(Rurouni Kenshin)
classfloat-leftSet a few years after the events of xml:langja-JP 新選組! (Shinsengumi!), this excellent anime makes frequent references to the historical events of this period, in which the Tokugawa shogunate had been removed from power, samurais and their right to wear swords were abolished, Japan begins industrializing, and schools became compulsory and began to teach of the West. (Roughly half of men were literate during the time of this series and of Shinsengumi!)

(The Handsome Swordsman of Legend)
The Handsome Swordsman of Legend: A Man who Fights for Love classblockquotexml:langja-JP緋村剣心 (Himura, Kenshin) says:
The sword is a weapon. The art of swordsmanship is learning how to kill. That is the truth. What Miss Kaoru says is sweet and innocent talk that only those whose hands have never been stained with the blood of men can believe. But to tell you the truth, I much prefer Miss Kaoru's sweet and innocent talk over the truth. Indeed I do. I hope that one day, her words will become the truth for all of us to live by.See the TV Tome summary of this episode. In addition to the notes there, note the xml:langja-JP新選組 flag.
The main focus of this episode is to introduce the main character, xml:langja-JP緋村剣心 (Himura, Kenshin), along with xml:langja-JP神谷薫 (Kamiya, Kaoru) and a villain. The character of Kenshin was originally inspired by the famous assassin Kawakami Gensai. Before this anime, Kenshin is one of the top assassins for the Choushuu. But, sick of killing, he disappeared and wandered for years before turning up in this episode.
See photos of Kondo, Hijikata, and Nagakura here. That site also has a detailed episode summary and screenshots.

Now with this run of R. K. will the edits be the same as the first time as it was run during toonami in the afternoons or should I just tape/watch it again so I can play catch the edit? R. K. is a very watchable show but it doses help the catch as many episodes as possible. Now my Japanese history is a little weak but the idea of ten foot high fruitcakes with matching swords is somewhat difficult to grasp mentally.

Yes - this is a great anime. This is one I don't know much about - but for people who don't know much about Japanese history or who haven't seen Shinsengumi, this is set during the time of the Last Samurai.

Those scenes from the pics that ccwf took look like a style of anime that has not been in use lately.. where in certain stills and flashbacks.. pictures and picture-like stills are used rather than animation.

Yup. I believe the alternate style is used here for stills (sometimes with a little panning).

zYeah - they use it for stills too. For example, when an episode ends - or also when there's a lot of scenes going on.

RATS, RATS, RATS, RATS, Rat.... those bozo's over at CN have given us the big kiss-off again. Was there a site out there that had given even a heads-up about Kenshin's air time being given to DB-GT at least till April??
Is Kenshin coming back and when??
Oh Woe, Oh Woe.....The Pain, The Pain! Even a rumor would be a kindness.

Well, at least I-Channel responds to their e-mails (albeit late) but CN can't even give information? Wow.. what sad anime distributors we have.
