nchristi, you too? I've seen a lot of very tough K-Drama fathers, and am often un-phased, but this is one of the few times where the scene's gravity really transferred from the screen to me.

It's amazing how people are dissecting Jin without really too much backstory, and making her into a not too nice person. Even if she might be fasciated by the rich guy, she will end up with her husband and daughter, or the writing won't be typical of Korean shows except for the serious dramas where heroes do die. This is your typical family drama so all will end well.

Pali, we'd all much rather hear your opinions about the drama plots and characters than implications about the thinking processes of your fellow members.

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

I don't know what's going on behind the scenes with this drama, but all episodes on the internet (with or without e-subs) have seemed to stop with Ep. 4. Consequently, I am unable to either watch or summarize the deleted scenes. Unfortunately, I think we are missing some important scenes.

Last night showed another problematic side of Jin. She is so engrossed in the closed world of her own mind that her daughter's falling and crying didn't permeate into her consciousness. Donghun comes out of the restaurant to find Rani crying on the sidewalk, while Jin is hypnotized staring at a photo of her favorite painting. Still not having presence of mind, she utters that the great loneliness portrayed by this artist (her favorite artist) speaks to the great depth of her own loneliness. Donghun stares at her, his mouth practically hanging open, beginning to understand his wife lives in a different world—one in which he and Rani have no part.

Perfect set-up for Sangwu and Jin, the two loneliest souls in the art world, to find their consuming love of a lifetime—each other.

I didn't understand the scene between Jin and her former professor (she brought him his favorite wine). Were they involved with each other before she married Donghun? It seems her friend ended up marrying the old coot, though commenting that Jin had always been his favorite of the group. Jin seemed distressed both in his presence and after she left.

Also, it must have been a deleted scene, but what fight took place between the 'rich and powerful' highschool student and the one who's in love with Yunhui? What a scene where he defends the honor of Yunhui, then outside demands (within earshot of a zillion other students) that she not marry until he can come back for her. I hope he gets over her one of these days. What a mismatch—he deserves someone who is at least as mature as he is!

I enjoy the scenes at the café. Ujin and Chulsu are such opposites. The "odd couple" if ever there was one. Watching their sleep styles tells it all. Ujin is like a baby, completely relaxed, moving freely when he feels like it. Chulsu is measured and controlled in every little thing he does. When he gets in bed, the blankets are just so, he's on his back, and his last gesture is to neatly place his right hand over his left in the middle of his chest.

Nearly the rest of last night was Mute Button Time. I don't think I've ever had to sit through a drama with so much pitiful, annoying crying every week. Yunhui comes home in her typical 3-year old crying state—won't someone please stick a giant binky in her mouth!

Then there is Yeonghui, the would be writer. Ay yay yay! I guess it is funny, but personally I don't appreciate that sort of humor—I'm missing that gene.
Even her own mother turned on her and gave her heck for the false alarm, calling her over in the middle of the night because Mr. Gestapo was 'hitting' her. The best part of that scene was the poster of So Ji Sub! Yeow... very cool poster.

At the same time, Youngho (Dad) has to go to his brother's to save him from being beaten to death by Hwayeong (actress). He was upstairs stealing an egg and kimchi when his wife comes in and sits down, talking on the phone forever while he hides under the table. Downstairs he has left his ramen boiling away, it burns and the automatic sprinklers come on in the whole house. He is outed, she looks like a wet rat and the battle begins.

On to tonight...

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

Last night's episode wasn't my favorite.

A huge chunk at the get-go was quite a series of yelling and screaming at the Kwon and at WooJin's family's house. There were some moments of comedy like with SuBong under the table and when Vice Principal's wife got to the Kwon household, upon realizing why Kwon got mad at the wife (picture in the room, the house in a state of mess) then started to yell at her daughter. LOL Her mother is a very proper wife, but perhaps unlike her daughter, has a loving husband (VP)... I can't say the same of Kwon.

It felt like half the episode was all this yelling and screaming though, and I started to zone out. WooJin's family are the characters I like least in this series, perhaps that's why WJ's hiding from them. LOL

HSW being so affected upon learning HyeJin was touched on early in the episode, continuing from the last. I'm still surprised why he's taking it so heavily on a chance meeting with someone. I've never seen anyone fall in love so fast. emoticon

More details surrounding HyeJin come to the surface with her visiting her brother and past professor. One comment stuck out at me, when the professor said something about the Great HyeJin teaching kids? ... or something to that effect. It kind of reminds me of Yunhui's sister complaining in a previous episode about HJ not doing anything with the family and putting herself in a different plane. She's giving this impression off to others perhaps because of her humble background and family problems ... She's one of the more interesting characters in the drama, since there's a lot of potential for backstory exposition and she has a lot of layers and complexities. That said, my opinion of her character is still mixed. In last night's episode she was ashamed to talk about her husband, referring to him just as someone who works at some company. She also still seems unhappy about her state... either pondering her future now that she's back or perhaps she feels out of place in the family. Its a bit natural for that I suppose on some level, the excitement of Paris is now but a memory, and the real life and real drudgery of what that entails is ahead of her.

I did like two scenes in particular, when Yunhui's step-sister took her out to drink to cheer her up. After the last bar scene where she belittled Yunhui, it was nice to see a bit of sisterly compassion.

Had to laugh when Soup Boy kicked the can and made that pose again! LOL. Although Soup Boy likes Yunhui, I wonder if he and her sister might be a potential pair, since Yunhui is probably destined to be with WooJin.

I found the scene with WooJin drying the fish with an electric fan funny. I wondered if this might be some sort of cultural barrier thing where I'd be far too sensitive to fishy smell like that to do that indoors and stink up the house - but then Soup Boy's sister came out of her room and told WooJin to do it outside, right in line with my thinking!

The ending with Yunhui in a drunken state and falling on WooJin (and maybe soon falling for him?) is so typical K-Drama. emoticon

We were posting at the same time and I didn't get to read your post. Looks like we share similar views on last night's episode.

I agree with your sharp analysis on HyeJin and SW, and both of them living/thinking in a different world. Their minds are always away from the present and what's in front of them.

Sadly, have to agree with you about Yunhui. The constant coming back home crying is too much. Not much of a hook or eye candy in this series for us guys - then again this series is probably not aimed at my demographic. emoticon I hope her character gets more interesting once the romance storyline for her gets going...

LOL I totally forgot to type about the WooJin and Chulsu scene. Chulsu's ritualistic patterns, especially before going to sleep totally crack me up.

I too was lost at what was going on in the High School. Maybe nsheldon, smoochie or others with KBS World can tell us if there was some plot line to this that got edited out on our side.

Do not care for the wife of the school teacher (mother of the 3 boys). When her husband (don't like him either) gets on to her about not taking care of things at home, she screams and cries as if she is the most mistreated person in the world...

There was a fight between the two students. When the smart guy wanted to leave class early again his teacher tried to stop him. Smart guy said some things to teacher that was insulting (totally forgot what it was). Cute student wanted to defend her and they ended up fighting...

Tiresome watching the mother and father going to different houses (of their children) to try to break up fights. I got up and had a snack.

Jin seems uninterested in a life of 'home/family'. She's better suited to Sangwu. They share the same love of art (and I'm sure music, travel, etc.). She has nothing in common w/her husband... absolutely nothing. What woman would go abroad to get her Doctorate and then come home to cook/clean/babysit?

Re: K-Drama: 사랑을 믿어요 (My Love, My Family)

This is the cryingest drama I've seen in a long time, okay ever. No one knows how to weep quietly. All of them are wailing incessantly. Its so annoying.

I thought I would like this one, but I'm disappointed in it so far. I will give it a chance, but I don't know how long I can take it.

The father of Sang Woo is actor, Choi Il Hwa, who should get an award for most evil character in Kdrama. He played Jo Guk's father in City Hall, and if possible, he was even scarier than he is in this one. Such a vicious man in that one. He also played the FIL of Kang Tae San in Daemul, another horrible person. I think his character in City Hall has them all beat though. Then on weekends you can see playing this lovely guy in Hometown Over the Hill and he does that well too.

Nsheldon, Hye Jin and Sang woo haven't even formally met. How are you hooking her up with him so early? Give her poor husband a chance. He paid his dues. He deserves some respect. She may find her life with him better and better, once she gets acclimated. Or maybe not.

I'm hoping that the wardrobe person has a sense of humor and was going for the ridiculous, and didn't think the beret sitting like a pancake on top of the director's head, is how a person in his position should look.

I've been reading comments and just read yours, nchristi. Looks like you and i are on the same page with the irritating crying.

KBS World cut the scene where the mother gets to the daughter's house. I was wondering how she handled it. They jumped to Hye Jin on her way out.

Are we supposed to feel sorry for the daughter, mother of the 3 boys? I find her a total waste and have no sympathy for her, as the mother of 4 boys myself. These kids are basically raising themselves along with the eldest son's guidance. Poor kid has his work cut out for him. If anything I feel more sorry for her husband who isn't even supposed to be a sympathetic character. Imagine coming home to that wreck every night, and then there's the house.

That's one hot picture of Ji Sub though, isn't it? Where's Patiently? Ji Sub is her boyfriend.

I guess I'm not the only one. . .this is one noisy drama! I have the volume turned way down and it's still too irritating. I was thinking maybe it's a sound mixing thing because we've heard people fighting and yelling and crying in other dramas when it hasn't sounded so shrill. Makes me miss the one that just finished, All About Marriage.
