I saw the first episode last night, look flashy and good but will fall as trivia to all the indulgence of an idol star, there will be no revenge for his parents, as usual in Kdrama he will fall into the superficial life of Korea, he will become favorites of the 5 minus1 people who sanction his father's murder and this drama will end disappontedly with all love and happy, isn't the kdrama? The fans will not want to see him die so the best is to make everyone forgive and remember the life they sacrificed for their country.

Someone more rugged should of done this drama, the fans will not want his to die and the ending will be disappointed.

Re: K-Drama: 시티헌터 (City Hunter)

Well, I had to laugh a little bit. If it were set in the North American continent, our hero probably would have been raised by a pack of wolves. LOL! Thank goodness this is a manga. If it were serious, it would have been a little too gruesome and disturbing and I wouldn't be hanging around long in watching it. Instead, this reminded me of little kids playing cops and robbers, only the modern version of commando drug dealers in the Golden Triangle.

Favorite scene: Commando Dad giving his last instructions to the kid—after looking rather unscathed from a land mine explosion at zero point. C-Dad has a nice keloid scar just above his heart and tells Hero Boy to take a knife and gouge it out. Voilé! It is the very bullet that killed Hero Boy's real father, passing through his heart and lodging in the chest of Commando Dad! I guess it will be the driving memento for Hero Boy to exact his revenge on all the bad guys in the Korean government, the "5 Men."

So, everybody important to Hero Boy gets killed, except Commando Dad. We see some time lapses. Best one was the 10-year old kid riding his elephant, camera pans down, then pans up again to a 20-ish looking Hero Boy, now our teen idol actor. Another time lapse shows Hero Boy arriving in Seoul, in his fancy duds and limo... apparently he has spent some years in the States getting educated on all that drug money. Another great voilé! moment is the ending of Ep. 1, where Hero Boy unknowingly is standing near the girl he loves—having fallen in love with her picture back in the jungle when he was a mere lad.

Now that the intense back story is finished, this one will probably settle down somewhat. It seemed a little daring to me (politically speaking, that is) that the main bad guys are ministers and high officials of the South Korean government, who have their own commandos murdered in order to save their jobs—after they send them on an unauthorized secret mission to North Korea to kill 30 generals in retaliation for an assassination attempt against the So. Korean president. But then we're talking about the beginnings of the ROK—maybe they aren't looked upon so favorably by present day Koreans.

I only saw one episode of this drama, so its a little early to doom anyone, especially the hero.

I like most of the cast, but lately have been seeing some of the same actors shuffled up and put in every new drama that comes down the pike. This is one of these dramas. I'm going to give it a chance, because I really like at least a couple of these actors.

Sometimes I wonder if each broadcaster (KBS, MBC, SBS) has its own stable of contract actors for supporting roles. During the first scenes of Ep. 1, it seemed like SBS took the Midas cast and plugged them into this one. (I missed seeing the actor who plays the mean brother in Midas—he has become one of my favorite bad-guy actors.)

You're right, nchristi. Puts one in mind of the old Hollywood studios, MGM, 20th Century Fox, etc. where all of the actors were under contract. Not like there aren't enough supporting actors around, if they'd take a look.

Re: K-Drama: 시티헌터 (City Hunter)

The first episode left me thinking... 'too violent for me'. But after the 2nd episode I see it has all the makings of the dramas that I personally find entertaining.. Had a bit of comedy (lead girl throwing lead guy around on the floor) and of course, a bit of romance (with a 3rd person.... the prosecutor guy). I'm glad I stuck around for the 2nd episode.

However, since he was groomed to destroy all those who allowed the crew on that mission to die, I'm sure there will be too much violence for me. But I'm going to try to hang in there.

Re: K-Drama: 시티헌터 (City Hunter)

I don't know how much the guys will enjoy this drama, but it certainly is directed to young teen girls with a crush on the main teen idol actor Lee Min Ho. The producers didn't waste any time capitalizing on that! What a kiss in Ep. 2. (Was that a plane overhead—or a mass swoon arising out of Seoul?) Later our Knight in Shining Armor sweeps up the girl and cavalierly carries her up many flights of stairs in her tenement-looking apartment building.

This fantasy adventure manga has every cliché angle put in it somewhere. Empowering to young people: He's mega rich, a PhD from MIT at age 26 (after being raised by Commando Dad in the jungles making heroin all his life); she's now a personal bodyguard in the Blue House for the President's daughter (after living on the streets as an orphan trying to pay for her father's hospitalization for the last 10 years).

Speaking of orphans, we have those, too. Two little street urchins whose father abandoned them. They have a small hole of a room in Na-na's building, but no gas or water. They live off of bread and ramen, to which the girl is deathly allergic (literally). Not to worry! Yoon Sung to the rescue. He has millions (probably billions) and pays off everything for those he feels sorry for.

It satisfies teen male and female fantasies. Lee Min Ho is the hot ticket these days and his dashing, always in command, rich, aloof but good-hearted bad boy character who only really wants the 'good girl' is every young girl's dream. Kim Na-na is pretty, but better still, she's feisty and a martial arts expert. And she's still keeping Yoon Sung at arm's length, so the chase is still on for the guys.

I'm not down on this drama. The fantasy manga slant is what makes it fun and watchable for me, something that can't be taken too seriously. It's also a kick seeing how the writers spin this story. Well, actually it's a Japanese manga. The kudos go to Tsukasa Hojo, a 52-year old, very successful mangaka (manga cartoonist). The Korean scriptwriters Hwang Eun Kyung and Choi Soo Jin adapted it for K-drama, which requires notable talent, as well.

Well, actually I do have a criticism. That was some bullet Yoon Sung wears around his neck. Awfully pristine looking for a bullet that has gone through one body and entered the next. A slug would be smashed to a major degree after that trajectory. I wonder if we will see a bullet collectible necklace or phone strap from this K-drama?

Image
Expanding bullet loaded in a 6.5x55mm before and after expanding. The long base and small expanded diameter show that this is a bullet designed for deep penetration on large game. The bullet in the photo traveled more than halfway through a moose before coming to rest, performing as designed. —Comments courtesy of Sarah Palin (Just kidding)

So, got my popcorn and diet soda.... on with the show!
