Uee was wonderful, as was that little girl. I guess we were left knowing she would most likely die, but it could be a year, more, or maybe less. But whatever time she had left, he was going to make it full of love and happiness. Gotta give it to him. He gave his all to her. Glad his mother decided to support them. Once she stopped drinking, took a good look at her life, got a new lease on life (surgery), she became a wonderful person. The dad. OMG, he never would give in. Even to the last he tried to control Ji Hoon's future. Yep, he was left all alone with his precious business and big house. Really was a good watch!! I cried through the entire last episode. lolnondisclosed_email@example.com (Nelli33)Tue, 07 Jun 2016 15:03:21 +0000 Re: K-Drama: 결혼계약 (Marriage Contract)https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069374,from=rss#post2069374https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069374,from=rss#post2069374Loved the ending. The best day of Ji-hoon's life? "Now." Beautiful. And he finally was able to say "I love you." Over and over again. How peaceful and light he made their surroundings, from their apartment to Eun-sung's kittens to everything they were doing in each moment they could all be together as a family. The coupling of Ji-hoon's manager with Hye-soo's best friend was also cute to see. That poor guy is forever doomed to a life of being controlled and pushed around—but that seems to be where he is happiest. He always proved himself to be a loyal friend and supporter to those he loved. Well, no KDR for Ji-hoon's father! He surely found himself in a miserable, lonely condition, separated (by his own doing) from any meaningful human relationship. Too bad that even in the depths he couldn't put aside his pride and stubbornness. Ji-hoon certainly gave Dad more than enough leeway to reconciliation between the two without losing face, but Dad just couldn't see it—or want it, apparently. One of the saddest lines I've ever heard was the wife saying she is leaving and "will come back after you die." As for Eun-sung, I'm sure she would grow up as a very much-loved person, as her mother emphasized to her. She was sincerely loved by Ji-hoon (her "dad"), Ji-hoon's mother, Hye-soo's mother-in-law, the "manager" and his love interest (Hye-soo's faithful friend), and others in that extended family circle. I enjoyed the relationships in this drama. The acting was phenomenal, especially by Uee and the little girl actress. LSJ was excellent, too, and I thought his was both a perfect counterpart character-wise, and a good combination with Uee as actors. (Uee seemed to have lost a significant amount of weight for the later portions of the drama. I hope she didn't compromise her health, as have some other actors.)nondisclosed_email@example.com (nchristi)Mon, 06 Jun 2016 17:28:38 +0000 Re:https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069356,from=rss#post2069356https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069356,from=rss#post2069356Well, one thing about this one... it's getting us all talking! lol I think I'm so hooked because I'm wondering if the LSJ character will become dad to the little girl if Hyesoo dies. I don't really know why they all ruffled my feathers so much. I agree with your view as well as holding on to my own. I think really I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of get up and go from Ji Hoon. It took him so long to stand and deliver real emotion and when he finally did, it was almost too late to have a real effect as far as his family were concerned. That father and brother would never ever become people with a heart. It was a dark story from the beginning and I really did wonder how they would get it to an ending that would be acceptable. I guess, my friend, the end is still blowing in the wind..... The central cluster, however, isn't a dark story to me. In fact, I think it is encouraging. Most people have suffered greatly in their lives—some more than others. This drama simply reflects real-life tragedy that can also include happiness and rest, even if it is temporary or short lived. So far, there has been a reconciliation of core characters that is forming a cluster of a family which will be needed by all involved, whether Hye-Soo survives or not. I'm happy to see Hye-Soo draw close to her MIL (Ri-nah's bio-grandmother),and her childhood friend Joo-Yeon, and to Ji-Hoon and his bio-mom. All of them will need each other regardless of what happens to Hye-Soo. All of them can trust and depend on one another. If Hye-Soo survives, it will be even better for this core cluster of potential family.  nondisclosed_email@example.com (nchristi)Sun, 29 May 2016 17:42:55 +0000 Re: This dramahttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069335,from=rss#post2069335https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069335,from=rss#post2069335This latest episode is starting to make me feel that the writers have unpleasant personalities. There really is not one happy adult in this drama. Our ?hero? can not even utter the word love now that his heart is full of emotion. Atho she asks what he thinks he still can not utter the word. It really is a very dark story. He has a brother who is married. I think older. Saw a small video of LSJ with his niece who looks about fourteen. He seemed comfortable with her. The family is wealthy and in business which is carried on by older brother. Father died some years ago. Mother and sister there still. That is why I can't understand his apparent coldness and real awkward behavior in real life appearances. I definitely find it difficult to separate his real persona from the drama character this time.nondisclosed_email@example.com (brad6)Sat, 28 May 2016 12:23:04 +0000 Re:https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069329,from=rss#post2069329https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069329,from=rss#post2069329Love Uee in this. She's so convincing in this part. Must still have a tad bit of affection for LSJ (somewhere deep deep inside my heart) because I started watching Yi San again. Love him in that. Loved him in Lovers. Just not feeling it from him in this one. But I still like the story and of him trying so hard to hang on to the woman he loves. Seems like (in this) he really never loved anyone and was always trying to please his father. Now he's thinking for himself and making his own decisions. So his desperate actions at trying to capture her heart is really pitiful and I feel sorry for the character. LOL, that brother is definitely challenged in the smarts dept. He acts like a little child, and is abusive to women. He's disgusting. And the father is just as bad, demanding that his family do exactly what he commands. Him and the first son are the same... using money and position to bully others. LSJ has been on so many reality type shows lately. He seems uncomfortable in all of them. I get the feeling he's trying to get back on top and making himself visible any way he can. I wonder if he's an only child? He doesn't seem at ease with anyone to me. Him in Yi San..... drool nondisclosed_email@example.com (Nelli33)Fri, 27 May 2016 14:23:20 +0000 Re: K-Drama: 결혼계약 (Marriage Contract)https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069318,from=rss#post2069318https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069318,from=rss#post2069318I'm enjoying the drama itself and the way LSJ is portraying his character. It seems very realistic to me for a mid-aged man whose has never had any close interpersonal relationships with anyone. He has grown up being an outsider trying to cope with a step-mother who hates him for being her unfaithful husband's son with his mistress. LSJ is the father's firstborn, while step-mom has a son of her own, whom she wants to inherit everything and carry on the family name. Perhaps worse is that the father did not want to acknowledge LSJ—the boy was forced upon his Dad at age 12 by the bio-mom because she couldn't take care of him financially or physically. LSJ is very intelligent and competent, while his half-brother is an intelligence-challenged guy in nearly every aspect of life. The father prefers LSJ as his son, but unfortunately there is his mother, Dad's ex-mistress, to whom LSJ is faithful and loving (to the extent his damaged personality allows him). The way to act out LSJ's abandonment/unloved issues, he showers himself with expensive cars, women, etc. I love the relationship between LSJ and Uee's young daughter. He really cares for her in his heart, but is not familiar with how to act or treat people... including children. He finally acknowledges his love for Uee and proposes to marry her. It was sad to see him heartbroken and so desperate at her refusal, practically begging her to accept him, taking all blame on his own shoulders—which isn't the reason Uee is saying 'no'. She would say 'yes', if she didn't have a brain tumor threatening her life. An aside, Uee is 28, while LSJ is 45. I think they look good together even with the age difference. Uee has really grown up and blossomed into a very accomplished actress. Her stability and low-keyness are a good match for LSJ's character. Currently, this is one of my favorite dramas. nondisclosed_email@example.com (nchristi)Mon, 23 May 2016 18:59:47 +0000 Re: LSJhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069314,from=rss#post2069314https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2069314,from=rss#post2069314Hi Nelli, I agree with you that he seems out of place now when he has to play any kind of romantic scene. I started a re-watch online of Yi San. LSJ seems so much more relaxed and easy with relationships in that one. The relationship between LSJ and Uee's characters is very compelling. There's a charisma about them together that makes me look forward to each episode. I haven't felt this "draw" from any romantic K-drama for quite a long time. Then again, the cast is first rate, as is the writing. The little girl together with LSJ is also quite electric. She is a wonderful little actor and together she and LSJ naturally emit sparks of their own! I mentioned it before, but I'm really impressed with Uee's performance in this one. She has become a first-rate actor. The depth of her desperate, emotional scenes is quite wonderful to behold. I had loved him so much in Lovers and then when him and Kim Jung Eun had become a couple (I heard she wouldn't go out with him during filming and he wouldn't leave her alone but she agreed after the show was completed). Anyway, when I heard they had broken up and she was totally blindsided by him dumping her he pretty much went down the drain for me. I have seen him on interviews where they could barely get him to talk. He came off as very arrogant and rude. He seems to have a super high opinion of himself. Anyway, a lot of people were disappointed in him and he didn't do much for some years. I had heard that some of his family and some of KJE family were very close, and then very happy when the two hooked up. Must have been uncomfortable for them all after. I think it's OK to end a relationship that you no longer want but I think people were upset at the way he did it. I watched (ahead) an episode and it did seem interesting to me. He was interacting with the little girl (so adorable). But to me, he seemed very uncomfortable with a child. Even though he was acting, I don't see him as being a 'kid' kinda guy. I understand all your feelings posted above! I, too, have some not so pleasant memories of Lee Seo Jin in real life. But I've always liked how he plays the aloof, snooty, coldish, distant type. My old memories have faded pretty much and I haven't seen any interviews with him for a long time. The best redeeming part in Lee Seo Jin's character in this drama is that he is an illegitimate son in a very rich family, coming to live with his bio-father at age 12, when his mother couldn't take care of him adequately. His life has been enormously difficult as the "outsider" in the family—not to mention his mother is the ex-mistress and an embarrassing alcoholic to the rich family's "proper" image. (And wouldn't you know, the rich wife is played by "Nara"! How perfect is that!} On other characters, I'm with you Josephinec01, about the little girl playing Uee's daughter. She is so charismatic and cute. Not to mention that she hates Han Ji Hoon (Lee Seo Jin) and gives him fits—disrespect he has probably never experienced before. Then there is Uee (as Hye Soo). She has really grown up not only physically but also in her acting skills. She is giving an A+ performance in this role. I am very impressed by her emotional keeness in portraying Hyesoo. Then there is Lee Whee-Hyang, who plays Jihoon's alcoholic mother. She is another of my all-time favorite actors. She's not only excellent but she ranks up there near the top of the list of beauties in my book—even in her advancing years. I could go on about this wonderful cast (such as the main chef, Uee's brother, et al), but I'll save all that for another time. It's also so nice to see all of you participating in this discussion. I'll try to get the better dramas posted up to make it easier for all of you. Also, please do send me a PM, or mention it in a post somewhere, if there are other K-dramas you would particularly like to see. Reason being that I have been watching him in a reality show where he looks older and heavier and very much the bored star in real life. I was rather disappointed as I watched the show. In person he is not so attractive it would seem. Then in this drama he looks so thin and smart but he is still the cynical rich kid type. I was not sure it was him at first.
