Re: J-Drama: JIN
Thanks for the info, Nchristi! I just checked out the Wikipedia page about Lee Ha Eung, and it sounds like he's quite an important historical figure in 19th century Korean history.
I found this particular paragraph quite interesting: class blockquote During the mid 1860s Heungseon Daewongun was the main proponent of isolationism and the instrument of the persecution of native and foreign Catholics, policies that led directly to the French Campaign against Korea, 1866 and the United States expedition to Korea in 1871. The early years of Heungseon Daewongun's rule also witnessed a large effort to restore the largely dilapidated Gyeongbok Palace, the seat of royal authority. During Heungseon Daewongun's reign, faction politics, Seowon and power wielded by the Andong Kim clan completely disappeared.Sounds like the Daewongun may have quite a different perspective about Dr. Jin's advanced medical techniques than Ryoma did in the Japanese version—especially since Ryoma seemed to be a big proponent of importing knowledge and technology from the Western powers. Very interesting!
