I just watched the first episode of Jin. I haven't been this excited by a drama in the last few months! I hope every one gets a chance to see it.

Re: J-Drama: JIN

If anyone is watching this series without e-subs, I found a site that includes short synopses of the episodes. Here's the synopsis for Episode 1. There should be links on that page to the summaries for Eps. 2, 3, and 4.

Glad to hear from you, Sylia74! emoticon

If you are watching this drama this link may be of interest...

If I have done this correcfly it will show parades of the Edo period and you will see the tall shoes that were once worn by the highest grade prostitutes of that time. The interesting thing is the walk itself. They swing their feet out in an arc which shows off the shoes.

There were no geishas in that period. They came along around the Tokagawa time. They also were not as active in the sexual aspects of their performance. Music and poetry and dance were more often their style.

It's all very interesting to see how things started and how they progressed and changed.

Peg-san, thank you for posting the video of the Edo period parades! How fascinating that the processions once viewed by people in the city of Edo still occur today, for a people of another generation. Interesting how history and traditions can continue for centuries on end. Thanks for sharing!

Re: J-Drama: JIN

Peggy-san forwarded me this link to a website with photos of old Japan portraying city life and other themes from the 1850s (the times of the last Tokugawa shoguns) through the 1930s, after Edo had been renamed Tokyo. They have some very interesting photographs. How fascinating to see daily life during the time of Princess Atsu and the Tokugawa shoguns.

Thanks for sharing, Peggy!

Greg san,

thanks for putting this in your post. I have taken the time to go into this site and it is full of interesting photos and can lead you into many other fascinating pages. It can not be done in one visit!! I love the history both from the times of the shoguns up to the present.

I see they mention Meiji and Taisho and Showa Periods but I don't know what comes after that.

Re: J-Drama: JIN

Peg-san, you're welcome! Thanks for sharing the name of this site with us. There are some great photographs there.

The Showa Period ended in 1989, with the death of the Emperor Hirohito. After his son, Emperor Akihito, ascended the throne, Japan entered the Heisei Period, which is the name of the current era/period.

Jin finished with very high ratings so hopefully there will be a second season. I hope UTB will decide to air it.
