Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
Thought this might make a good general topic.
The most well known place to buy Korean cds/dvds/tapes is at Music Plaza in the ABC Plaza Mall on Western. I found their prices to be competetive with Yesasia and they have a great selection of dvds, including several dramas with English subs. (Prices for these are higher than Yesasia, however.) Today I visited Tube Music on Beach Blvd in Buena Park, and though not as big as Music Plaza, their music selection was good, dvd selection satisfactory, and I didn't pay any attention to tapes. They had a several dramas available, but the only one with subs was Sangdoo. The prices are similar to Music Plaza. They are currently offering an anniversary deal, buy 3, get 1 free. There are smaller shops that sell the odd dvd here and there, but Music Plaza offers the widest selection.
For Hong Kong/Chinese dvds, I buy almost everything from Five Star Laser in San Gabriel on Valley Blvd. They also carry several dramas, but since these are seldom, if ever, subtitled, I don't buy them. They have the best prices in town. There are several other stores that sell dvds/dramas, but their prices aren't as good.
For Japanese music, dvds, and dramas someone else will need to make suggestions. Obviously, Kinokuniya, Asahiya and anime stores carry music and some dvds, but don't know of any stores that carry it all.
Some Japapnese dramas can be found in Chinese dvd stores, of which there are plenty in San Gabriel (try in the 99 Ranch Market Plaza on Valley Blvd. - also swing by Sam Woo's for bbq pork!). These generally are in Japanese with Chinese subtitles.

Good info, Tangpriest. Did you happen to see any sheet music or music booklets in any of these stores? I know it is rare, but sometimes the CD's come w/music booklet.

Good idea, tangpriest! =) Thanks for the info!
Yeah, I guess for Japanese stuff, there is hardly any. Little Tokyou's Kinokuniya is prolly the best, they have quite a lot of tapes and cds, but none english subbed.

Great guys, glad you like the idea. Music Plaza does have sheet music.
A question about Japanese music: I was in a Japanese video store in Torrance that also carried Japanese music. I saw a sign that the music was for rent. Have any of you seen this before?

Music? For rent?
Hmm, that is indeed wierd. Perhaps they meant that you can rent CDs or something.

Do you have directions to get to the places you just listed? Especially Korean stuffs related?
Thanks

Re: Places in S. Cal to buy cd/dvd/tapes
What I'll do is pass on the web addresses. It'd probably be best for you to check out their sites and get directions from there as the directions will depend on where you're coming from.
Music Plaza (in Koreatown):
http://www.music-plaza.com
Tube Music (on Beach Blvd):
http://www.annyoung.com
I usually use programs like Map Quest once I have the addresses of the places I'd like to go.

Galleria Market (in Koreatown and Northridge) also has a good music supply. They have TV Dramas and some CDs, as well as books and newspapers in the market.

Marukai doesn't sell any CDs or Books or DVDs. Its too bad, their sales would really skycrocket if they did.
