posticon Learning Chinese 學中文

I realized that we've long had topics to help those wishing to learn Korean and Japanese, but we don't have a corresponding topic to help in learning Chinese.

With that said, my favorite site to lookup Chinese characters and phrases is http://www.mandarintools.com/.

My favorite source for lessons is http://www.chinesepod.com/. It has free lessons for download (and free subscriptions to automatically download new lessons in your iPod or web browser). And it has paid subscriptions that allow you to do more, like get transcripts of the lessons, additional vocabulary, and practice conversations with real native speakers.

For software that helps you use Chinese on your computer, I obviously like NJStar's products, which is why we offer them (and at a discount, too). The Chinese Pen product is especially nice for those wanting to handwrite Chinese into their computers using a mouse (or tablet+stylus).

My favorite site for doing machine translations of English text into Chinese or vice versa is http://babelfish.altavista.com. My favorite site for getting pop-up definitions for Chinese phrases or web pages is http://www.popjisyo.com/.

Re: Learning Chinese 學中文

My friend told me this is an effective software to learn Chinese. She's teaching her 7YO daughter and all the neighbor's kids (non-Chinese kids ages 3-6) Chinese with great results. Imagine, they are in Nashville!

Personally, I haven't used this program yet, but I will look into it.
