LOL!

Though Director Takagi was the murder "victim" he was really a piece of work. The fact that he was blackmailing his athletes by "doping" them and then keeping their blood for decades (so that he could blackmail them if they dare go against him) was disgusting. He ruined people's careers and he was going to keep on doing that with future athletes. No matter everybody was fed up with him. I agree with Ukyo when he told the women that they could have solved this another way (without committing murder) but I suppose there had been decades of resentment and anxiety that contributed to their decision.

What will the marathon runner go to jail for? Distracting the investigation? Covering up for a murderer? Sometimes I wish we would find out more about what happens after U&Kaito turn in the criminals to the prosecuting officers. Do they all get convicted and have to serve time? Are there any that get off the hook? I'm curious sometimes, especially when the person didn't actually commit murder and was just involved in the mess.

I hope the two women involved can live vicariously through the high schooler, who is still going to try hard to become a professional athlete. At least she wouldn't be involved in Takagi's corruption and still has a chance at making it in the professional world.

Can't believe we are almost done with the eleventh season of Partners. Episode 17 airs next week.

Ostadan, that third Partners movie sounds very intriguing—especially Kanbe will be making a cameo appearance. (Maybe he'll make a cameo appearance on Season 12, as well?) I wish we could see the movies on UTB, even though they've never aired them before. Never say never!

posticon Re: J-Drama: 相棒11 (Partners 11)

For the regular Thursday night airing of Partners 11, here is what the schedule looks like for the next few weeks:

Thursday, 12/12 - Episode 17

Thursday, 12/19 - Episode 18

Thursday, 12/26 - NO NEW EPISODE
(instead, the LA RAMEN WARS special will be aired at 9:00p)

Thursday, 1/2 - FINAL EPISODE (#19)
(will be aired in one piece, from 9:00p - 11:30)
** there will be two encore airings on Friday, 1/3: one at 12:00p and another at 6:30p

UTB wants to air the final episode in one piece as part of their New Years' programming, so in order to account for that, they'll be airing the LA RAMEN WARS special in Partners 11's place for one night (Thursday, 12/26).

I'm very curious what UTB will air after Partners 11 finishes. Season 12 just finished filming and so it'll be a while before we see it here on UTB. This Thursday night time slot has been synonymous with Partners for years now, so I'm very curious if UTB will replace it with another drama, or just regular NHK World programming. We shall find out soon...

Re:

And another Partners(ish) movie we haven't seen – Aibo X Day – figured into tonight's episode. It was the case on which Itami and cyber investigator Iwatsuki collaborated last spring. The interplay between Itami, Iwatsuki, and the Special Missions Unit made for a lot of fun in a rather interesting case. And of course, the sudden burst of bilingual dialogue only added to the fun for us Yanks. It did seem, though, that Mizutani, playing Ukyo, was reading from a phonetic transcript and does not actually speak any English at all.
