C/J/K Drama w/eng subs availability/quality
Thought this might be a worthy topic, to discuss the availability and/or quality of our favorite c/j/k dramas.
Recently I purchased Rooftop Room Cat, the popular comedy romance from Korea. I've watched two episodes of the dvd. Looks good to me! The subs are easy to read, the picture quality is good, and the price was fair (I think about $70.00 at Yeasasia). I understand from other message boards, that Yesasia is planning on subbing more dramas. This looks like a pretty good start for them. Especially when you consider some of the subbing done for some of the older popular titles, like Hotelier and Autumn Story (Endless Love). I know they've also released Hotelier recently with better subs, but I'd already purchased the badly subbed version.

Japanese dramas are hard to find officially subbed nowadays, because Japan is so homogenous. But there are private suppliers that supply them. Same with Chinese and Taiwanese dramas. I have no idea about the Koreans.

Is it yesasia that's subbing the dramas moreso than before, or is it the television networks who produce the dramas (i.e. KBS, MBC, SBS...)?

I think Yesasia had to buy the exclusive rights to subtitling the series for release on DVD here in the US--and it's only for the US.
I've noticed that KBS is providing more english titles for their K-dramas at the series official webpage.
I can't wait till I get my Sangdoo DVD sometime after the end of March, so nice of them to include the OST for the series

They probably just realized they'd make more money by selling English subbed copies to the US seeing as they're not even bothering to sub them themselves.

I would actually like to see if Fuji lets YesAsia sub their dramas. Because if they do, that's not really fair, it proves that its all money to Fuji.

a correction to myself, the latest 2 releases of K-dramas w/ ENG subs on DVD are actually by the Korean distributor Bitwin and not Yesasia. So far, Yesasia has only released 2 K-dramas w/ ENG subs from themselves: Hotelier and Attic Cat

Bitwin? I haven't heard of them... AFAIK the Japanese subbing companies are only GOLDEN NIPPON NETWORK.

Your right Yesasia has two korean dramas to their credit so far. I think the third one will be Love Letter sometime next week. They are subconctracting out the subtitle work, I read on Soompi that a person named Zola who fansubs has been hired by Yesasia.
The two new korean dramas being released on 03/31/04 are by Bitwin. I am not sure about Sang-doo but I have heard that Autumn Story subtitles were done by Kbfd-tv for Bitwin. I would not be surprised if they also did Sang-doo. So far I know that Kbfd-tv has subtitled three korean dramas for Bitwin. They are Winter Ballad, Summer Scent, and Autumn Story coming out at the end of the month.

I get it. So they're basically subbing all the good ones before they get on to subbing all of them..basically?
