Re: Internet 9. Should we change?

Yes, I think Windows XP can still be used now. I'm not sure how compatible it is with new versions of internet browsers and other programs, but I think you can definitely still use it on your computer. I know if I could, I would! I find it to be very user-friendly.

Hope Internet Explorer 9 works out for you! It may take some time getting used to, but if not, I guess it's comforting knowing that you can always go back to what you were using before.

Re: Internet 9. Should we change?

I'm still using Windows XP with Mozilla SeaMonkey or Firefox. I stay away from IE like the plague, using it only occasionally when my DSL tech support wants me to use it for their reasons of checking certain things. I'm still at IE 6.0. I keep what works for me until I start to have problems and MUST upgrade to something else. So far, that day hasn't come with Windows XP or the browsers I use.

Re: Internet 9. Should we change?

Glad to hear Windows XP is still working great for you, Nchristi. It's definitely my favorite operating system, and I still consider it to be the most user-friendly and easy to use operating system (out of both Windows and Mac) out there. The layout is really simple and clear. Even after Vista came out, I kept using Windows XP until my previous computer stopped working and I purchased a new one which had Vista preinstalled on it. I sure missed Windows XP, that's for sure!

As for IE, I can't stand it either - especially the newer versions. Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome have always been my favorites, although I've been using Safari for the last couple of years and been liking it, as well.

Re: Internet 9. Should we change?

Brad6, going from Windows XP directly to Windows 8 and thus bypassing Windows 7 is like going from drinking an ice latte to a hot green tea with a splash of lemon juice (my fave emoticon It is a drastic upgrade and I am impress and happy that you are handling it well.

I havent upgraded yet from Windows 7 to Windows 8 as i am waiting for the official release, but I have played with the beta version and I like it a lot.

I am currently using a Nokia Lumia 900 cellphone running Windows Phone 7.5 and i cant wait for the Windows Phone 8 which should be out in two months or so. It mimics the Windows 8 operating system that will also be out in a few months.

Also, Windows 8 will be using IE10 and i think once people gave it a try they will love it. It is faster thus pages loads quicker and sharper.

Wow, an IE 10 is going to be released too!? Hopefully they'll fix all the bugs that are associated with IE and make it easier to use.

OK Been there and done that. Not good at all.
I just finally found out by trial and error how to uninstall IE9 and reinstall IE8
I didn't know that I was that smart, so now I feel I am an intelligent computer geek at last !! Sort of...
I also got myself back into windows 7 Pro which surprised me no end. don't know how that happened.
I really did not like IE9. I found it was no quicker on the click finding things as my original setting was. I also found that whereas before, I clicked once to get where I wanted to go, I now had to click two and three times and go through a small 'question window' which was a pain. Everything was slower. Worst of all it totally changed my Favourites column which had been on the left hand side and I could move up and down at my own pace. With IE9 it moved to the centre and it was one of those fast scrolling lists which just went so fast I could not control it. No matter how I searched I could not change it at all.

Now I feel so pleased to get back to where I was before. Hope no-one else has this experience.

Glad that it all resolved for you, Peggy, there is no better feeling than fixing an issue yourself emoticon Hopefully, you wont have any more problems with your settings especially since your input on these boards are so much appreciated.

Re: Internet 9. Should we change?

Glad you were able to get everything resolved and switch back to a previous version of IE, Peggy! Sometimes it's hard to get away from these updates, especially with browsers and operating systems, so it's great to hear that you were able to successfully revert back to the previous version.

Re: Internet 9. Should we change?

My real hiccup was not being able to download anything. I am in the midst of getting some very oldJapanese taigas and every week I could download an episode. Well I found that I had lost utorrent completely. After clicking around I found I was into some strange version of utorrent and it was not what I wanted. I finally did a systems restore back about a week and lo and behold it worked.
The internet and computers are a marvel aren't they. don't know what I would do without mine. My husband always said I must keep on with finding out more about the PC since it would be my friend when I was alone. He was always right. Rocking chairs have never been my choice.

Crash we used to live in Bayside L.I when we first came to US. Actually we lived in Manhattan at first and I liked that. L.I meant a train ride every morning back into the city. the beaches way out on the island were lovely and not crowded in those days.

System Restore is awfully handy, isn't it!? I find it really amazing how it's almost like a time machine, taking your computer back to a certain state - even if you have installed a totally new version of the operating system on there. Well, glad it's all working for you again!
