Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)
Thank you, efparri, for the summary, especially with the missed scenes. It's too bad the scene with James calling Piljae and then Piljae rushing to Anna's side "forever" was deleted. I think most of us would have liked to have seen that scene. Like nsheldon, I assumed as such when Piljae, Anna and daughter walked in looking very much like a family, but I still would have enjoyed seeing that moment between Piljae and Anna.

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)
After the dragging of this series on and on at times, I found they did a very good job in wrapping up all the loose ends and drama leading up to the final episode. A bit rushed at times, but I was very satisfied with the ending.
Favorite scenes this week: Mrs. CEO opening up to Anna and the resolution of their issues (both actresses were my favorite characters and actresses/actors of this series!), James' realization of his love for Mrs. CEO and Anna letting go, and the scenes where Donghae and Dojin resolved their rocky relationship at the sea.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series. It had a lot of flaws and to me represented the best and worst of K-Drama, with all the typical cliche's on display, but it had a lot of aspects that have drawn us into K-Drama... I'd say there's a reason that, even in this forum, in some ways it reflected the popularity in Korea as well, with this series getting the most consistent posts on an episode basis. This whole of this series for me, were more than the sum of its parts. When I caught this series initially, I believe at episode 3 (when Donghae and Anna first got to the hotel episode), this was one of the first series after years of not watching K-Dramas (due to lack of access and time)... I was immediately hooked. It didn't have the best writing or production by any means, but there was charm here and interesting characters. It was so fun to watch the overarching theme of this series to develop, Anna and Donghae feeling rejected from the country and all the pain they had to endure - to see that evolution into the series's theme of "Smile Donghae" was especially rewarding to see how he, Anna and all the characters struggled through all the hardships through to the happy ending. This is K-Drama exemplified, an uplifting and feel good story.
I especially enjoyed watching this series and having this forum and the posts in this forum to read through in conjunction through this series. This thread, especially, has made this series all the more rewarding. Good times.

I also assumed the scene with the three rings meant that Anna had also married which would fit with Donghae now officially a Kim and Anna a Cho.Donghae, now general manager, and his remarks about Mrs Kim would indicate that she will now resume her duties at the Hotel, with Dojin probably rejoining her. I enjoyed this series more for the human emotions and characters, than some of the unrealistic situations. I`ve always enjoyed reading your viewpoint Super Rookie, and hope for the best with new Daily Drama.

Family or not it should of been explored!

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)
Ms. CEO was 'forgiven' and the Cho's still look upon her as their daughter. Mr Cho told his wife that any child who does wrong isn't tossed aside (which is what Ms Cho wanted to do) and that they needed to bring her back to the family (something like that)..
Dojin went to prison (along with Mr Gross who was really a good looking guy) for a year.
Saewa... well, she was given full KDR on this one! I had to laugh when she went to the inn where Dojin was and told him he had to come back and pay for his crimes. SHE was the catalyst for all the problems that arose and really only was suspended 3 months. She should have gone to jail over that kimchi home shopping thing..

Thanks. That's a great point about the human emotions and characters, and I agree with you fully. With the almost laughably unrealistic situations in this series, I think that's one of the reasons I was able to overlook some of those flaws. The characters and cliffhangers kept hooking me in every night. In contrast, a more realistic show, at least compared to this one, My Love My Family, gets a little too subtle and mundane sometimes with the everyday and normal situations.
nsheldon LOL, agree with you fully. Saewa was the only antagonist that really got off on this one. Good catch on you pointing out what Saewa said for Dojin vs. what she did for herself. One of my semi-recent posts, I mentioned and laughed how one one recent episode, Saewa was still adamant that she did nothing wrong and wouldn't apologize, then an episode or two later, suddenly apologizes in a very shallow way to Donghae and the others.... then that was that! All was forgiven. LOL
I found the portrayals of Mrs. CEO and Dojin as well as their punishment more acceptable and forgivable. In these final episodes they took charge and became the main antagonists of the series, but the way it was all handled through their evolution and Mrs. CEO doing the right thing, as well as Dojin's short term prison stay... by the end I was fine with their punishment and happy to see them move on from their malign behavior and make amends.
I hope the next show tonight will hook me as much as I was hooked on this... as well as all the interesting posts, and conversations we had in this thread!

Thank you all for your posts and recaps and your thoughts. I always like reading this board b/c we're a group of different backgrounds and ways of thinking with one common ground: the drama .
From the sound of things, everyone was happy at the end. I was actually hoping bongi and Donghae would have a little one of their own...hehe. Btw, what would bongi called Anna? Just curious. I'm glad piljae is with Anna though.

I suppose Bongi will call Anna what all daughter in laws call their mother in laws... Omini. Bongi and Anna were so close that I could never see Bongi calling Anna Ominim. They were more like girlfriends.
