Re: J-Drama: 相棒 14 (Partners 14)

<FINAL EPISODE> (#20)

It is a bit surreal that this will be the final season of Partners for a long while. I read somewhere that Season 15 will start airing in Japan later this year, but alas, who knows when we will see it here. emoticon

The case was excellent and kept me on the edge of my seat for the whole two hours. I am so glad UTB at least decided to air the season finale in one sitting instead of breaking it up into two or even three parts like they used to do in seasons past. The story flows so much better, and I actually remember what happened instead of having to remind myself of the previous week's plot and take some time to get 'back into' the story.

With so much terrorism going on around the world, it makes sense that the writers of Partners would use that as a plot to finish the season with. Watching the psychopath shoot those poor police officers in cold blood during their training session was frankly disturbing to watch. I was hoping we wouldn't see any flashbacks of that scene, but was disappointed when we saw the flashback scene where his junior partner took over the massacre. How warped was that facial expression of his when he smiled and started shooting? I hope he rots in prison.

Good for Ukyo who raised his voice and gave him the stare of death after telling him that there is no such thing as a "proper" terrorist act. Such brutal and despicable acts can never be "proper."

Ukyo sure knows how to get under people's skins, though! Potential suspects are usually irritated by Ukyo's nosiness, poking, and prodding during investigations, but the junior partner sure was getting visibly irritated every single time Ukyo uttered a word out of his mouth. Good. I hope Ukyo thoroughly ruined his final days of freedom before being arrested.

Kaburagi's playboy past is coming to light, isn't it!? Looks like he has had relationships with quite a few women. No wonder Sachiko is staying far away from him - good for her!

Speaking of Kaburagi, looks like he got the official offer to join the Metropolitan Police. Now he can be Ukyo's partner and a police officer in his own right - he is no longer the "guest" anymore. This is a great way to end Season 14, and I guess it confirms that Kaburagi will be back for Season 15.

By the way, does Mr. Forensics Guy leaving to become a teacher at the police academy mean that he is leaving the show!? I thought it was mentioned by him (to Ukyo) that he intends to only teach temporarily at the police academy, and wants to come back to headquarters later on. How long is "temporarily", though? Is this a way to write Mr. Forensics Guy out of the show? I guess we'll find out next season. If he's not around, who will be the one to give Ukyo and Kaburagi all these leads!?

Kai's father is the new Onoda when it comes down to covering for Ukyo and saving him from banishment. Ukyo was going to be fired this time for sure, but Kai-Dad managed to get him off with just a pay cut. Even Mr. Pill Eater wasn't going to go easy on Ukyo this time.

Excellent episode and an outstanding end to an outstanding season. I think Season 14 was one of the best seasons yet. I do hope UTB has good ratings on 18.1 and will consider adding an extra hour of programming in the future, so that we do see Season 15... emoticon

The preview is out for the first episode of Aibou S15:

But why is the actor from S14 episode 13 here? Making a return?

I hope so! He's the one who has given Aibou a whole new life. The producers hit on a really charismatic duo this time. If I ever get to see Partners again, I hope he will be Ukyo's sidekick.

Re: J-Drama: 相棒 14 (Partners 14)

I guess Season 15 is ready. I feel somewhat sad that we won't be seeing it here, at least for the time being. What a relief that Kaburagi is back, and also that we are seeing the return of the Nakama Yukie character. I had wanted her to be Ukyo's partner after the departure of Kai from the show, but we got Kaburagi instead - which turned out to be just fine! I'm glad she is making a cameo, though.

Yes, the anti-police video camera guy is back! I found him to be a fascinating character, too. i'm not sure if he is going to be a recurring character, but it would sure be nice if he was. He really got under everyone's skin!

I hope UTB airs this at some point. Maybe they can add another hour of programming to their new LA-18 programming block?

Everyone, did you see that there is a new "PARTNERS: THE MOVIE IV (2017)" due out February 11, 2017 in Japan! Check link in asianwiki entry for actor Mizutani; probably other links (in English) if searched more. I wish Japanese films had a venue in L.A. like the Koreans have CGV Cinemas in Koreatown, sigh.

Thanks for the info, Mile Irene! I was aware that Season 15 is airing in Japan, but I hadn't heard about the film. I know Partners has had feature-length films before, but i haven't seen any of them. If I remember correctly, there was even a movie from a few years ago, back when Kaito was still around, where Kanbe made a cameo appearance, too.

UTB never aired these movies back when they were still on 18.2. I wish they did!

Update: Narimiya’s letter was sent last December 8, 2016 via fax:

引用 (quote):

I am aware that I was the cause of everything that has happened. I was tricked by several people and was betrayed by a friend whom I trusted with all my heart.

In this kind of career, there are things such as sexuality which the people [from this industry] do not want to expose, I cannot express enough fear, despair, and anxiety which continue to crush me. This is because of the wrong information which is spreading until now.

I want to disappear from the entertainment world.

Continuing my work in the entertainment industry might cause further inconveniences to other people. There is no way but to leave the industry as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for everyone who was involved in making me grow as an actor as well as those who supported me.

For the fans who cheered on me, I would like to apologize in leaving [the industry] this way.

I am really sorry. At the same time, thank you very much.

December 8, 2016

Narimiya Hiroki

This is heartbreaking, and I feel sorry for Hiroki Narimiya. These are extremely serious allegations. Even if they are not true, we know how powerful the netizens can be when it comes to bad publicity, and their backlash can be enough to destroy Hiroki's career.

I will miss our "Kaito" and hope he is able to move on from this and put his life back together.

Re: Partners will be back

I commented on the UTB Facebook site, and received a reply. Partners will be aired after Hanasaki Mai 2 finishes airing.

This could mean that Partners may start on May 21. Hanasaki Mai 2 has 11 episodes. If none of the remaining 10 episodes are split into two parts, and if no weeks are skipped, HM2 should end on May 14.

The schedule will be expanded on April 2 to now include two hours, from 6pm - 8pm. A new drama will begin at 6pm on April 2.
