Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again)

Yes, that's the guy who was Geum Soon's BIL..

I'm really tired of Skater Boy pushing that girl down. Tonight was the 2nd time he literally pushed her down to the ground.

Geum Soon's BIL looks too young for that woman but she already wants to change places w/his wife (if he had one).

Skater Boy and Announcer Girl - definitely not a good match. I see him with the girl he pushes down.

Love the older couple (who may be Skater Boy's grandparents!!)

And I've always said... Nchristi has a way w/words. Enjoy reading her posts.

I`m thankful for all your efforts nchristi, trying to make sense of Kdrama is never easy. As we go on,I think we`ll see new sibling relationships discovered and after James is found,we`ll learn more about Anna`s past. Since he has a Korean and English name, she probably met him in the US.

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again)

This summary probably won't be complete, but here's what I remember (not in order).

Saewa almost gets fired because she's late for a meeting. She tells her boss, Mr. Kim (married to hotel lady CEO), that she was late because of working on an interview. She lies, saying that she has convinced a skater (Carl) to look for his father via their TV program—a reality program of sorts, it seems. Mr. Kim believes her and lets her off with a final warning.

Now Saewa's big problem is to convince Carl to do the program with her. He hates the idea and refuses. Saewa pulls out the guilt trip, saying if he really loves her he will do this for her. Still, he refuses. It ends up that Saewa tells him she can't be with a man like him, she wants a man who will support her career. She walks out on him... I guess it's a breakup.

Before this, the rich son (Dojin) who wants to marry Saewa has her car keys. He refuses to give them to her, insisting that she have dinner with him 'tonight,' then afterwards he will hand them over. This makes her mad. She calls the police and reports that the 'bartender' at the Camellia hotel has stolen her car. Later, as she stands outside the hotel, she gets a call back from the police. They tell her the bartender is really a VP at the hotel, the son of the CEO. At the same time, Lady CEO, her son, husband, and the elderly couple are getting in their cars at the entrance. Saewa now gets the picture that the bartender is really the rich hotel son. Suddenly he doesn't look so bad.

Carl & Bongi – More trouble between them. She comes to their room to beg for forgiveness, to keep her from being fired. Carl doesn't want to be bothered but gives in and agrees to tell the hotel people he's changed his mind and doesn't want her fired. At the same time, Dojin is asking his CEO mother what to do. She is angry and embarrassed that the elderly couple witnessed this commotion and trouble. She tells Dojin to have Bongi fired. Period.

Before the elderly couple leave, they stop by Anna and Carl's room to see how she's doing. Carl thinks it is Bongi bothering him again and rudely answers the door. They want to speak briefly with Anna—Malsun (the wife) has strong feelings Anna may be their daughter. But Carl says his mother is sleeping so they can't talk with her now. The couple leaves, but Malsun looks back at the closed door, a strong feeling drawing her. They continue on their way, however.

The Yoon household (the hairdresser mother with two daughters) - Bongi's mother and Saewa's mother went to school together and are old friends. To financially help out Bongi's family, Sulnyeo (sp?) employs Bongi's mom, Sunok, as her housekeeper. While Sunok is cleaning, Sulnyeo snootily tells her to bring her some iced coffee. Since they are friends, Sunok resents the attitude and drops the bombshell that she recently saw Sulnyeo's daughter, Saeyoung, in front of an OBGYN clinic. (This is the daughter who is pregnant with twins by the son of Sunok.) The two women get into an argument, not knowing that their two children are involved and that the daughter is pregnant with twins.

Suddenly, my mind feels like scrambled eggs trying to keep all these families straight. I'll leave it to someone else to fill in the things I'm forgetting. emoticon

One other thing last night. When the old couple asked Carl about his grandparents,he said they died eight years ago in an accident. They didn`t realize he was speaking about Anna`s adoptive parents. I wonder if Carl and Anna spending so much time in the US,speak Korean with an American accent.

Wow, a lot happened last night. I really appreciate the recap... thanks!

Announcer girl is so beautiful but she is already looking like it'll be whatever will get her famous/rich. I don't even think she looks good w/Carl so I hope now that she knows the guy that likes her is rich, she'll go after him.

I will have to get over my dislike for Carl...pushed that girl down twice.

Re: K-Drama: 웃어라 동해야 (Smile Again)

Carl seems awfully violent for an athlete on a national team competing in a foreign country! I strongly dislike his behavior towards Bongi. I understand his sensitivity and concern when it comes to his mother, Anna, but there's no need to use more than words to express himself with Bongi. He also has the bad habit of acting first, thinking later. Maybe all this will end up with him being kicked off the American team. Then he can be free to live in Korea and look for his father—whenever that becomes important to him. class ul class li Park Jung Ah (Saewa) - Is a former member of the girl group, Jewelry. class li Ji Chang Wook (Carl) - Played the youngest son in Sons of Sol Pharmacy. class li Lee Jang Woo (Dojin) - Is from the KPop group, 24/7. He also played Matan in Three Brothers. Hwan-hee and he are cousins.

Just curious on something - and this is not the first drama that did this.

why would you make a k-drama with a character that was born and grew up in the US but couldn't even utter one english word?

and yes, that Carl Laker character is pretty violent. I saw the first episode and I think that's it for me.

nchristi - are you referring to my idol Hwanhee?

Maybe because it is a drama made for the Korean-speaking audience, not an American one. Most K-dramas that have American actors speaking English in non-lead roles speak a form of English that is more understandable to the Koreans, while most of us here can't understand their "English" at all. class blockquote nchristi - are you referring to my idol Hwanhee?Yep, one and the same.
