LAUREL AND HARDY
I always loved the Laurel and Hardy films they did with Hal Roach. They were always funny and very inventive and never were too long. The full length movies they were made to do later on were never quite the same. I just found one of the early ones from 1931. I think the title is 'Les Carrottieres' and there were English subtitles so I watched and read and suddenly I realised that I recognized Hardy's voice. They were both speaking in French, phonetic style....reading from cue cards. It was so funny even tho it was meant to be quite serious for a French audience. It was not the funniest film they have made but it was quite unusual to hear them speaking French. apparently they also made some films speaking Spanish. The films were made one after the other with them both reading the other language from cards as needed. Dubbing was not perfected in those times so they had to make the complete scenes over at least twice
I think Stan Laurel was quite a genius when he was inventing some of the gags, especially with cars that had to be precisely sawn into two halves. Remember that??? also I remember the way they heaved a large piano up flights of outside stairs. I think they finally reached the top and inadvertently let go. I always remember the chase down the stairs to catch the piano before it ran out into the road. Laurel invented almost all of the gags I think.

Re: LAUREL AND HARDY
My late grandfather used to love all of the Laurel and Hardy movies. I've watched quite a few of them with him throughout the years. (He was also a big fan of Abbot & Costello, as well as The Three Stooges.)
