Kimura Takuya Tackles First All-English Role
With a major domestic film about to be released in a few weeks, SMAP's Takuya Kimura (34) had some other big news this week. In what will be his first appearance in an English-language movie, he has been named to an all-star international cast for the latest project by renowned Vietnamese-French director Tran Anh Hung (44).

I Come With the Rain, Tran's first movie in eight years, stars Josh Hartnett (29) as former L.A. cop turned private eye, Kline. Hired to find Shitao (Kimura), the son of a Chinese billionaire, he travels to Hong Kong where he teams up with an old friend and local cop (Shawn Yue). His search leads him to the gangster Su Dongpo (Korean star Lee Byung Hun) and his druggie mistress (Tran's wife, actress Tran Nu Yen Khe). Meanwhile, he is haunted by memories of the serial killer Hasford (Elias Koteas) whose crimes almost drove him insane and made him quit the LAPD.

The movie is scheduled to open in the autumn of 2008, with a possible screening at next year's Cannes Film Festival. Director Tran is best known for 1993's Academy Award nominee The Scent of Green Papaya. Meanwhile Kimura's Hero, the movie version of Fuji TV's most successful ever drama, hits the big screens on September 8. He is joined by co-star Matsu Takako (30) and a host of major names.

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya

Bubu,

If this film is anywhere as good as 'Green Papaya" I shall be thrilled. I thought that was one of the more beautiful films I have ever seen. I can't imagine how he made a studio in France look entirely like a Viet setting.

I know he must have done some local filming byu the main stuff was done in a studio.
Anyway I am looking forward to this new project. Must admit I know very little about Josh Hartnett. He is not as big a star in US as Kimura is in Japan that's for sure. this will be the second time for Kimura to work with Lee Byung Hun.
I know that Kimura must have been working very hard on improving his English speech. He understands much more than he says ...or at least that was the way things were some time ago. He and his wife were both concentrating on perfecting English because their daughters are learning also. Kimura is the more Westernised member of the SMAP group mostly because he was a fan of the US and English rock groups.

thanbks for posting all this Bubu.

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya

Just received the news that Takuya Kimura was awarded the top actor award in the Seoul Drama Award for 2007. Helen Mirren was the best actress for something I had not seen. This award takes in film and drama from all over the world and is quite prestigious. It was for Kimura's role in 'The Family.'

He is making the film that bubu talked about now and then next year he is apparently set to make another film with Apex. I guess this will be a Japanese production.

Finally Kimura is able to spread his acting wings. I think there will be a loosening of the chains with SMAP and the johnny Jimusho company.
All the members of the group are involved with acting and they are pretty good on their own. Also Masahiro Naikai is a very good MC for many shows.

J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya

Wow, that is great news. I'm really liking THE FAMILY so far. Could do without the commercials but I like it.

I actually find Kimura to be a great actor not what I would usually think from a singer. He is showing that he is mastering both fields

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya

vannessave,

I have posted about tonight's episode on the Japanese thread. I was not happy at all with all those commercials. How anyone could hold on to the thread of the drama is beyond me. I think lots was cut out also.

Kimura has always done more with his acting over the past fifteen years. He has done stagework and film and drama for TV. I think he really wants to act more and also do it in film and now at last he is getting the chance. You should see the TV drama'A Million Stars Fell' it is fascinating and he does a very dark but interesting role. the whole story is gripping. His pal Sanma who is much older and a well known comedian played a serious role in this also..... Every year the two of them do a special together and they go out deep sea fishing or rock climbing. At least Kimura has to do the rock climb and they had never done it before. They have a great time and laugh till Kimura is helpless. One show they both did a takeoff on Beyonce. It is hilarious. I have to find it on my docs and send it to you.
that is if you would like it. You know I am not good at sending stuff. Gets lost sometimes!!!

Starting on the 7th of the month, SMAP's Kimura Takuya will be appearing on Meiji Seika's new commercials for its sugarless gum XYLISH. Kimura will be wearing the latest street fashion styles in 5 colors: blue, red, yellow, silver and pink. The commercial will be humourous, and will feature a showy dance from Kimura. This summer, will the entire Japan be captive to the "5-color Kimutaku"?!

I suspect that this commercial will be a funny one. He will be good. He works hard for all his commercials and gives input very often.
I rather like his last one for Gatsby when he is wearing the top hat. so sexy......Wow!!!

Thank you bubu... He looks so serious. Not the best pics I have seen of him... but like them anyway.

Kimura Takuya Top Dog Yet Again
Image
September 04, 2007
SMAP member Kimura Takuya (34) has been chosen as Japan's most popular guy for an amazing 14th straight year. The annual survey has been carried out by women's magazine anan since 1988, and Kimutaku has been on top since 1994, the year he came of age. He also has a 13-year streak going in another annual poll as the man most women would like to sleep with. He has managed to build a successful acting career in parallel with SMAP's ongoing popularity. He has starred in just about all the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, and the movie adaptation of one, Fuji TV's Hero, is set to open in theaters this weekend. He has also shown his talent in more 'serious' roles, such as the lead in Yamada Yoji's 2006 samurai drama Bushi no Ichibun. Kimutaku is of course just the brightest in the Johnny's Jimusho galaxy of male stars, and they make up 18 of the survey's Top 30 most popular males.
