Re:

I definitely miss Yonezawa ("Forensics Guy") as he was really the only one who shared some of the same hobbies or musical tastes as Ukyo. He was the last one left who Ukyo seemed to share some aspects of his personal life.
He's listed in the cast in DramaWiki. Maybe he's busy filming in another show and will return later in the season?

As for the episode, it's funny that if the con-woman didn't acquire the necklace, the the scammers might not have been caught if it wasn't for that link.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒 15 (Partners 15)

Dunedan, that's a good point! Come to think of it, as Ukyo pointed out, both the uncle and his niece would have probably lost their lives when the murderer (armed with a knife and ready to kill) broke into their home to retrieve the necklace. There were so many potential outcomes here.

I wonder if Forensics Guy will come back, although it sounds promising that he is listed on the DramaWiki page. I do remember that he and Ukyo started drifting apart, and I don't remember him getting along that well with Kaburagi last season. Perhaps there was a falling out that may be addressed later in the season?

Yonezawa must be as popular a character in Japan as he is among us USA fans of the show. Didn't he get his own feature film? I hope he will be back.

I think you're right, Ostadan. Yonezawa has been around since Season 1, and I suspect he has quite a following among Japanese fans, too. Out of all the supporting cast, he has the most character development - with the possible exception of Itami.

Yes, I seem to recall there being either a movie or a feature-length special about Yonezawa and some supporting characters, like Itami and Serizawa.

Maybe Yonezawa will be back for the mid-season special?

PARTNERS: THE MOVIE IV stars series lead Yutaka Mizutani as Detective Ukyo Sugishita, and Takashi Sorimachi as Wataru Kaburagi, Sugishita’s partner beginning with the show’s 14th season. The two are assisted by Takeru Kanbe (Mitsuhiro Oikawa), Sugishita’s former partner and close friend. This time, these “AIBOU” all-stars go up against their most difficult adversary of all time: a mysterious international crime group. The filmmakers promise a “painful” climax to the investigation…

I found this description but nothing else about the "painful climax."
I wonder if it means something happened to Yonezawa before Season 15?

Wow, thanks for sharing that information with us, Dunedan! That movie sequentially takes place before Season 15, so it could very well mean that something happened to Yonezawa (or at least to his job) in that movie.

At the same time, it is always a bad idea to include integral changes to the plot in a movie, since viewers of the drama on television don't always have access to watching the movies in theaters. However, it could be a good marketing ploy if a popular character like Yonezawa has something important happen to him in one of the movies.

Yonezawa does show up in the DramaWiki cast list, so I suppose we have to hang tight to see if he is a part of Season 15 in any way.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒 15 (Partners 15)

<EPISODE 5>

I really didn't have any idea as to who the culprit was in the murder of Mr. Artist. At first, I definitely suspected the corrupt broker, but then Mr. Blue Picasso became a bit suspicious, since he had been betrayed as a result of the whole affair and lost his wife, a ton of money, and his beloved art studio. Little did we know that the guy who had pretended to find the "Blue Picasso" painting was the one who had committed the murder. I didn't suspect that in a million years! There were so many players that the writers kept us in the dark until pretty much the very end. The hour went by so quickly.

Isn't it ironic that the murderer was tormented in the same way he tormented Mr. Artist in the final weeks of his life? Mr. Artist couldn't get a moment's peace because he didn't want the truth about the fake Blue Picasso painting to be revealed. Now, the murderer couldn't rest as well - haunted by the guilt of his treachery and vile behavior. What goes around, comes around.

The nasty broker got what he deserved, as well. For someone so obsessed with money, he was arrested for committing fraud upon plotting an escape from the country. I'm sure lots of other crimes he has committed in the past (financial-related) will be unearthed, as well.

It was somewhat comforting to learn that Mr. Blue Picasso and Ms. Curator were completely innocent - and vindicated, too. I hope Ms. Curator will help Mr. Blue Picasso get over the heartbreak he experienced upon losing his gallery eight years before, and also to rebuild his life. Now that the truth about the Blue Picasso is out in the open, and all has been revealed, maybe Mr. Blue Picasso (with the help of Ms. Curator) can even leave the retirement facility?

This episode had lots of classic Ukyo! His exaggerated facial expressions, or allowing the person he is questioning to leave the room only to stop them for one last question (with a loud Ah! exclamation), reminded me of Ukyo of seasons past. I think that Ukyo starts to act more like himself when he begins to feel more comfortable around his partners. Kaburagi is starting to come into his own as a full-fledged member of Special Missions, so maybe that's what is happening now.

As an aside, the ocean view from the retirement facility sure was gorgeous, wasn't it!?

Episode 6 airs later tonight. This season has been great so far!

Re: J-Drama: 相棒 15 (Partners 15)

<EPISODE 6>

This was my favorite episode so far of the season. It kept my attention through the entire hour and I was shocked to see that an entire hour had gone by at the end of it!

Ukyo and Kaburagi getting involved with Ms. Manga seemed a bit random and sudden, but I guess the writers needed a fast way to tie them into a potentially unrelated case that isn't as serious as the usual homicides or fraud cases we see.

My first theory was that Ms. Manga was suffering from schizophrenia, and that all these characters (such as the older couple who frequented the apartment every night) were a figment of her imagination, or maybe even characters in one of the manga she was writing. Turns out it was all real! Yes, she was experiencing some hallucinations and visions, but these were probably brought about as a result of fatigue and sleeplessness. After all, her neighbors were keeping her awake as a way to get rid of her from the apartment so they could access the hidden stash of money.

So, I started thinking that Ms. Manga was suffering from schizophrenia, but it ended up turning into a very elaborate case of fraud and spending stolen money!

Another big surprise was the fact that Manager had spent most of the money. It made sense that he was guilty of it. Out of all the parties involved (even the scary looking neighbor!) he seemed to be the most slimy and weird. So, I could see him betraying his comrades for the almighty dollar (or yen, in this case).

Finally, I was under the impression that the young woman who stole the money in the first place had passed on, but it turns out she's hospitalized and is still alive! Wow. Who knew. I presume she'll be arrested for committing the crime of embezzling the money? Maybe we saw her in a police hospital during the final scene.

Most of all, I was relieved and happy for Ms. Manga. She made a new friend, and hopefully her Ukyo/Kaburagi manga will sell. I got a kick out of that at the end. This scary incident might have been her big break!

6 episodes in and not even one mention of Forensics Guy. I guess Creepy Cyber Guy has largely replaced him...

Episode 7 airs next week!

I liked this episode very much. It kept me guessing how all the characters tied together. The manga featuring our intrepid duo was a nice touch in the concluding scene.

<EPISODE 7>

Wow, the ending of this episode gave me chills! The writers used a similar technique that they employed in Episode 6, except this time, it took me more by surprise. Wow.

I felt so sorry for the mother. At first, I was taken aback. Was there a third child who had been kidnapped and had been murdered? Perhaps she had pretended that this third child's dead body was that of her son, in order to continue acting as an accomplice to the kidnapper. It would make sense, since her son was really safe and sound in his room - at home. No, it turns out she wasn't even involved in the kidnapping (as I originally thought, and as the writers were trying to trick us into thinking) but was rather experiencing schizophrenic hallucinations as a result of the trauma of losing her son.

Looking back, it makes sense that those interactions between the mother and her son were all hallucinations. Remember how all the scenes took place in the dark? Even if the son was hiding in his room, his windows didn't face the front of the apartment, and I'm sure the mother would have let her son have the lights on in his room during the long hours he was home during the day. Nobody was in the room - the poor woman was experiencing hallucinations and so not only were the lights turned off, but the snacks/foods she brought for her son were left unopened. Nobody was there to open them. When I realized that at the end, it really took me by surprise!

The writers have gotten better and better at making these plots unpredictable. You'd think that after 15 seasons, we'd have figured out their tricks by now, but this ending really came out of left field.

The woman didn't commit any crimes, but I hope she receives treatment for her condition. This must have taken such a toll on her emotionally and physically. As far as the kidnapper and his minions, I hope they are put away for a long, long time. What a shock that the police officer was one of the leakers, too!

Each episode seems to outdo the previous one this season. I really think this has turned out to be one of the best seasons yet - but then again, I find myself saying that with every new season of Partners! They are doing an excellent job.

Episode 8 airs on Sunday! We must be getting close to the mid-season special.
