Well I enjoyed what I had a chance to see last night, I hope it recorded well I still haven't checked it yet, I am very much looking forward to learning the hairdressers family dynamic I guessing he comes from of family of very well to do and ultra old fashion people who had expected him to be a doctor but now expect him to at the very least marry a doctor and raise good little doctor children to follow in their doctor grand fathers footsteps and run the namesake med. clinic.

What I don't get is if the hairdresser was such a wild child growing up, and had bailed on all his opportunities to live his own life, WHAT the heck is he doing living at home again. Other then to use dad's connections to score dates with student doctors (99 dates!!) just to mock them? And then tell them to use his hair salon to look better! Real class act that guy.

Anyone know why "Lee Sunsin" (the main character's name) sparks ridicule from others?
I'm sure it must be a Korean translation or something but hope someone can fill me in

Yes, we just saw Ep. 1 last night (Sunday, April 21). class blockquote scorp09 wrote:

Lee Soon Shin (frequently spelled as Yi Sun Shin) is the name of So. Korea's national hero, a famous naval general who defeated the Japanese during the 1500s. He was a brilliant, genius tactician. The statue we saw IU standing before in that large square in Seoul, was of Lee Soon Shin the war hero.

Thus, when she interviewed before those two execs, they laughed and one said maybe she should become a marine.

As for episode 1, it was okay for an opening. A little too Cinderella-ish, with Granny and her older stepsister treating Soon Shin like trash. Even her adoptive mother (who loves her) forgot the girl's birthday, while she fussed over the oldest daughter's return from Hong Kong. (What was with her little girl telling Sun Shin not to touch her, as though she had the plague or something?)

We found out last night that Soon Shin was adopted as an infant/small child. (Golly gee, I wonder from whom she got her "acting gene"? And what secret is Soon Shin's adoptive father carrying around, the way Shin Joon-Ho (hair salon/entertainment director) was staring at him from across the street?

Joon-Ho apparently has not only the hair salon but is the head of the big time entertainment group. Ep. 1 ends with the fake Shin Joon-Ho (the con artist) meeting with Soon Shin and her mother, while the real Shin Joon-Ho is entering the same restaurant.

Let the fireworks begin.

Thanks for the explanation Nchristi... Totally agree with Tomcat regarding Joon Hobson not a class act.
In the 1st episode he manages to get Sunshin fired from her job, he also puts down his date by critiquing her hairstyle.
I hope he gets his later but with this being Kdrama, he'll probably find a way to end up with Sunshin

Re:

Ah finally this show has started so I can talk about this show also the drama drama Seyoung is finally over. emoticon

So are you on episode 2 over there or was the last eps shown over there the first one. I am just asking so that I don't reveal any spoilers accidently.
I do want to mention something but without being sure am refraining myself.

So far the show is quite entertaining though at times it can be extremely predictable as well.

Can someone tell me who the hair saloon guy is I must have missed him in the introduction of the characters. emoticon

Jun Ho is an amusing character. Seems to be a klutz at times. Especially when it comes to his Ex. They are certainly some funny moments. The same can be said at times when he interacts with IU. Firing IU for her accident seemed a bit harsh to me. It was not like she did it on purpose. Granted the mistake was equally on both parties and they both should have been more careful where they walked and looked. If it happened to me I would have forgiven the party but would have given a slight warning. Granted such a thing has never happened to me and I guess it would also depend on my mood that day. So perhaps he was having a bad day when this happened to him but so far judging from what we saw of his character earlier I doubt that.

In regards to him living with his family. I think he moved away to show that he could be successful on his own and succeeded at that point. He runs his own entertainment agency. I doubt that he can't afford his own place now. Perhaps while he now lives with his family he is not quite so dependent on them, ie he gets free food and lodging but apart from that he does everything on his own (buys his own stuff etc...). Plus I suspect it may have something to do with his mother who may have convinced the dad to let the son move back in with them. Also now she could claim that the dad wouldn't have to worry about the son leeching of him (not that he would have.)

The actress who plays the big older actress seems familiar is she the same one who was in Cinderella's Step Sister as the mother?

I really don't like the father setting up his son on blind dates. There are some things that I consider personal and in that regards I feel that arranged marriages and blind dates (by parents atleast) should be avoided. Listen to the child and consider their opinions as well before you proceed. Granted the child may make mistakes and even make a few bad choices but you as the adult should sit down and discuss these points with the child and convince them why it is so. The dad seems way to cold I am surprised the wife can even put up with him. No wonder the son wanted to move away from home.

I certainly felt sorry for IU when EVERYONE forgot about her birthday. Seriously that was sad. They could have a double party to celebrate her sister returning from Hong Kong. (In my family we have two people birthday on the same day and another who have a one day difference so we celebrate them together and it also saves on the expenses as well emoticon also we all enjoy ourselves equally)
The niece may have moved away from IU like that perhaps because she didn't recognize her aunt. They were away for a few years and that may have made a difference though highly unlikely. But we should give the kid some doubt.
It does seem suspicious that the Sister and daughter have returned without the husband. I also suspect that a divorce may be followed if it hasn't already. (My husband Got a family the Eldest sister did something similar so perhaps I may not be of the mark).

One thing I don't seem to get is how IU thinks that she is not beautiful and seems to have an inferiority complex. Granted that she is no Helen of Troy that someone will sail a 100 ships to get her back but by no definition is she ugly in anyway. What world is she been living in or what has she been told her entire life. One certainly feels sorry for her character (atleast I do). emoticon

It was amusing when she was having a bad day and she walks by the Flyer guy who ignores her and passes the flyers to other people (Granted it was not his fault plus what he was advertising certainly didn't require him to do so). IU gets really mad and thinks that he was doing it on purpose and people were ignoring her. So she flares up and when she finds out the reason (the flyer guy did) it certainly doesn't help her mood. Ripe Pickings for a mysterious but shady looking stranger to approach her.
About him in my next post as it pertains the next eps and I don't want any Spoiler warnings breached. emoticon

Well I am of now to watch some other show till we meet again next time.
Also has GU Family Book started airing over there or it wont? Want to discuss that show when it does emoticon

Re: K-Drama: 최고다 이순신 (Lee Soon Shin is the Best)

Have not watched the first episode yet.... More later... Still need to see Seoyeong final ep. first.

SpamKing, per the spoiler benchmark, episode 1 was on Sunday night on our local KBS America affiliate. But those locally watching on KBS World in America saw ep. 2. We are going to once again remind folks, given this ongoing split schedule to follow the benchmark of the local channel as far as spoilers go.

In the entertainment medium, often the leading actors are supposed to be average, within the world of the story, not necessarily what we view as the beauty of the performer... But the viewers want eyecandy regardless, so that is what we get. LOL! This is one of the many reasons a great show like My Name is Kim Sam Soon was such a hit, given it actually portrayed an unusual and more down to earth visual of the character vs Kim Sun Ah's natural potential or vs the usual cute or elegant archetypes of K-Drama - instead, she had a different, more human-like beauty that was more accessible, and rather charming. This too is happening on the flip side in Cheer Up, Mr. Kim where Kim Dong wan isn't presented as the heartthrob he normally is in other contexts.

As for Gu, we still have 10 weeks to go for Horse Doctor to complete its airing. Gu should follow after, just like in the SK schedule order.

Spam King thanks for clearing up what Joon Ho did for a living, the reason I called him a hairdresser was because of the nasty way he treated his blind date. Again as I noted I was more upset over his father's motives for setting him up on all those blind dates with his doctor-students. All he sees Joon Ho as being good for is to carry on the family medical clinic's good(?) name as a sperm donor. Yeah a-lot of luck with that notion.

Re:

Thankyou Super Rookie for the info on what position all of you are. I am glad then that I did not post any information regarding the next episode. emoticon Though we can all imagine what happens next due to the teaser of the next episode unless it was cut out at your end. emoticon

You are welcome TomCat and thankyou for clarifying that you thought Jun Ho was the hair dresser because I got worried and thought that I had missed some character and would have to go back and find out who that was. I agree that what he did was harsh just be thankful that the girl didn't retaliate at him by dunking/pouring a glass of water or any other liquid at him though I am sure such oppurtunites may rise sometime in the near future if he doesn't fix his game up. We all know who that is going to be in the end though emoticon

I also agree with you that what is father did was wrong just to accomplish his own selfish desires that someone in the family inherit is family hospital. It kind of reminds me of a Jap Drama that I once saw (only part of it due to the subs not being complete) I don't remember what it was called but it had a cat named Holmes, anyway there was this family where Holmes ends up staying with and they had this family motto that atleast one member of that family had to be a detective. So in this case the doctor either wants a doctor in the family from his end and if not then via marriage.

I still think the concept of blind dates or arranged marriages are wrong. I mean I can accept arranged marriages but I would expect that the parents and child should sit down and discuss why this marriage would suit their child and vice versa. For instance if they are getting the child married just because it would improve their social standings or give them some sort of advantage in power etc... then it is wrong but if lets say the other partner brings out the balance needed to improve their child or can look after each other without worries then I can accept that marriage but their child should be willing to marry said party.
Guess the doctor should watch Star Wars and Quote Obi Wan when he is referring about Leia when speaking with Master Yoda.

Wow I am surprised I just wanted to thankyou for the responses any yet this post grew to a life of its own. LOL emoticon
Anyway take care. Hope to hear from all of you soon
