Re: Chinese movies w/ Eng subs on KSCI
Hmm - thanks Sandy. It looks like KSCI is experimenting and seeing how Chinese movies which are aired with subs do in the mornings and mid afternoons so that they might sub some of their series.

Re: Chinese movies w/ Eng subs on KSCI
It seems all the Chinese movies/dramas I've watched have been dubbed in Chinese, whether or not they have English subtitles. Do they ever release these programs without voiceovers? I would like to view some of these programs but dubbing creates such a disconnect for me that I rarely watch one anymore, even if it's subtitled in English.

Re: Chinese movies w/ Eng subs on KSCI
No. Never - sometimes if the drama is from the Chinese Republic and if it is spoken with regional dialect (such as Hoklo) it is dubbed into the official Mandarin dialect. Usually if it sfrom the mainland they are left alone.

I'm assuming KSCI gave up the experiement of the English subs.
If you are in Los Angeles a good source for Chinese movies is the County of Los Angeles Library. My mom checked out a bunch for my son (he is actually learning Japanese but well, she couldn't tell the difference between the characters and we didn't want to hurt her feelings though we'll probably give her some tips later). They had English Subtitles.
Hope that helps. The County lets you put videos on hold for free and you check out a ton for 7 days for free.

The first few they aired with subtitles were really good, but it declined after that. I would have loved to see classics like Meteor Garden subbed though
