Re: K-Drama: 강력반 (Detectives In Trouble)

I watched this week's premiere and second episode. A bit of a mixed bag, but I generally liked it, especially the first episode. The second episode at times felt a bit draggy for me though and not as exciting as the first.

I rather enjoyed the whole style of the series, with the music and production feeling like it borrows a lot from J-Drama/Anime style. The opening in particular reminded me of a lot of police themed anime.

I do like the pairing of Song Il Gook and Lee Jong Hyuk, both capable of excellent performances. It's a classic character combination one is hot-headed, heroic (SIG) and the other a cold, more-cerebral (LJH). For us guys, the two females... I didn't find either particularly interesting in looks or character - not bad or anything, but kinda just there for me. emoticon

What the heck though... this series has two really fruity looking characters. One of the criminals is just so... out there and then there's... the really FRUITY publisher, Ms. Jo's boss, who is just.... words escape me. I wasn't sure at first if he was a she or something in between. LOL emoticon

Should be interesting to see how this develops, there's potential here.

The pairing of Song Il Gook and Lee Jong Hyuk is like yin and yang...

Lee Jong hyuk is one of my favorites, so I'm dropping by this one. Certainly different--much more realistic than most kdramas.

Hey Hyena, where you been?

Lee Jong Hyuk is one of my favorites too. I'm liking this one so far. Actually the rest of the cast is holding up too.

Re: K-Drama: 강력반 (Detectives In Trouble)

Hey, smoochie, were your ears ringing? I was talking about you recently. I have had a lot of stuff happen in the past two months that sorta occupied my attention. Redid two bathrooms, had to deal with several dog fights, including a broken leg on one dog and stitches for me (not a bite, think I caught my hand on the dog's collar catch), emergency room twice, and then surgery. All better now. The surgeon cleared me today. Dog still wearing a splint, though. Comes off this weekend.

So I missed the beginning of this one and a couple others that seemed interesting to me (Thornbirds, Midas). I'm gonna have to catch up. I've been watching DVDs from my extensive collection! I tried to find the kdramas on TV while I was in the hospital, but the clicker defeated me!

Lee Jong hyuk has been playing the "bad" guy in the last several that have aired in LA. I remember him as an inept rebel in the movie Radio Dayz (I loved him in that). And then that one about the detectives (Powerful Opponents, with Chae Rim)--he about broke my heart in that one. Unlike many of you, I just couldn't watch Chuno--I tried several times, but the direction defeated me every time.

Re: K-Drama: 강력반 (Detectives In Trouble)

I've been a month behind on this drama as I've been a bit busy lately. I finally caught up over the last few days with several marathons on my DVR.

So far I'm rather enjoying the different nature of this series. It hasn't been always the most consistent or exciting, but the two or three episode sub-arc of the story reminds me more of western or japanese drama story - in that sense it feels a little more episodic than other K-Dramas. It's also interesting to watch something that isn't just another romantic comedy series.

I didn't really like this week's arc, with the previous chief's friend and Jo's father arc as much as the previous two with the highschool "mean" girls and the exciting countdown kidnapping arc.

Right now it looks like the big shoe to drop will be the current chief, Jung Il Do's, true story behind that accident that affected Park's family (daughter's death) years ago. Looking forward to see what happens with this main storyline.

Re: K-Drama: 강력반 (Detectives In Trouble)

Just finished the final episode that aired here locally a few days ago.

On the whole I found it to be an okay series, but one that'll likely be forgotten by time. A number of episodes were really hit or miss, some better than others. As I said before, I really liked the concept and theme of this series, it reminds me of J-Drama, Anime and more westernized dramas; however, ultimately some of the characterizations kind of felt flat. I didn't find a great climax as the story concluded and the character development felt thin and lacking. I don't think it helped when that female cop got the axe and was replaced, I didn't find that to have helped the dynamics of the station co-workers.

Song Il Gook and Lee Jong Hyuk are excellent actors, but through the series, I didn't find the writing or the scenes capable of extracting anything too noteworthy from either actor. Nothing bad by any means, but nothing notable either.

Having said that, I did enjoy the last half an hour of the final episode where the revelations came out and the surprise twist at the end where it was revealed both SIG and LJH's character teamed up for justice.
