Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

I was so sure that Ujin's mother would welcome Teach with open arms and love her like her own daughter... for her son's sake. How stupid am I??? She can't wait to 'train' her new daughter in law. I'm sure Teach will cower, bow and obey with fear .... because that's who she is.

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

Ep 59 (Sat)

The Kims return from the wedding, Mom is especially exhausted and in pain. They put her to bed, though she fights against it.

Deleted... class ul Ujin‛s parents return from the wedding. Hwayeong seems more than tired—depressed? Dad is happy. Assumes he is returning back upstairs? But is quickly shot down. Hwayeong gets up and retires to her room.Ujin & Yunhui on their honeymoon, driving by the sea, laughing and jubilant. They drive onto the wide beach, run around chasing each other.

The 3 sons eat alone, the eldest wondering what their parents are doing. The little one says they are getting along better lately... they‛re in the den together and it's quiet. In the den, Ki-chang is still playing slavemaster, while Yeonghui is losing herself in the romantic scenes she‛s writing about.

Back at the Kims, Mom can‛t come to eat... too exhausted and no appetite. It seems like talking has become a major effort for her. Dad is very concerned.

Dark at the beach, Ujin shoots off fireworks, much to the delight of Yunhui. They talk about their pasts a little. The first time she saw fireworks was with her father when she about 7 years old. What was Ujin doing at that age? He was dressed in a suit, holding his housekeeper‛s hand as they watched his mother on the movie set. He was a little showpiece for his mother, it seems. They return to their hotel suite. She calls her Dad and is worried about Mom. (They don‛t call his parents.) Outside on the balcony, they talk about marriage. She‛s happiest about now being a real part of her Dad‛s family. He is happy about growing old together. They cuddle as they talk.

Next morning at the Kims, Rani has got into bed with her parents and awakened Hyejin. Rani has her own room now, yet still comes to sleep with her parents. Hyejin has overslept, runs downstairs to make breakfast only to find Mom already cooking. Dad comes in and yells violently at his wife for working instead of resting. She doesn‛t understand, tired that he treats her as a "patient." He was so loud that both Donghun and Granny come running. Dad doesn‛t say why he is acting this way and goes to his room so Mom and Granny don‛t find out the truth of Mom‛s condition.

At the hospital, Dad sits with head hung low, about to meet with the doctor about the results of his wife's latest tests. There are suspicious areas in her lungs and the doctor is worried the malignancy will spread to her other lung and elsewhere. Dad asks if Doctor is saying she has only a limited amount of time to live? Doctor says ‛No,‛ but this is an aggressive, high-risk cancer. Usually, no new indications for 5 years means a patient is cancer free. The doctor is giving Dad a statistical answer. If Mom reaches 3 years, she will be doing good.

Dad returns home, opening the gate and seeing Mom busy tending her flowers, talking to them and full of joy at seeing the beautiful blooms. Later in the evening, Dad sits outside in the dark, his heart heavy. Inside, Mom is wiping down the floors. Hyejin tries to stop her, but Mom resists once again, trying to live her ‛normal‛ life.

Deleted... class ul Back at the apartment it is morning and Yeonghui has been at her computer all night, Ki-chang catnapping in a chair. With great dark circles around her eyes, she finishes the chapter(s). Both are elated that the task is accomplished. In the front room, the boys are sitting at the table, waiting for someone to make their breakfast. Yeonghui runs out and begins to make rice... it seems the boys are late? They yell at her. She collapses onto the floor, dropping the rice all over. Ki-chang calls the assistant director, the director getting furious and wanting the phone. They‛re all upset about something Ki-chang is saying, while he is getting mad at them, too.

Back in the kitchen, Yeonghui is trembling while she‛s trying to put the rice into the cooker. She full out collapses onto the floor... unconscious. The little boy runs into the den crying, telling Ki-chang that Mom has collapsed. Ki-chang yells and cries (like a k-drama scene).
Back at the honeymoon, Yunhui is still sleeping while Ujin has laid out a nice breakfast for them on the deck. He awakens her. She is all embarrassed and can‛t make eye contact or talk to him. On the deck eating, she‛s pouty, whiny, and childish. He gives her orange juice then decides to give her milk. She drinks it like a small child, leaving a milk mustache on her lip. He laughs and puts food on her plate in an affectionate gesture. She loosens up and laughs a little.

Hwayeong has redecorated Ujin‛s room into a ‛honeymoon‛ room. Downstairs, Dad is wondering what‛s going on. Then he gets angry that Hwayeong has done all that for Ujin but she won‛t even let Dad move back upstairs. Hwayeong looks at him, then thinks out loud about having the workers return and put a door at the top of the stairs to the basement. Dad is really upset.

Next, Hwayeong talks with the housekeeper, wanting her to change out all the dishes to a set that requires a lot of hand care and wiping. The housekeeper is upset because these dishes are labor intensive. Hwayeong tells her not to worry about it—she is using these to train Yunhui. Hwayeong instructs the housekeeper not to help Yunhui or interfere in any way with how Hwayeong ‛trains‛ her new DIL.

At the school, Dad Kim sits outside on a bench, still in a down mood. One of his fellow staff members comes by and says something about Dad‛s 40 years expiring soon and time for him to retire. Dad is surprised. He has never thought about retirement, nor counted the years. His focus has always been on his joy of teaching and helping the students.

That evening at home, Granny hears Rani crying and arguing with Hyejin. Rani is throwing a fit, insisting that she take over Yunhui‛s empty bedroom. Hyejin is not about to give in to Rani‛s demand. Rani already has her own room and Yunhui‛s will be needed for when adults come to visit and stay overnight. Rani keeps on with her tantrum. Donghun comes in but for once does not coddle his daughter. Hyejin carries her off to her own room, while both Granny and Donghun tell her to stop crying!

Tired of all the drama, Granny goes outside for some fresh air. She discovers Dad sitting alone in the yard, deep in worry. As they talk, Granny seems to be getting the picture about her DIL. Inside, confined to her room, Mom is knitting, complaining to herself. Then Rani comes out crying to Granny, who tells her to knock it off. Granny is now upset about Mom. She tells Rani to get on her back, and she walks her back and forth on the lawn, singing a lullaby to get Rani to fall asleep—and to ease her own burdened heart.

Ki-chang meets the director in a restaurant. The poor director is all beat up looking from Ki-chang‛s previous beating (black eye, bloodied lip, etc.). At home, the boys are crying as Yeonghui is rigged up with an IV and still remains unconscious. She looks like a corpse.

Ki-chang and the Director argue about the life of a writer, that they must work around the clock, sacrifice themselves in many uncomfortable ways to get the script in on time. Further, Director is going to fire Yeonghui. What?! Ki-chang can‛t take that idea after both he and Yeonghui have worked so hard and long on the chapters. Okay, then! Turn in a good script! Ki-chang is spurred on by the challenge.

Ki-chang returns home to his sons crying and worried about their mother. They all march in and look at her in the bed. No response. Later that night, the two younger sons sneak out of their room and listen at the den door. What is Dad doing in there? They crack open the door and see their dad writing on the white board. Then he goes to the computer. Yeonghui‛s flower headband is on the top of the monitor. He sees it, puts it on. Voilé! The magic headband. Ki-chang puts it on and his fingers fly furiously across the keyboard.

Fadeout...

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

Since when did a child get some smacking and then told to get on the back so hat she could get piggy ride up for a bath? I thought that was the most ridiculous thing ever. Why can't rani take Teach's room? She's becoming so whiny and I think the writer wants to drive that as issue for Dad to take mom to a nice place. Also, if Grandma feels so bad about Mom being sick and having had to work for the last 40 years taking care of family, then why won't she help Hyejin with the cooking? Silly silly emoticon.

The scene between Teach and Ujin was alright. The "morning after" scene was kinda cute but still far from being the best portrayed. The best portrayed in my opinion is between Lee Taeran and her hubby from Yellow handkerchief.

Sorry for the rambling emoticon

I think Teacher Dad missed it when the doctor told him not to stress out his wife. First, he screamed at her to get out of the kitchen, now he is taking her away from her home and family and beloved flowers. All have been her life for 40 years.
And what is Granny up to?. . .she has a plan? Was she scanning the want ads? She sure is a good actor, though. It sounded like her voice genuinely cracked in the scene when she was worrying about her ill daughter-in-law.

I also couldn't understand why Granny sat on her butt while Hyejin did all the work. Granny is granny but she isn't ill or an invalid and should have been happy to help out.

Next weekend will end this misery. Previews show Ujin mom really giving it to Teach and Ujin was looking on! He told her family he would make sure she was happy but he is going to stand by and allow Teach to be 'trained' like that? Ujin is the only one I like on this show and now they will make me dislike him too.

Ujin was always so bold about protecting himself from his mother. If she was too hard on him off he went to America (or to Soup guy's house). I think because Ujin's mother finally agreed to the wedding that now he has to pay the price for getting to have Teach.

Since there are only two episodes to go, we won't have to see too much abuse and I'm sure U-mom will come around by the last episode (of course, that may mean 5 years down the line).

Yeah, my wife is too sick to stay with family who can be there for her. Dad was retiring in 3 months anyway so couldn't him and granny help out a bit and everyone wouldn't be separated.

In the end.... totally stupid drama!

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

I look forward to weekend dramas, because they're usually worth watching and well written. Usually. This was not. I saw the wedding last night. Lee Pilmo looked sensational!! Then I had to turn away, because right there next to him was that simpleton he married. What was she doing? Weeping. I can't wait for this to end. Luckily none of my 5 sons brought home a bride like Teach. She wouldn't have lasted 10 minutes. emoticon

KBS screwed up the scheduling. Last Sunday night They lost their signal and I didn't get episode 56. This Saturday night, at the usual air time, a variety show was on instead. Last night, we had jumped from episode 55 to 58. I don't know what goes on there, but it ain't good.

Thankfully, this is almost over.

People cry at weddings amd funerals. In this situation, Yunhui looked forward to a life of orphanages and a bleak adult future when both of her parents died at the same time. She was taken in by a stranger and raised as his daughter in a household already having three children. I am certain that her stepfather encouraged her to go to college and become a teacher. Marriage prospects are not very favorable for orphans. In Korea families marry using the children as implements. She would not have easily found a husband because one of the first things the parents of a suitor ask is "Are both your parents alive?" If she says "No," the courtship s nipped in the bud by the potential in-laws. The child is blamed for not having any parents.

I feel for Hyejin. She is now the lone "maid" in the house and on top of that, she has to work. I would be afraid to be marry in Korea, where the tradition is when you marry, you automatically becomes the caretaker of your husbands parents, especially if he is the eldest or the only son.
Why do they look down on orphans when that is something one could not help. Weird!

I read somewhere that in Korea, if a man falls in love with a divorcée or widow, the existing children may have to go to orphanages before the man will marry the woman. This mirrors what happens in lion prides when a new male lion takes over. He kills all the cubs sired by his vanquished predecessor. The lionesses then go into heat so that the new lion is the father of all the cubs.

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

It was very disturbing to me, too, that Dad Kim is insisting on taking his wife away to the countryside, away from her family. There's no way a woman like her would want to be separated from her family, especially when she's ill and is also suspecting that she is dying. Her extended family has been her entire life and reason for living. Suddenly, she's going to be ecstatically happy alone out in the country? This is so unrealistic—and a plot mistake. Unless it doesn't happen, or they don't stay away for long.

It's really weird that we're seeing a "family drama" that in the end seems to be splitting up the entire family to go off in different directions.

If Donghun & Family move out, Hyejin's work load might be lessened in some ways, but what happens to Rani? She'll end up in some sort of day care because she no longer has grandmothers to take care of her and love her. What about Granny? Is she going off to some senior, assisted living home? That sounds great, doesn't it?!

It seems to me the best solution is for everybody to stay put and hire a full-time, live-in housekeeper to do the work and even help take care of Mom to a limited extent. Dad will be retired soon, and he can spend a lot of time with his wife then. Removing Mom out of town, away from her children and grandchildren, seems like it would be the biggest stress producer of all.

Ujin & Yunhui with his parents. Well, Hwayeong gave Yunhui an ominous warning when she was about to consent to their wedding. "There is a price to pay," she told Yunhui, "will you be able to do it?" Yunhui is about to start paying that price as Hwayeong's DIL.
