C-Drama: 满汉全席 (Emperor's Banquet/Man Han Chuen Xi)
classfloat-rightThis show replaced Mars on 3/23.
The lead actress is from Taiwan, but most of the other actors are from mainland China. This is a Chinese production.
According to Yesasia:
This is a remarkable legend of a dream come true, a never-faltering romance where true love prevails, as well as a imagined historical tale that tells a metaphor that cooking a remarkable feast is just as tricky, challenging and dangerous as managing a nation!
Famed for their comedic abilities, Hsu Zheng and Chang Ting stars as the odd couple Chang Dong Guan (Hsu Zheng) and Lu Mei Mei (Chang Ting). Chang Tieh Lin once again plays the role of Ching Dynasty Emperor Kang Xi. With delicious food that will make your mouth water, and comedy that will make you laugh till you weep, as well as a tense and suspenseful story line, this riotous drama Man3 Han4 Chuen2 Xi2 is set to capture your heart!
It says 33 episodes.
Another cooking show!!!! As if Dae Jang Geum isn't enough. Someone who does the Chinese programming at KSCI should pay attention!
Edit: Changed title to simplified characters. Added YesAsia.com link and image.

I don't like these types of dramas... but I will give it a chance. Qing emperor Kuangxi? This is from the...1700's then? Is the actor who does this the same guy who played Pu Yi in Last Empress?

Re: C-Drama: 滿漢全席 Emperor's Banquet (Man Han Chuen Xi)
goodness, and this series just finished releasing in Viet like 2 weeks ago! (23 viet tapes at about 55min-1hr/tape), at least it's a somewhat short drama if compared to the previously released ones...
I like Hsu Zheng but dunno if this is the right drama to air...funny thing is that this drama just began releasing in Cantonese, while the Viet version (from the same distributor) finished releasing much earlier.
I believe the Emperor of this series is the actor who did HZGG I and II.

Indeed. I wish we see more TW modern dramas like Mars.. not these historical dramas.. or if they show something historical it should be like Last Empress, cunning and exciting.. I hope this is.

Re: C-Drama: 滿漢全席 Emperor's Banquet (Man Han Chuen Xi)
Kang Xi emperor (1654-1722) had 55 children (35 sons and 20 daughters).
You can see portraits of him here:

This is a different genre of C-drama. It's historical, but most likely comedic. Since these types of dramas were never subtitled before, it should be interesting for new viewers of Chinese drama. At least you will hear perfect Mandarin spoken by these actors--chance to perfect your Mandarin!

That's very true. Thanks for the links, merela. So the Kang Xi emperor was a direct ancestor of Pu Yi and Pu Chieh?
Indeed. Mars' Mandarin isn't that clear sometimes (not to mention the sound quality).

I wish if they had to choose a drama to sub, it would be this: http://ontv.videoland.com.tw/channel/royal/

Yeah. I wish KSCI would ask fans what they think the next drama should be.
I presume we'll see an ad for this drama today after Mars?

Re: C-Drama: 滿漢全席 Emperor's Banquet (Man Han Chuen Xi)
I couldn't believe KSCI aired 3 minutes of the new show last night after the finale of Mars!!!!
I hope they repeat that 3 minutes today.
I don't know if I can tolerate 2 cooking-related dramas a day!

There was, in fact, such an ad.
