Re: mama-boy

The over-the-top MIL has me laughing until it hurts, the actress is great. The door-mat-main-girl character is a done freakin' enuf already! The Joo ri character is also typical, second string that won't give up. Same actress played same role in I'll Give You Everything. This actress reminds me of the one that play Jinju in Oh Jayrong. Same 1-plane face with flawless skin and with only one "blank" expression. Eugene is pretty as always. Main male actors are quite handsome.

All the family members and their scheming set against the love couples make this fun to watch.

Couldn't wait for weekly showings so have been watching 1/4 and 4/4 of 4-segment episodes, currently at 37 of the 45 posted episodes. FINALLY, stuff starts happening. How many episodes for this series? If it is 50, the series is truly rear-loaded.

Re:

The new bride should be a perfect fit for Mama's Boy. She isn't going to stand for MIL pushing her around. Maybe it'll work out for them.

Mama's Boy made me feel sorry for him. He seems to love Chawon so much. Too bad he let his mother ruin their lives.

However, I like Chawon with Seyong. They seem pretty compatible. But Juri is her mother's daughter so we know we're in for some big trouble from her!

Chawon's dad and Choonhee are so cute. He's so backwards but he's also so honest and true. So cute when he went to the train station and was so happy she didn't leave that he picked her up and twirled her around. OMG if ever a couple really needed each other, these two do!

I used to not like rooftop man but now I think he's a hoot. He's earned that long tailed suit!!! lol

Well I skipped all the eps and watched the finale. Boy was it a blast. It might not make me watch all the episodes that I haven't watched yet (Just the 1st 15 min of the 1st eps before I gave up)

Though if I really want to watch something so (argh it is so hard to even describe) and I have nothing better to do or watch I might just give it a try.

Still congrats and good luck to all of you that have managed to stick this long with this show. I commend you all on your patience and dedication.

Like I said to each their own. emoticon

Wow, new bride is giving Mama Boy's mother just what she deserves! Chawon was too soft and obedient and MIL could get away with beating her down physically and emotionally. New bride won't put up with MIL and she'll give as good as she gets.

Seyeong's mother promised not to stop him from choosing the woman he wants but there she is, getting involved and getting violent with Chawon! I wish Seyeong would pack up and move out. She lost him once before because of her behavior and it looks like she didn't learn anything. I can't wait for her to lose her 'mother title' to Choonhee!

Re:

I figured out early that she stole her son. Otherwise why would she care where Choonhee lived? I'm loving this drama. Its one of my favorites right now.

Park Won Suk is so fabulous in this. She hits the mark every time. She knows how to lose all restraint and go way over the top with this character. She makes it really work. I love/hate her in this. She's awesome!

Re: K-Drama:백년의 유산 (Hundred Year Inheritance)

I was watching the MBCD weekly entertainment show earlier this week (no e-subs), and they featured the actress playing the outrageous MIL, Ms. Bhang. It was really interesting even though I couldn't understand the conversation. This actress lives in a beautiful, mountainous area overlooking the ocean. I was struck by how down to earth she is in private life, how full of life and laughter, and so forth. The interview was held on an outside deck away from the house, one in which the sunrises and sunsets, or just the ocean view, trees and breezes make a wonderful place to have tea or lunch with friends, or by oneself.

She also has a coffee shop on the street level. The sign said "Coffee & Gossip," or something like that. Warmly trendy inside, with large, framed posters of the actress (Park Won-Suk) tastefully hung here and there. Quite an inviting looking café.

Anyway, it seems she is quite popular in Korea, especially as this character. Last night I found myself laughing at the exchanges with her son, Mama's Boy. They are both funny, but she is so over the top in a stylized way that I have to laugh at the scenes where she finds herself powerless and frustrated.

It was also funny watching her expressions when the other MIL presents a pre-nuptial agreement for them to sign, which they rebel against. But when Mama's Boy leaves the room, the other old fox entices his mother to sign by making a secret agreement to sell Mean Mom's business products on the home shopping network, which she has influence over. Mean Mom can't say "no" to big profits!

It was also a shock that Mrs. In-Law brings up the fact that Mama's Boy has never consummated the marriage with her daughter, nor have they filed a marriage document with the authorities, so this is an appropriate time for a pre-nup agreement to be made. What is funny is that besides financial terms, Mama's Boy will be forced legally to do his husbandly "duty" at least once a week. LOL! What a mess.

I don't know what's going to happen with this marriage. The new bride really is a nut case. When I saw her eating breakfast holding her dog in one arm and chopsticks in the other, I couldn't believe it. (I wonder how Doggy is going to react to Mama's Boy getting it on with his master! That could be a very crowded bed...)

As for Seyoon and Chaewon, I can't believe that he so easily branded her as a person seeking and accepting bribes. It really doesn't fit his character at all. He's such a sensible, serious type executive, I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't have talked out the bribery misunderstandings, etc., directly with her instead of believing others. But that would have eliminated the long working out and reconciliation process the audience will enjoy seeing.

Glad to see Granny giving her approval to Hyodong & Choonhee's marriage. Too bad Granny invited herself along, making herself Choonhee's "mother" and taking over the wedding plans: dress, apartment, dishes, etc. What a relief that by the time Choohee blew her stack over it and walked out of the gown shop, Granny realizes her error and tells Hyodong she shouldn't have come along and will butt out of Choonhee's wedding plans.

Looks like we have a new character entering the fray. Dohee's son Seul-Hong shows up unexpectedly from the States... guess he finished his education (or quit). The grandparents are crazy about him, seeing him as the heir to the family noodles. This bothers Kangsook, the SIL who has a young son and wants him to be the heir and most favored by the grandparents. Kangsook tells her son to thwart all of Seul-Hong's actions. The kid is savvy and tells his mother not to worry, he will ruin everything for Seul-Hong.

On to tonight...

Re: K-Drama:백년의 유산 (Hundred Year Inheritance)

Things are heating up on this show—if that's possible. LOL! I can't get over poor Cholkyo still loving Chaewon so much and still planning on reconciling with her. I feel sorry for the guy.

He and his mother are such a comedy of errors. He has never registered his marriage to the new wife on purpose, so that he can go back to Chaewon. But Mom comes along and does him a big favor and goes and files it herself. Even the way they are dressing Chulkyo is so funny. This is a great role for this actor. I love watching him and his mother going through all their antics. Too funny. On the other side of this coin, there are some mega-nasty characters in this drama, including Cholkyo's new wife.

How ironic that it is Cholkyo himself who unknowingly reveals to Seyoon that Chaewon wouldn't accept the $5M from her MIL, that she's not interested in money. Seyoon also overhears the evil Juri threatening and getting a little physical with Chaewon in the company kitchen. So, now he knows he was completely wrong about Chaewon and wants to get her back. But Juri has other plans to sabotage Chaewon's big food demo with Seyoon. Juri also anonymously sends a letter charging Chaewon with bribery. The episode ends with Seyoon calling Juri into his office, holding up her letter, and asking her about it. Gulp!

Hyodong & Choohee get married. The big surprise (and drama first?) is that Choohee arranges a double ceremony including the grandparents. Since Granny never had a nice wedding, and since it is their 60th anniversary, Choohee has Granny fully adorned in a white wedding gown, veil, professional make-up—the whole nine yards. Gramps is not let in on the secret, though. (He probably would have ruined the whole thing if he knew beforehand.) Granny is walked down the aisle by Hyodong, who then gives her hand to Gramps at the platform. Kang Jin (the singer) is the wedding MC and gives some touching comments on the grandparents. This, plus seeing how beautiful his "bride" looks, softens up Gramps and instead of being grumpy, he looks rather touched. This was a very nice touch to yet another wedding.

The worst part was Hyodong's recurring irritable bowel problems. As they're about to leave for the airport/honeymoon, Hyodong gets repeated attacks and has to stop at restrooms—6 all together. Of course, they miss their flight and return home for their first night. The two Cinderella SILs (ugly step-sisters) criticize everything, as usual and try to ruin all they can. The next morning Choohee comes out in hanbok. They mock her for that, too. But Choohee tells them once again that she is their elder and the ranking DIL so they'd better change their ways if they don't want their lives to be miserable.

What's even better is that Choohee is the apple of Granny's eye. She loves everything about her, taking great delight in her new daughter, much to the chagrin of the two clucking hens.

The relationship between Kang Jin (singer) and Kiok seems to be warming up. Ever since she realized that he is the famous tenor who saved her at a recital when she was 19 or so, she looks at him differently. He was her hero since that recital, the man she loved most. She sees him as having gotten old and it saddens her, but she seems to deeply care for him, too. Of course, his spirts are greatly benefiting from her constant approval and her belief and support of him as a man.

This is a wonderful drama that I'm enjoying more and more each week. Onward to tonight!

There is so much going on in this drama. I love the craziness of the scenes between Mad MIL and her son. It almost makes me feel sorry for him. However he is such a clueless person and totally impossible when it comes to forgetting his first wife. He can't think of losing her ever. I agree that his present wife is a strange woman. I can't quite make up my ind if she likes him really or if she is just using him to get away from her own mother.
There will by dirty work at the crossroads with Chaewon being ill used once more by her former sister in law. what a dreadful person that girl is. I could not quite understand why Seyoon agreed to be engaged to her. How will he manage to free himself from this situation. I wonder.

The plot thickens !

nchristi,
I have to take this opportunity to tell you that I sent you a PM but I don't think it went safely. I seem to have such trouble with this system when it comes to replies and then if things go wrong I can't even read what I wrote. they don't put any place to see my own message. Sorry nchristi. I do understand that particular item about which we spoke however. will surely do what you have suggested. I will try to PM you later once again. sorry.

This is a really enjoyable drama to watch. Also enjoying all the 'side stories/couples'. The old singer and young daughter of the noodle house turn out to be a pretty good fit. She adores him and he wants to be adored. He felt guilty because she is so much younger but he can't stop himself from being attracted to her. Cute couple.

I also thought it ironic that Cheolgyu unwittingly gave Seyoon a clearer picture of Chawon. Cheolgyu is not really capable of conniving like his mother and sister so he is all truth. He knows how good Chawon is and has never stopped loving her. But they can't be together because... well, he's Mama's Boy. Even if he did get her back, his mother would control him and make him treat Chawon poorly again.

Cheolgyu's current wife I think does care for him. I think she took a shine to him the first time they met. She wants the man that loves Chawon to love her. Also, last night when she started screaming at mad MIL I knew for sure that she belonged in that family. MIL is so hateful and controlling that no sweet woman would stand a chance there. The new bride is the best fit!

I wonder how MIL would treat Seyoon if he were her son in law? Of course they'd live with Seyoon's family but mad MIL would have to get involved somehow because that's her life... controlling her children.

Still, my favorite character is Cheolgyu.

Love also that the new daughter in law of the noodle house was accepted as a daughter and that her new MIL/Mother cares so much for her. Wow, Choonhee and Hyodong are a great couple too!
