Regarding the snowstorm in New York City
We came to US in 1947 if memory is correct. We saw an amazing snowfall and since we were living in the Hotel Seville on Madison Avenue and 28th St. we trudged over to Fifth Ave, and there was a vision of white and total silence. No traffic or cars except the ones under huge mounds of snow. nothing moved except a few people who were skiing along the middle of the avenue and I saw one man who wore snow shoes and he was making his way south also. We were quite taken by this because we never had snow like this in England. It was really a winter wonderland. The snow must have been three feet deep at least and windn;own into higher drifts. The silence was most impressive.

Re: Regarding the snowstorm in New York City
Thank you so much for sharing your fascinating experiences with us, Peg-san! Wow. I was going to look up pictures of the 1947 snowstorm, but your eyewitness account and description was so detailed that I didn't even have to!
Great post.
