Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)

Thank you, nsheldon, for the deleted Anna's dream sequence. If she dreamt that, she must subconsciously be falling for Piljae. Her wakening mind is saying "no, no, no, I love James" but maybe her heart has different ideas. Sure hope so. Anna and Piljae and his daughter would make a very nice family. And didn't Piljae and Anna once take Mrs. Cho to the hospital? I may be confused, but if he did, then Mrs. Cho probably thinks kindly of him, too.

And why was is impossible for Ms. CEO to SAY anything when grandma and grandpa kept asking about their daughter? I would have strangled her for just standing there blubbering instead of answering my questions.
I think it was nearly impossible for Mrs. CEO to utter Anna's name because Anna is not just the missing daughter. Anna is also Mrs. CEO's greatest humiliation—the woman her husband loved, had a son with, and is leaving her for. I was relieved to see James understand that and decide to give the full explanation himself, thus sparing his wife at least one humiliation.

But I must also say that it was especially annoying to watch those few minutes of dragging out answering a simple question! That was plain ol' audience abuse!

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)

I had to laugh last night... after all the key players gathered at the hotel and James was about to tell the Cho's the truth.... due to the various goings on, like Mrs. CEO leaving, they decide to go home to talk about it, but then wait until the next morning to discuss it again??????????????? LOL

After the incident with Mrs. Cho being hospitalized and her anxiousness to learn the truth, the family knows full well that she's on pins and needles, desperate for the information... but then in this case, they have her wait til the next day and further James or Mrs. CEO don't tell her immediately but rather wait until they waste a lot of time, and wast more time going to the adoption center. Really? I wonder what they did all night, had some tea, then went to sleep? emoticon I know it's typical K-Drama theatrics for us viewers to heighten our tension and anticipation, but I still had to LOL. emoticon If I were in the Cho's position, I'd want the information this second, not waiting overnight for no reason.

I have been, like nsheldon highly anticipating when the truth is finally learned... so it was a great moment when it ended with the Cho's and Anna finally learning the truth. Good for them - Mrs. Cho has already developed a wonderful relationship with Anna, not so much with Mr. Cho since he's been protective of Mrs. CEO - will be interesting to see if his behavior towards Anna changes immediately or not! I can't wait to see what happens in that scene tonight.

nchristi fully agree with you on the dragging out part with them toying the audience like that. It's one of my frustrations with K-Dramas where it's used so overtly and extensively... but on the other side of the coin, as much as it sometimes annoys me, it also draws me in and I can't wait for the big reveal. Agree with your assessment on Mrs. CEO uttering Anna's name as well... she just can't face the truth that Anna represents... the loss of her husband and the loss of something she's spent 30 years of her life working on. She told someone recently, I think Saewa, how even the utterance of Anna's name sends her into a crippling mental state of heightened headaches or something. class blockquote sherlesin wrote:

Glad to see you back Super Rookie, your posts are always informative. Because Mr. Gross is a man,I think he comes off as pushy and rude, while Yujin is just cheeky. What if Dojin tries to influence him about the future of the Hotel, something Yujin would never go in for.. Now we have to see if Mrs Ceo and Dojin go to such extremes to keep the Hotel, that they turn the Chos completely against them, and wind up losing everything.
Thank you sherlesin. I'm in full agreement with your perspective on Mr. Gross and Yujin. I really hope they get together, especially after last night's finalized proposal between Bongi and Donghae.

On a side note, Bongi's mom is sure to change her tune once she learns Donghae is heir to the Hotel fortune (but I still think Donghae will let Mrs. CEO and Dojin run it and not take the whole pie). Can't wait to see how Bongi's mom reacts or treats Donghae when she learns the scoop.

The problem does not lie with the Chos. The problem is with the Korean familial marriage laws. People more distant than second cousins can marry because of the shortage of surnames in Korea (about 250). Piljae is Bongi's uncle by blood so that if he married Anna first, Dong Hae could not marry his first cousin, Bongi, since Piljae would now be his stepfather. That is why Mrs. Lee was willing to help Piljae marry Anna to block Bongi from marrying Dong Hae. Things might change depending upon the missing daughter outcome. If Dong Hae were put on Kim Jun's family register, the birth father would trump any stepfather restrictions. Hopefully what I said about Mrs. Lee has already been revealed, if not, the moderator can hide the offending portions of my message.

Mr. Gross is a good catch for Bongi (in Mrs. Lee's eyes)-but Donghae is even better. I'm sure Mrs. Lee will do a complete turnaround when she finds out Donghae's real identity.

Bongi's mother will drool over how rich Donghae's grandparents are. It will probably be the fastest case of forgiveness ever in a K-drama for her to accept Donghae's father, the hated Kim Jun—the man who made them go bankrupt and become destitute with his careless reporting.

Thanks, efparri, for the reminder about marriage laws and customs. I guess I was thinking with "Western" mind when I wrote that. . .or rather, wasn't using my mind at all. . .just the heart.

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)

Well, I wonder how long it will take for Bongi's mother to see Donghae as a son in law. Hopefully, this will shut her up.

They did a very good job of editing last nite and the only scenes (or part of scenes) missing were part of Saewa crying at home and one of Gross guy bumping into Yujin just after she was leaving Bongi. Yujin had rubbed Bongi's nose in it that she (Yujin) had bought couples rings for her and Donghae and was going to propose to him. Bongi flashed her ring in Yujin's face telling her she was too late. Yujin tried to yank the ring off Bongi's finger. But... at least she bumped into Gross as she turned to leave... emoticon

Had my tissues out when Anna was finally able to say to her mother "Oma". Then she just couldn't say it enough. (sniff sniff)

Saewa just can't accept that she is losing the hotel. "I've worked too hard for this. It can't end with Bongi and Donghae having the hotel" (something like that.. lol

Ms. CEO having to tell her baby boy that Anna is the missing daughter. Him in disbelief because Anna had already stolen his dad from him (?).

Dojin going to the roof screaming (I wonder how many of us were yelling, "JUMP!!!!") then his mother joining him. I said again, "JUMP... but be sure to hold on to mommy's hand tightly when you do".

Piljae's daughter was so adorable, coaching her dad on decorating, how to dress.. but mostly her total acceptance of having Anna as her mother. Then Piljae's proposal... which was lost in the announcement that Anna's parents were with them. OMG I felt so bad for Piljae. He's happy for her but I bet he will feel totally unsuitable now to have Anna for his wife. He loves her so much. I really hope they can find a way.. AND there was that deleted scene from the episode before where Anna had woke from a dream of Piljae proposing. She kept hitting her face/mouth saying, "I can only love James"... She is falling for Piljae too (I think).

If greedy Ms CEO would play her cards right, she'd still get the hotel because Donghae seemed very concerned during the reunion.. as if he knew him and his mother were once again causing Ms. CEO pain. Donghae has always been very aware, and concerned about how everything has affected and hurt her. Anna raised her son right. Pay attention Ms. CEO!

Loved your comments nsheldon-they were perfect!!!

I know, I know it isn't over until it is over, but after watching the abuse that Mrs CEO and her darling boy inflicted on Anna, Donghae, Bongi and her parents, we are all hoping for punishment for Saewa, Mrs. CEO and her precious boy. Hopefully, they will lose their power and their money and be at the mercy of the people they treated so poorly. Then there is Saewa's mother, I'm not sure that punishing someone for being stupid is appropriate. Perhaps having Dojin and his wicked wife live with Momsy would be punishment enough since they would no longer have a driver and they would have to do their own housework and they will not have control over the hotel.

Just a thought, if Donghae feels that he doesn't feel competant to handle the day to day running of the hotel perhaps he can hire Mrs CEO to be President and he can oversee her. Donghae does seem to really like Mrs. CEO. His spoiled brat half brother can have a job doing menial tasks like sweeping the lobby, mowing the lawn and Saewa can be forbidden to enter the hotel. Donghae can be the CEO and Mrs CEO will become Mrs President and will have to have him approve all hotel business. Dongae would oversee the food related part of the hotel and Dongae and Bongi can be the Head Chef and Ass't Chef or Dongae can get a crash course in hotel management.

It isn't the best KDrama ever but it is moving up on my list of favorite dramas. The runboard is what really makes it more interesting.

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again / Smile Donghae)

I agree with someone who commented earlier that Donghae wants to make his own way, to succeed on his own. Unlike Mrs. CEO and Dojin, Donghae will never accept the hotel (or anything else) on a silver platter. Unlike Mrs. CEO, Dojin, and Saewa, Donghae is not coveting riches. But they judge him and everybody else to be like themselves—having a motive to take over the wealth and position.

I've been wondering how Anna's parents will view Piljae as a prospective son-in-law? Will they accept Piljae if Anna wants to marry him? She is a special needs person and it probably would not be easy to find another man with the "right conditions." If Piljae feels too inadequate financially and withdraws from Anna, his absence might be the very thing that makes Anna realize how much Piljae means to her. She also has "instant family" with Piljae's daughter, Songi. James and Anna will never get together again. With Donghae grown and about to start his own family with Bongi, Anna becoming a family with Piljae and his daughter is a much better situation for everybody.

I'm undecided on what will happen with James and Mrs. CEO. Could they ever really reconcile even if they wanted to? He has no feelings for her and has rejected her completely for another woman. Maybe it's gone to the point of no return for her, too.

The two I hope most to see together are Yujin and Gross. It's like they've been popped out of the same mold. What a power couple they'd make!
