Re: C-drama: LA18 12pm 西遊記 (Journey to the West 2012) (7/19/12 - ) This version is really wonderful. It must be the most expensive one I have seen. It is done in the fantasy style and all sorts of magical scenes happen. Actors are incredible intheir roles and in those heavy and cumbersome costumes at times.
Re: C-drama: LA18 12pm 西遊記 (Journey to the West 2012) (7/19/12 - ) The first time I caught glimpse of this production, I was hooked. It is, by far, the best, most realistic, most fascinating production of Journey to the West that I have ever come across. The blending of live actors and CGI special effects is just the best. Though it is mesmerizing with no e-subs, I keep wishing there were some. What an even more fascinating experience it would be if we could understand some dialogue.
As you mentioned, Peg, the costuming is beyond wonderful. It's hard to imagine real people being inside them, instead of the popular advanced animation we have about us today being used. A lot of this so far seems to have been filmed in colder weather, the breath of the actors frequently shows. Thank goodness for that! Can you imagine being in all those theatrical prosthetics during summer?
Re: C-drama: LA18 12pm 西遊記 (Journey to the West 2012) (7/19/12 - ) You are right about this version being the best ever. I also admire the total immersion of the actors into their roles. I know they are almost hidden in the disguises, but even so they look and sound and feel the part. You can believe they are real and not theatrical creatures.
I would love to see this with English subs as well.
