Re: K-Drama: 광개토대왕 (廣開土太王) (Gwanggaeto, The Great Conqueror)

This drama has a lot of familiar faces in it.

Lee Tae Gon/Kon - the heartthrob from "Golden Fish"
Kim Seung-Su - another legend... loved him as Daeso in "Jumong"
Oh Ji-Eun - "Bongi" of "Smile Donghae" fame

And check out this picture. Look familiar? LOL!

No, it's not Mr. Clean or Mr. T... it's K-drama's most popular villain, Kim Kyu-Cheol.

LOL! That had be busting up seeing that, the K-version of Mr. T... It'll be interesting to see if Kim Kyu Cheol will play another villain type... he's always one it seems! He was recently in Detectives in Trouble and at first appeared to be a villain, but actually ended up to be a good guy. He's of course fantastic as a villain, but it'll be interesting if he plays something else in this one.

I grew to really enjoy Oh Ji Eun in Smile Donghae, her role there was rather one dimensional and simple and typical, but I like the actress... it'll be interesting to see if this series might provide her character more to work with. Particularly towards the end of SD, I great to like her evolved looks, hope that carries over into this series. It is interesting that she's the lead female in this series though, hopefully it's a good role.

After Jumong and recently, King Geunchogo, I'm totally into this whole path of the story and history. I'm looking forward to seeing what happened after Yeogu's rule from the series previous to this. What a great follow up series, in terms of audience storytelling to follow up with a series with correlation to the previous one. After being years without access to Historical/Warrior series, I'm just reveling in being lucky enough to get one back to back!

Re: K-Drama: 광개토대왕 (廣開土太王) (Gwanggaeto, The Great Conqueror)

I must say I was pleasantly surprised with Lee Tae Gon as Dam Duk (the main character). He was so blah in Golden Fish that I wasn't expecting much except a strong, silent, good-looking man. But I was really surprised to see how animated and perfectly suited he is for this role. He has definitely found a genre in which he shines.

Not only that, but it is nice to see a fully-grown, masculine man in this type role. I suspect he might become my favorite "Historical" actor in the K-hunk category. LOL! But nobody can replace my all-time favorite in the slightly older category—the Archfiend (Lee Duk Hwa). And my next slightly older favorite, Jun Kwang Ryul as any king.

As for the opening episode itself, ho hum... what can I say? The beginnings of these historicals are always the same to me. Big battles and trying to lay out the main characters and their place in time and history. So, I'm not disappointed yet. It will take several episodes, probably, for me to get into the story of this one.

I missed the first show and I am confused. That isn't hard to do..lol. How is this prince related to the prince that BYJ played? And who is the girl she didn't say anything tonight. Thanks if anyone can help me.

Wish I could help, but I don't have a clue about any characters "BYJ" has played. Hopefully, one of our "historical" fans can help answer your questions.

I can't answer the second question as I haven't watched the first two episodes yet, it's on my DVR.

With regards to BYJ, do you mean The Legend? Didn't get a chance to see that, but to my knowledge both characters are one and the same (The Legend from what I remember reading before was a loose and mythical interpretation of the history?), they play the role of Damdeok/Damduk later on known as Gwanggaeto.

Wow, how confusing is this? It's basically the same story? I'm a little surprised, but then "Legend" was MBC and this one is KBS. And it has been four years since "Legend," so it isn't all that surprising. In the Japanese historical dramas we see the same historical figures over and over again, with a different emphasis to the story each time around.

Re: K-Drama: 광개토대왕 (廣開土太王) (Gwanggaeto, The Great Conqueror)

At the moment I am really confused that The Legend is the same story as this present drama. In fact I could not keep on watching The Legend with "BYJ' .... Such a fantastical long drawn out and very loose rendition of any story would be hard to find.

Lee Tae Gon is perfect for this role. He is tall and very strong and apparently was a great physical specimen in college. He is still in very good shape and goes all out with the martial arts. This week he was on the 'Happy Together ' variety show and appeared with his left leg in a cast from toes to almost knee level. He was rushing through one of those wooden gate doorways and the barrier was higher than usual so he missed it and fell. He is much more talkative in person these days and also much younger than we realise. They mentioned that he was the youngest one..but I don't know if this was in the cast(no pun intended) or in the programme that night. He is all for realism even when doing fight scenes.
