Thanks for Technical help

I just spent at least half an hour on the phone with a Cox cable technician who helped me with the correct installation of a new DVD Cable Box and a new smart TV. She was amazing and so patient.
Her name is Renee and she was in Omaha. I am here in California. My eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be and everything she told me to do on a remote control was not easy since the various buttons are small. I am so thankful to her for helping me and I now know how to do all sorts of things with the remote that I did not know before. I know now how to record and watch something else at the same time. I can't begin to say thank you enough to a Cox lady named Renee. :-)

You're going to love having a DVR on your cable box. It makes watching all these shows so convenient, especially since you can pause live TV or record a show while watching another channel at the same time.

Don't forget though, as in the Queen Seondeok thread discussion where MKana had some problems with the Cox Onscreen guide since it isn't always accurate on what the shows are airing, ie. it might be outdated or incorrect. So when you set recordings you may need to double check that info with online TV Listings to make sure or take note on what time the show is actually airing so you can record using the air time information rather than what the onscreen guide lists.

For example on mine, on Monday's (before the onscreen grid is updated) sometimes it still lists Queen Seondeok as "The Duo".

Re: Thanks for Technical help

SuperRookie, my head is still spinning with all the information she gave me. I wish I had an information booklet and I don't know why Cox does not issue one. I just reaalied that although I recorded a programme today as a practice, I have no clue how to watch it. I am scared to push any buttons because that is how I lost the picture and got a screen full of snow over the weekend.
Must say it is most ingenioue that ou can pause a programme and go and make a cup of tea and then come back and resume the show.
Life is good.

On the downside, now you'll see why I'm constantly behind! LOL! I have around 40+ hours of K-Dramas still sitting on my DVR waiting to be viewed, since I try to record as much as possible of the airing K-Dramas... but then while I'm watching something, if something needs my attention or I have to do something briefly, I pause it instead of missing a second... but this means more time needed to actually watch the shows in entirety. It's a fun problem to have. LOL

You might want to check Cox's website support page, in theory they should have a lot of FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) pages or online guides for your DVR, remote control, etc..

So glad that you were able to find someone like Renee who was very kind, patient, and helpful in helping you with the installation, Peggy-san! It's great to see that "nice" customer service still exists. emoticon

Re: Thanks for Technical help

You know Greg san it is the second person this weekend who revived my faith in good human nature. I was made uneasy by threat of being charged hundreds of dollars because I wanted to cancel an in- house alarm system. I won't mention the name. Anyway I was horrified and felt I was being put into a cage with no outlet. I woke up Monday morning and decided I was not going to be cheated (that was the case in this instance) I called the Customer Help and told them I no longer needed the system since I was recovered and able to navigate on my own. I sounded so strong that they put me on to the right department and I got a very nice woman who immediately put the disconnect into work and then told me not to worry about the fee being called for. I asked about sending back the machine in question. she said 'Oh just get rid of it in the garbage!!!'This is the machine for which they were going to charge me the hundreds of dollars. I was truly amazed at the duplicity of the company and then the honesty of the service lady.
I did not discard the machine but I disconnected it in my house and I will keep it for a time just in case they ask for it later. This is a well known item and is advertised on TV but apparently they have been investigated lately for charging high fees for some and less for others. Also they kept charging even after some people had died. Incredible. But there are some honest people who make life good.

That is so nice to hear, Peggy. I've heard too many stories about how people are cheated or charged an arm and a leg for installing/uninstalling some of the various devices we now have in our homes. It's nice that the people you spoke to didn't try and take advantage of you. It's nice that there are still people out there who do things out of the kindness of their heart—even if they don't get anything in return.
