There is a kind of hole-in-the-wall dvd store in Chinatown on Spring Street. Can't think of the cross streets, but if you venture down to Spring Street, and cross Spring Street, you can't miss the dvd store. They have quite a good selection of legit dvds, and loads of boot cds.

Really? I have to go there sometime - finally a non-market, non-souveneir, non-restaurant shop in Chinatown!

In the Montclair Plaza Mall there's a small shop called "Anime Club". Mostly anime related stuff of course (dvds, toys, manga), but they have a small selection of j-pop music cds and some dvds (including afew K-Dramas) if you want to check it out if you're in the area. I usually head there to get my anime DVDs if the local Best Buy doesn't have them in stock yet.

Does anybody know of a Marukai which sells DVD's in addition to their market-like stuff (like Mitsuwa?)

Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
I need to go to 5 star laser some time. I saw some ads and wondered about these places. I recently went to.. umm world newspapers?' little store in monterey park when they had a sale. I bought a legit copy of stairways to heaven: yesasia version for $65. I think that was pretty ok right? That place had mostly chinese subbed korean tapes but I found internal affairs I and loveholic with english subs.
You guys should try a place called soyodo. It just opened and mostly everything there is like $2 or something. They have mostly chinese songs/dvds and stuff but I found some korean like my sassy girl and it was like $5 but I don't think it has english subs =( super sad there. I wish I would've stayed in Chinese school! It's on Las Tunas Drive in Temple City right across the street for a korean rental place (how convenient) and CKW (my uniform place) It's near wells fargo, bank of america and 99 cents store. If you see scrapbook buddies coming from there, then just go a little bit more and you'll see soyodo. I don't know if it's legit though.. so you didn't hear it from me. GO TO THERE SOON cuz free membership lasts until oct 10 i believe.
Most of the places I go are chinese places.. are the ones in korea town expensive? I was about to go to that store on beach blvd. but i heard the cds are like $14. A little expensive for me. I buy used ones from soompi =)

Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
I think places in Japantown and Koreatown (not sure about Chinatown) are probably more expensive than little shops you may found scattered all over Southern California. Most probably.
