Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
TomCat - No, don't worry about it! Thanks for the clarification. Looks good - hopefully they might have some drama soundtracks or something, but I'll check it out.
Tangpriest - I'll do a websearch and see if I can find any information.

Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
Today ( Oct. 23rd )in The Orange County Register is an add for an anime store's grand opening sale. It's called "anime nuts" , They are at 2660 West La Palma Ave., Anaheim, that's between Beach Blvd. and Magnolia Ave.( 714 ) 826-8285 for store hours, Their web site is buy dvd .com.
There's a coupon on page 15 of the front page section, thats good for 5 percent off excluding special mark-downs

Meh, why do all the anime shops have to NOT be in the valley! -_-;
Sounds good.
If you do live in the Valley, there is this small place between Nordhoff Street and Parthenia Street on Reseda Boulevard. I knew it existed for years, had even talked to them on the phone, but I had never seen the store. Its stuck between two hardware stores, just found it a few weeks ago. I forget their name - but they have a pretty good inventory.

Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
Here is their address:
1045 E. Valley Blvd #A113 and I believe the cross street might be Walnut. It's towards the end of town in Rosemead. As you head south down Valley Blvd., it's on your left in a small mall-type complex. I'll be heading down that way myself this week to pick up a copy of Kung Fu Hustle.

Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
Where are all the good CD shops and bookstores in Chinatown?
I know that Japantown has Weller Court where you have Kinokuniya and other places to purchase books, CD's, and DVD's, but Chinatown on Broadway just has souveniers, restaurants, doctor offices, banks, flower shops, and bakeries. Where are all the books and entertainment?

I don't think there is any! It's so hard to find a nice cd shop these days...

.
That sucks. When I go to Chinatown there's no where I can sit down and relax like in Little Tokyo. Its just shops, shops, restaurants, and more shops. They should really try to modernize Chinatown and clean it up. If they do, a lot of people will flock there.

places to buy cd/DVD/tapes
Skimming through this topic, I didn't see some stores which are quite good. BookOff in Pacific Square (on Redondo Beach Blvd. between Western and Normandie in Gardena) has current new and used cd's (there's a $3 section of used cd's which I've tried, and never had a problem). They also have a frequent buyer card - after $50 of purchases, you get $2.50 off); they also have lots of new and used dvds (unfortunately unsubbed). Another good place is Geo in Rolling Hills Plaza (Crenshaw at Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance) also has a good supply of cheap used cds as well as dvds. Finally, Kamikaze on 2nd street near Japanese Village in Little Tokyo has a good supply of used cds (and lots of anime stuff). BTW if you don't need subtitles, you can rent the dorama shows currently being shown in Japan at Japan Video(?) on Sherman Way just west of Sepulveda in Van Nuys. Happy shopping!

Hanzotoponta-san, I've been to Kamikaze, and I was actually quite disappointed. Last time I went to that shop, which was a few years ago, half of the store was closed off because it was devoted to hentai anime..
As for Japan Video, its in this shopping center which is almost a mini-Little Tokyo, they have something called Kyushu Ramen and other japanese shops..
