C-Drama: LA18 7pm <木府風雲> "The Mu Saga" (11/13/2012-1/8/2013)

This is a 2011 production. A 40-episode Chinese period drama depicting the saga of the Mu family during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The Mu's originated from China's southwestern province, Yun Nan, in a city called Li Jiang. The stories involved power struggles within the family as well as fighting with local political officials during the time of national unification.

The central character is a woman who was the head of the Mu clan. She was sent by the sworn enemy of the Mu clan to infiltrate the Mu clan so she can exact her revenge for her own family. Her uncle dropped her off in front of the Mu compound when she was 10 years old. By the time she was 20, she thought her mission to exact the revenge on the Mu clan had been forgotten by her own clan because she had not heard from anyone during the 10 year period. She fell in love with the eldest grandson of the Mu family. As she knew she had the responsibility of destroying the Mu clan, she cannot marry into the Mu family.

This is her story. This drama will follow her rise to the head of the Mu clan.

I just wish they would sub title. I remember when they did use sub titles. One I remember was The Last Empress which was wonderful.

I have been watching and waiting for some explanation. About 8 years ago I went to Yunan and stayed in Li Jiang which was a great experience. This was my second trip to Yunan when I went to Kun MIng.

Have you been watching this program?

Hi Pali! No, I haven't been watching this drama. With the kind of viewing selections that are out there and available online, I have become more selective in what I watch these days.

Between the 7pm and the noon Chinese dramas airing on LA18, I generally choose one to watch. In the last viewing cycle, I chose to watch the noon drama, A Thousand Miles Away (老伴). Even so, I have yet to finish the series. In the current viewing cycle, between Gung Hay Fat Choy and the Wonderful Declarations From a Daughter-in-Law, I think I'll skip both. I don't like watching modern mainland Chinese dramas (there were a few exceptions in the past, but not many) and I don't like the contrived stories of Gung Hay Fat Choy. I will continue to post information on both dramas as there is a lot of information about these shows.

When I go back to Taiwan next time, I'll see if I can contact TV stations and ask if they can subtitle their top dramas for export.

Re:

Merela Before I subscribed to Dish Network, I could get the Interational Channel which showed many historical dramas which were subtitiled and excellent. Also, I think the Last Empress was wonderful and subtitied. I have been watching too many Korean shows and would prefer more Chinese and Japanese shows.
