It's been increasing in popularity lately, so I wonder if Direct TV and Time Warner will ever add it to their repertoire of channels later this year?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hiroshi66)Thu, 18 Jul 2013 23:19:17 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2062857,from=rss#post2062857https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2062857,from=rss#post2062857So I never called DirecTV to ask about those packages but I'm still over here debating a couple things. To solve the DTV and satellite channels on the same TV issue, I believe, if you are running the Hopper and Joey system like I am, you can purchase a usb add on for this box that connects to an antenna that will receive and show the local DTV channel in your guide and let you record them.... just in case someone was still interested. Now I'm trying to figure out what equipment I need to get these darn channels I want.nondisclosed_email@example.com (GilM)Thu, 18 Jul 2013 22:41:57 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058606,from=rss#post2058606https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058606,from=rss#post2058606 class blockquote GilM wrote: Thanks, sorry about late response. Maybe you can get some of the channels you're interested for free, based on your particular plan. I know for sure I get one of the KBS channels for free, but there are a number of other Korean channels that I can get without any subscription. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hiroshi66)Tue, 13 Nov 2012 23:08:00 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058417,from=rss#post2058417https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058417,from=rss#post2058417Well that's not fair at all. I'm going to have to look into Time Warner now and see how much that korean bundle will cost me. It's a conspiracy man! Add to that they have the rights to air Lakers games as well. Totally not fair. nondisclosed_email@example.com (GilM)Tue, 13 Nov 2012 21:51:16 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058303,from=rss#post2058303https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058303,from=rss#post2058303 class blockquote SuperRookie wrote: Yep, Time Warner carries the most of the Korean channels. KSCI/LA 18.1 is on Channel 18 on Time Warner, and KXLA (44.1) is on Channel 24 (at least in my area.) The digital channels plan sounds great but I wish they would just add 18.2 to it. It's a "digital channel" after all! But like Hiroshi66 said, they are subscription channels. They have the local KXLA and KSCI/LA 18.1 channel. MBC Digital, LA18.3 is free if you get the digital channels plan (most people have this). KBS World requires the family plan for only $8/month extra. With this you get MNET, tvk1 and tvk2 also. To get SBS International or MBC America alone, that requires $15/month each extra. The difference between MBC America and Digital, LA18.3 is MBC AM gets the shows a few weeks to 2 months earlier, video quality I think might be higher also. I'd be more inclined to get those if more people in the forum had those channels, but as is, with SBS Int and MBC America being a few weeks ahead of the local channels (spoiler benchmark), then I couldn't post about those shows anyway. LOL It's a really complicated situation right now for us to come up with a solution to satisfy most viewers as far as spoiler standards go, given how varied the options have become, with each channel on a totally different schedule than another. Luckily KBS World is mostly close to KXLA, if that suddenly switched to being weeks to two months in advance of KXLA (like the MBC and SBS premium channels...), that would be a huge impact that would seriously divide, slow down the active threads. If you want everything, that requires getting the Korean Bundle plan for $24/month extra - with that you'll get KBS World, MBC America, MBC Digital, SBS International, tvk 1/2, MNET. Most of us in the forum have the family and regular digital channels plan, to get MBC Digital and KBS World.nondisclosed_email@example.com (SuperRookie)Sat, 10 Nov 2012 09:55:45 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058297,from=rss#post2058297https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058297,from=rss#post2058297 class blockquote GilM wrote: Time Warner seems to have more channels like MBC and SBS right? Unfortunately, my DVR receiver doesn't have that OTA input in the back. I will try that splitter thing though. My main concern is being able to record the shows I get OTA since I can just set the DTV box in the same room as my receiver and switch inputs on the TV to watch those channels. Not a hassle for me but there's no guide and all that good stuff. Time Warner seems to have more channels like MBC and SBS right? Can anyone confirm this?nondisclosed_email@example.com (GilM)Sat, 10 Nov 2012 02:00:39 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058233,from=rss#post2058233https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058233,from=rss#post2058233That second link is very interesting, SuperRookie. Yes, if only we could do that with TimeWarner. At this point, the only solution is basically to wait for them to gradually add certain digital channels to their lineup—if they ever do. I still have hope for 18.2! That being said, I don't really watch much TV other than 18.2, but it would still be nice to have it on cable for more people to enjoy. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hiroshi66)Thu, 08 Nov 2012 07:48:22 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058220,from=rss#post2058220https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058220,from=rss#post2058220GilM you might want to check these links: http://www.mydish.com/support/setup-ota-module http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/How-to-Add-Local-Channels-to-Your-DISH-Lineup.shtml I've never used satellite, so I can't really provide more info on first hand use.   I wish TW cable box had something like this, so I can get rabbit ears to get 18.2 and record it to my current cable box+DVR unit. I haven't gotten rabbit ears since it seems like it's going to be too much hassle to switch back and forth from my cable box and rabbit ear signals back and forth, not to mention I'd have to buy a third party DVR or VCR to record the rabbit ear signals, should I go that route. nondisclosed_email@example.com (SuperRookie)Wed, 07 Nov 2012 13:59:35 +0000 Re: Satellite and DTV channels on same TVhttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058214,from=rss#post2058214https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p2058214,from=rss#post2058214Unfortunately, TimeWarner Cable does not have certain digital channels available. Over time—based on 'popular demand' and the number of requests received—they've added certain digital channels to their cable lineup (such as 18.3, 18.5, 5.2, etc.,) but not all of them are available yet. I watch the Japanese channel, 18.2, and that has yet to be added to TimeWarner's lineup. We have TimeWarner cable on our main television at home, but in order to watch the digital channels, I had to get rid of the cable box in my room and add a digital converter/antenna. I didn't mind, since it's not like I watched much TV other than what's on the digital channels anyway. I do know there is a way to have cable/satellite and digital TV on the same unit, and if I remember correctly, there may have been some posts about it (including how to record) elsewhere in the Tech Forum from when the digital conversion first took place. If you can't find it here, there may be some tips on Google. I remember trying to figure it out when the digital conversion first took place and I ended up confusing myself. The best I could do was connect a DTV box on the same TV where the DVR receiver was but I don't know how to go about recording things from there. Don't think it would be possible from what I can see unless you buy a TiVo or something. Ideas anyone?nondisclosed_email@example.com (GilM)Wed, 07 Nov 2012 00:02:51 +0000
