J- and K-drama game: "Identify the Quote"

I‛ve wanted to start this new game for a long time, but it might be a little difficult, or need some tweaking. The object is to post a memorable quote from a J- or K-drama, letting other members identify who said it and in which drama. It is not always easy to remember quotes word for word, so a close version of the statement would be okay, too. After someone answers correctly, they may post a quote themselves, or someone else may come up with a quote. Answering correctly does not mean you have to post up a new quote yourself.

Here‛s an example that is from US history, not a Japanese or Korean drama, but I‛m using it just to show how the game works. class ul Who said: "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country."

[Answer: John F. Kennedy in his Inaugural speech, 1961]

So, let the game begin! Here‛s a quote for other members to answer. [Clue: It is from a J-Drama] class ul Who said: "You are the fountain of my inspiration, the climax of my ideals."

Thanks for creating this game, Nchristi! What a great idea. This sounds like a lot of fun! emoticon

Is that quote from the Shirasu Jiro drama, by chance? If I remember correctly, I think Jiro's wife might have uttered that about her husband, but it could have been the other way around. Maybe I'm wrong—it sounds like it might have been from the Clouds Over the Slope drama, as well.

If I guessed right, is it OK for me to post up a new quote?

I just thought of one—the clue is that it is from a J-drama:

Who said... <I am going to paraphrase a tad bit here>

"God only gives us the challenges we can handle."

Yep! Miki said it originally, and Jin would always remember it during his various experiences and hardships.

Re: J- and K-drama game: "Identify the Quote"

The quote seems familiar as if it might have been used in the K-Drama adaptation early on (maybe once? it's been too long since the early episodes...), but it definitely hasn't been used enough that this version has any kind of trademark phrase as it seems the Japanese version did.

Sounds to me like the K-Drama version was really watered down in some ways, but for what it is, I find it to be a pretty interesting-to-watch version, mediocre as it is in some ways on its own merits.

I haven't seen JIN yet unfortunately, but thankfully Dr. Jin's Demon Baby gave me the answer. emoticon

Yes, the reason I remembered (and chose) that particular quote is because it was repeated throughout the entire show—both seasons, actually. Jin kept referring back to it throughout his various trials and tribulations. Interesting that the K-version didn't use it in quite the same way as the J-drama did.

On to the next quote! emoticon

Hiroshi, yes, your answer "Shirazu Jiro" was correct. (I knew you'd get that one!)

The hardest part of this game is coming up with the initial quote. LOL! After that, it's fun to guess, trying to call it back from the memory cells.

Yay! I'm glad I got that right. emoticon It was one of my favorite Japanese dramas—truly an excellent production.

I agree, coming up with (and remembering!) quotes can be challenging sometimes, but it is indeed fun to look back on some of the dramas we've viewed together as a group.
