Currently watching, Honmamon, Young Man, Shinsengumi, and Good Luck... would watch more Japanese programs if they were translated... couldn't get into the Korean dramas... maybe later.

That does it.

I'm seriously going to go to Petitions.com and petition Fuji TV to subtitle those dramas. Who else is with me?

Well, I’m good with this . . . but remember that it’s not so much a request that they English-subtitle their dramas as much as a request that they *allow* others to do so.

And, unfortunately, we all know how they feel about that.

My sense is that they *might* take the petitions seriously if they saw that Japanese-Americans were doing most of the signing, but I doubt that petitions from a bunch of “blue-eyed Americans” will influence them one tiny bit. emoticon

Bummer, but that's just what I suspect will happen.

You really think?
Well... I'm Japanese American so I guess I'll go in... but I don't know what we're doing... heck, I'm just figuring out how to type online.
No Braveheart or crucifixions involved is there? Excuse me... hara kiri... this is a Japanese forum.

Well, if a Japanese American(s) signs this, or even other Asian Americans, we can say that us "blue eyed Americans" are learning Japanese (which some of us are) and that it would raise up viewership of the Fuji dramas.

I didn’t mean to be so cynical (part of my nature, I guess) but as you all know Fuji-TV used to allow subtitling until about 3 or 4 years ago, when they suddenly decided to forbid anyone from subtitling their broadcasts in America on the grounds that their dramas were only intended for viewing by Japanese nationals living in America (and yes, that’s exactly what they stated on their website).

And I’ve been pissed at Fuji-TV ever since. They do some great dramas, yes - but why do they have to treat us with such disrespect?

makes me wonder how come they're singling those in the US out, since those in Singapore can get the Fuji-TV dramas (and most of them are pretty recent) w/ english subs on TV

I don't think Americans are the only ones who are racists... if they actually said that... now you know how it feels to be discriminated against...
I guess knowing what they think of us I'm happy they actually decided to subtitle for us lowly barbarians...
I don't think we should tick them off... thanking them would probably be more effective, knowing the Japanese psyche...
The more I think about it I think that's what our strategy should be...
Shower them with compliments until they can't take it anymore and give us more programs in english.

LOL, well, still. There are Japanese people living here who don't know Japanese, or who are learning Japanese and want to perfect their language. That's why UTB and even KTE and KTAN (for Koreans) sub theirs.

O.K. so can you give me their e-mail address so I can bow down and thank them profusely for allowing me the chance to learn more about my homeland?
