There's many Japanese language textbooks out there, but I think most colleges and universities in the Southern California area use a textbook entitled Genki. There's two volumes—Volume 1 is usually used in first-year Japanese courses, while Volume 2 is studied in more intermediate courses. Though it's not the best book out there, most schools are using this as their main Japanese text. I found out a little while ago that Genki is actually going to be revised, and that the new edition (for Volume 1) will be released next month! Genki Revised Edition So, if anyone is planning on purchasing the Genki textbook, I would recommend waiting a month or two until the new edition is released. Hopefully they'll make some positive changes to the book! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hiroshi66)Mon, 17 Jan 2011 08:13:35 +0000 Re: Looking to learn Japanese(日本語)https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2045889,from=rss#post2045889https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2045889,from=rss#post2045889Welcome to 'Learn Japanese Free', a complete resource for learning Japanese online for free.nondisclosed_email@example.com (nicolelord2)Mon, 17 Jan 2011 05:05:41 +0000 Re: Looking to learn Japanese(日本語)https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2003640,from=rss#post2003640https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2003640,from=rss#post2003640 class blockquote bubu13 wrote: class blockquote Hiroshi66 wrote: Thanks for the site, ccwf, however, I wasn't familiar with the word you mentioned "kokuji". Yeah, I've usually heard of these refered to as 和製漢字 (wasei kanji) but I've never heard them refered to as kokuji before. But yeah, those are indeed characters that are only native to Japanese.
