Favorite TV K-Drama Song
I absolute adore "Love Letter" and a violin instrumental on the Yellow Handkerchief OST (although I do indeed love all of the music) and the OST of the Winter Drama--"In My Memory" is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Also the music from Scent of Summer is outstanding. It is very romantic, light and enthralling. I do not know the artists names on these but would appreciate it if someone could give me their names. Also the English name of the violin piece from Yellow Handker. which is also used in many scenes between Hyre-ran and Hyun-kun on OMR. Would appreciate any help on this.

Re: Favorite TV Drama Song
I’ve always felt that the music accompanying K-dramas, while adequate, is rarely worth paying money for. I actually did break down and buy the OST of “Yellow Handkerchief,” but really, that was only because the music helps to bring back such fond memories of that wonderful drama. The music itself is pleasant enough (and, I agree, certainly better than average by K-drama standards) but it just isn’t something I want to listen to over and over.
Actually, the one OST I wish they would make available is the music from “Age of Warriors.” I *do* love that theme music!
(edit: golly, I sure sounded like a grumbler when I re-read what I wrote!)

I bought the Bodyguard OST, and everytime I'm in the car, I would always set it to play =P

Re: Favorite TV Drama Song
There are three OSTs I have plunked down the money for: Yellow Handkerchief; Over the Green Prairie, and Musashi.
Between the K-dramas, Green Prairie is my favorite OST, overall. The music is outstandingly varied, from whimsy to love themes to a hauntingly beautiful cello piece.
I have to admit, however, that Yellow Handkerchief has my favorite love song, the theme of unrequited love between the younger brother (on the motorcycle) and the rich girl who became the movie star. The OST has a couple versions of this theme song, one encapsulating the youthful heartache of loving but not attaining; the other arrangement most poignantly resolves in the flame dying and the more mellow, mature acceptance that it's over and that life has moved on.
Musashi is in a category all its own and I absolutely love several of the tracks. As a whole, however, the cd is not that enjoyable. While I find several pieces incredibly stirring and inspiring, the majority of the CD seems to be background music (i.e., representations of blades striking one another, etc.), interesting from a musician/composer (I have a couple of those in my family) point of view, but not necessarily from the average listener's (like me) point of view.
Still, I have to admit that of all the drama music I've heard, Musashi is the one that whenever I hear something from it I instantly see a Musashi scene in my mind. Not so with the other OSTs. Ennio Morricone really is a very talented composer and orchestrator.
(Just realized that this thread is under K-drama, not general TV drama. Sorry for the Musashi comments.)

Re: Favorite TV Drama Song
Not aware of the Green Prairie music but I shall look for it.
Besides simple pure enjoyment, music transports us to a different place and time. It rekindles emotions and connects us with friends, loved ones or special times. This is why I believe that YH OST is so great. The music stirs and rekindles the passion of relationships, found and lost.
Since it was mentioned, the relationship between the motorcycle guy and the rich girl did not evolve as I had wished and I really could not stand the persistence of the girl he married. But for a brief moment--there is the MUSIC--and we can see them together once more.
The BODYGUARD music is stimulating. Great for driving and jogging! I have that OST.
The Winter Drama contains beautiful piano and violin music. Also, the Scent of Summer contains lovely music including a very notable classical piece.
As I sit in the garden listening to music, birds appear to sing more, the sky seems bluer and the flowers seem a million times more beautiful. I am grateful and in awe of the people who can write, play and sing the music.
There should be a little more recognition for the musical artists, for without their music, the story would be lifeless.
Thanks for the responses. On to order Green Prairie, if I can find it!

I was of the same mind...! Good thing the motorcycle guy (Yuhn Jung Hoon) and rich girl (Han Ga In) are a couple in real life, due to the series =)
I think my real favorite OST would be that for Stock Flower...the theme song as well as instrumentals for that album were just wonderful

Re: Favorite TV Drama Song
Creidesca, you are gorgeous! Thanks for the link. I am going to try to get it thru a new source that opened out here a few months ago. They were able to get me the Winter Drama Tracks after I searched for 1-1/2 YRS and was told by everybody that it was out of print...sorry.....not available....sorry. Well, I got it thanks to AnNYoung.com. Merci'. You made my week.....now if only Hye-ran would rush right back home to her love.
