Need Help Using the Board?
Feel free to ask general questions on using the board here.
Questions needing long, detailed answers should be asked in a new topic (For example, “How Do I Type in Chinese/Japanese/Korean?”—there's a separate topic for that question.)

Re: Need Help Using the Board?
Why doesn't my computer show Japanese characters? After I erased everything off my computer, I don't have them anymore... it's O.K., I don't really mind, I just wanted to ask.

Well, you need a Japanese font (or Arial Unicode as a fallback if you have Office). If you've deleted all your Japanese fonts (or Arial Unicode), then you won't be able to see any Japanese.
You should be able to reinstall the appropriate Japanese language pack or whatsit to get that functionality back. (The exact procedure and thing to download depends on your versions of Windows and Office.)

Re: Need Help Using the Board?
If you want Japanese characters to show up for Internet Explorer or Firefox, here are the Microsoft links:
Japanese Characters
There should be a button on the right-hand size that says "Download." Just click it and it should start downloading immediately. The file size is about 2.5 megabytes.
Just in case you wanted Korean characters, here's the link for that.
Korean Characters
The "Download" button is on the right-hand side as well. The file size is about 1.94 megabytes.
sumobobby, I hope this was what you were looking for.

Re: Need Help Using the Board?
Could someone please a give an overview of what "photobucket" is and how it is used? (I notice that a lot of images posted on the board are in "photobucket." )

Photobucket is an image hosting website. What you do is set up an account and upload images you would like to be hosted by the website. You can set up a free account, but there's a limit to how much you can upload and there's also a bandwidth limit. You can also pay $25 for unlimited space and bandwidth limit for an entire year.

Re: Need Help Using the Board?
Thanks for the explanation, no rest. Sounds as though somebody came up with a good idea.
Let me ask one more thing just to make sure I'm clear on this. Does this mean that someone like me could open an account at photobucket, upload, say a picture (image) I have on my own computer, then I would be able to download and post it on CJK?
And if I wanted to post an image from a website like KBS or something, I could save the image (not the link) to my own computer, upload to photobucket, and post it on CJK, instead of putting a direct link to the KBS website in my CJK post?
Is using an image hosting website preferrable to linking directly back to another site, such as KBS? Especially from the point of view of the original website containing the image because they may not want all the "traffic" back to their website? And also because the image posted from a website like KBS may be deleted at some point, thus "disappearing" from a CJK post in which it may have been linked?
Just bouncing off of you if I am understanding this whole process accurately. Thanks for sharing your expertise, no rest.

You just use the image off the Photobucket.com site.classblockquoteAnd if I wanted to post an image from a website like KBS or something, I could save the image (not the link) to my own computer, upload to photobucket, and post it on CJK, instead of putting a direct link to the KBS website in my CJK post?Yes.classblockquoteIs using an image hosting website preferrable to linking directly back to another site, such as KBS? As antoher example, many of the extra smileys on this board were done by Smackdown5. He gave permission for Runboards to use copies of his smileys but not to just link to his smileys directly because of his limited bandwidth.
However, with a site like KBS, keep copyright limitations in mind. You can't just copy all the images from their site. However, U.S. fair use exception allows you to use a limited quantity of copyrighted content (including images) for the purpose of commentary, criticism, and parody. (For non-U.S. board members, note that fair use is definitely not the same in all countries.)
