Ji-Hoon (Lee Seo-Jin) has a cynical personality due to his family background. Even though he comes from a rich family, his mother had an affair with a married man and they had Ji-Hoon. From a young age, he became separated from his mother and began to live with his father's family. One day, he learns that his mother has a liver disease and she doesn't have much time left to live. Her only hope is to get a liver transplant. Ji-Hoon becomes desperate. At that time, he meets Hye-Soo (Uee) and her daughter Eun-Sung (Shin Rin-Ah).
Hye-Soo has lived alone with her daughter Eun-Sung after her husband's death. She is constantly hounded by loan sharks due to her late husband's debt. Hye-Soo begins to work at the restaurant run by Ji-Hoon. She learns that she has a brain tumor and she needs money for her daughter after she passes away. Hye-Soo overhears from Ji-Hoon that he is looking for a liver donor for his mother. To make it happen legally, Ji-Hoon plans to marry the donor. Hye-Soo insists to Ji-Hoon that she wants to be the donor. Ji-Hoon, unaware of Hye-Soo's brain tumor, accepts her offer and they prepare a marriage contract.

Re: I am watching this one and it seems interesting. Actually I first saw Lee Seo Jin and was not sure that it was him. Reason being that I have been watching him in a reality show where he looks older and heavier and very much the bored star in real life. I was rather disappointed as I watched the show. In person he is not so attractive it would seem. Then in this drama he looks so thin and smart but he is still the cynical rich kid type. I was not sure it was him at first. I used to like him very much but I am not so sure these days He comes from a wealthy family and knows the business world and acting seems more like a hobby to him but that is only my opinion.
The drama seems interesting from the story line so I will keep on watching for a while.
Re: I've seen him in an interview where he was so rude I was embarrassed for the girl doing the interview. I agree that acting is probably a hobby for him. And yet, when I see him as part of a cast I'll watch despite him. He's just an okay actor, so not a big draw for me. He lost his shine way back when he dumped Kim Jung Eun in the most callous way. Not that he did it, but how he did it. Not a person worth my attention. Maybe I won't watch this.

Re: K-Drama: 결혼계약 (Marriage Contract) LOL! I understand all your feelings posted above! I, too, have some not so pleasant memories of Lee Seo Jin in real life. But I've always liked how he plays the aloof, snooty, coldish, distant type. My old memories have faded pretty much and I haven't seen any interviews with him for a long time.
The best redeeming part in Lee Seo Jin's character in this drama is that he is an illegitimate son in a very rich family, coming to live with his bio-father at age 12, when his mother couldn't take care of him adequately. His life has been enormously difficult as the "outsider" in the family—not to mention his mother is the ex-mistress and an embarrassing alcoholic to the rich family's "proper" image. (And wouldn't you know, the rich wife is played by "Nara"! How perfect is that!}
On other characters, I'm with you Josephinec01, about the little girl playing Uee's daughter. She is so charismatic and cute. Not to mention that she hates Han Ji Hoon (Lee Seo Jin) and gives him fits—disrespect he has probably never experienced before.
Then there is Uee (as Hye Soo). She has really grown up not only physically but also in her acting skills. She is giving an A+ performance in this role. I am very impressed by her emotional keeness in portraying Hyesoo.
Then there is Lee Whee-Hyang, who plays Jihoon's alcoholic mother. She is another of my all-time favorite actors. She's not only excellent but she ranks up there near the top of the list of beauties in my book—even in her advancing years.
I could go on about this wonderful cast (such as the main chef, Uee's brother, et al), but I'll save all that for another time.
It's also so nice to see all of you participating in this discussion. I'll try to get the better dramas posted up to make it easier for all of you. Also, please do send me a PM, or mention it in a post somewhere, if there are other K-dramas you would particularly like to see. It won't be perfect, but I'll do what I can.
Re: I think that Kim Jung Eun received a great shock when Seo Jin was so callous in his treatment. She used to act in many dramas but I have only seen her once since that time. He surely has not been brought up to treat people properly in life.
Re: I watched episodes 1 and 2 and I think I'll watch this one. The storyline is decent. Good cast. The little girl is awesome. Mostly I love the kids in these dramas and this little girl is no exception, adorable and a good little actress.
You're right about Uee, nchristi, she's definitely grown as an actress. She's doing a really good job. I'm impressed. And Nara, who's meaner than Nara?
I'll stick around with this one.
