Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly, but doesn't South Korea require mandatory military service for all men (like Israel, except Israel has mandatory military service for both men and women)?

Re: About the “Drama Misc.” Forum…
Yeah... that's right. South Korea has always had that. But shouldn't this guy have already filled it out if he's in his late 20's? I'm glad that here in the USA we don't have something like this. In all the drama-producing countries - Japan is the only one which doesn't have mandatory military service. SK, PRC, and the ROC all do.

Re: About the “Drama Misc.” Forum…
Isn't there some sort of system in the US whereby all males need to fill out a form when they turn 21? Even if they're in college, or whatever, and then they are advised of what their military standing would be?

If I followed the Korean news correctly, this particular actor (and a couple others) got fraudulent deferrals (reclassification) by claiming they had kidney disease (which is one of the conditions prohibiting military service). The government there is cracking down on this particular scheme because it's been used by quite a few guys to avoid their military obligation. (I have to admit that every time I look at the Immortal Yi Soon-shin, I keep thinking of the actor avoiding the draft.)
[Selective Service Act in the U.S. Put on hold (never cancelled) since, I think, the l970s, but always waiting in the wings in case government wants to reinstitute the draft. Hope all this Iraq stuff gets resolved soon, or that they stick with volunteer army, which I know is what military prefers. It's the reservists for whom I feel sorry--the "backdoor draft," as it's being called.]

Re: About the “Drama Misc.” Forum…
Very, very sad.
But on the upside, Han Ga In's bf Yun Jung Hoon has replaced Song in Sad Sonata which they say is the first c/j/k drama ever to be filmed in NY,(guess 'Harvard crew hadn't hit NY yet) and under heavy NYPD protection, the city has welcomed the crew, even bending a few rules for them as they enjoy lunches in Central Park while filming. Apparently, Kwon Sang Woo and Yun Jung Hoon go jogging in Central Park at 6:00 a.m. every day, and they are staying at 77 Broadway On The Avenue Hotel (next to bldg where Madonna lives).
Somehow I get the feeling that JFK, Jr. is jogging right along w/them. Isn't Madonna's bldg. where he/wife lived? .

Song Seung-heon Appointed as Artilleryman, Jang Hyuk as Rifleman
Actor Song Seung-heon (28) and artist Jang Hyuk (28), who joined the army on Nov. 16, have been appointed as artilleryman and rifleman, respectively.
Song Seung-heon is currently receiving training at the 15th Army Division in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, the eastermost tip of the Demilitarized Zone. He joined an artillery squad after being selected for the 105-millimeter artillery battalion.
Jang Hyuk, who was given number 100, his favorite number, will serve as a rifleman in an area located north to Song¡¯s battalion.
Instead of serving in the army entertainment division, both Song and Jang, who volunteered to serve in the 15th division, will complete their military service in this area utilizing their skills.
awwwww .... he's still cute!
What's this? .... could have served in entertainment div.? Is it too late to change mind? Oh, no! I guess they're getting ready for some reality tv drama exp..... no, no, no!
