Re: J-Drama: JIN
I think Ryomaden has been a lot more historically accurate than Jin was. In last Saturday's episode of Ryomaden that aired on UTB 18.2 (#19), we were seeing events from 1863, the same time period that was featured on Jin. As we found out in the Taiga, Ryoma was in Kyoto during that time, helping Rintaro with the new naval training center. But in Jin, Ryoma was portrayed to be in Edo, which we found not to be the case in the Taiga. Then again, I guess a drama where the main character travelled back in time isn't supposed to be very historically accurate! LOL!

Re: J-Drama: JIN
Ahh yes, I've been hearing recently that Jin 2 is now starting to air in Japan. Since UTB aired the original series last year, I think they'll air the sequel in the future, as well. Since it has just started airing in Japan this month, perhaps we'll see it here at the end of the year or maybe sometime next year?

Hi everyone
Sorry I have been quiet lately
I've been taking care of my sick mom. Anyway the web site 'drama crazy.com' been playing "Jin" episode 1 in English subtitles. Very good drama with all of the same characters from saki to ryoma sakamoto!

Re: J-Drama: JIN
Wow, this should be interesting! Thank you for the info, SuperRookie. I noticed that the Korean "Jin" is transported back to 1860—the same year that the Japanese "Jin" traveled back to. Was this time period in Korean history just as tumultuous as it was in Japanese history? I think part of the "suspense" of Jin was that it was taking place during one of the most important time periods in Japanese history, so I wonder if this year/decade (1860s) had the same significance in Korean history?

Re: J-Drama: JIN
I wouldn't consider this one of the most important periods in Korean History, but it was one of the worst due to extreme corruption, natural disasters and constant revolt. How much that comes up as a main point of the story though, remains to be seen. Right now the trend in K-Dramas... especially by the broadcasting/production helm (MBC), is fictionalizing, adding fantasy or romantic elements to historical or period dramas (more so than in the past), as that's what the viewers want/demand. Historically accurate and complex series, are doing progressively poorly both in ratings and in financial aspects - so in this case, I'm expecting the historical aspects to take a backseat in favor of more of the K-Drama tropes. So a word of warning, I'd probably expect something very different from what was seen in the J-Drama version, perhaps changes/attempts to make it more mainstream (didn't work though, ratings were pretty good in SK, but towards the end ratings didn't fare too well). LOL! But we'll see when we get a chance to view it next weekend.
I hope the JIN viewers that do view this Korean adaptation, decide to post in the above linked thread... I'd love to hear opinions on the stylistic and narrative differences between the versions.

Re: J-Drama: JIN
Ahh, I see. Thanks for the info, SuperRookie. I guess the premise of the drama will be that Dr. Jin was transported back to a period of uncertainty in Korea's history, which I guess you could was the basic premise of the Japanese version, too. It'll be interesting to see how they integrate the historical aspects into the drama. Not everything was factual in the Japanese version. They used historical figures and events, but they weren't exactly accurately portrayed. I wonder who will have the role of Sakamoto Ryoma in the Korean version? In the Japanese version, Ryoma was Jin's best friend and sidekick, so I wonder which Korean historical figure will be selected to take the role as Jin's best buddy?
Jin was interesting and certainly has a unique plot, but I got a little tired of all the unanswered questions and "mysteries" by the end of the drama. That being said, I think I may tune in for a bit to see how the two versions differ!
