3/11/2011 Sendai Earthquake
At about 10:15p.m. local time or about 3:15 p.m. JST, a major earthquake hit northern Japan tonight. From some of the early reports we had a 8.4 quake. I'am watching the feed from MSNBC or switching over to CNN just to keep up with the fast breaking news. But since then I finally remembered to bring up NHK world report in English on-line so I can watch a live feed. Wow it was weird to watch the NHK feed and then to look up at my TV and see their version of the same feed on MSNBC. Funny while NHK told me their feed was live ( real-time) the reporter at MSNBC wasn't sure if she was watching a delayed feed. Man the flooding just in the first hour has massive! and how we all have go on a tidal wave alert!
This morning the quake was been scaled up to having been a 8.9 mag earthquake. It occured at 2:46 P.M. JST / 9:46 P.M. PST. The tsunami that hit Sendai was up to 10 meters high and the early death count is now over 300, in the local Sendai area. But I'am afraid this will be much worse. So far my best site for news from Japan has been NHK, other eng.-language sites have been over loading and I've had to fall back on CNN,Fox,and MSNBC feeds for news.

Re: The 8.4 Earthquake of 3-11-2011
Quakes of this magnitude are always a scary thing, especially when you see all the footage that has come out today. I was glued to the TV watching CNN when they had a feed from NHK with all the waves rushing to shore. While it's still too early to know how bad this situation is; considering how huge this quake was, it's a good thing it was further away from land. If this quake struck nearer to the cities, this could have been even more catastrophic.
Having experienced the Northridge quake here in the 90s, it was something that I'll never forget and now recently back in SoCal it's still something in the back of my head.
I hope for them that the worst is over.

Re: 3/11/2011 Sendai Earthquake
NHK World is continuing to air on UTB Channel 18.2. I still watch 18.2 on my PC with TV Tuner. Wow, TV and HDTV are really difficult to view! TV Tuner is smooth, readable and high quality feed.

BBC TV say There is radiation at nuke plant in Fukushima-Daini area: 1,000 times normal. 3 nuke reactors are affected.
CNN say U.S. Air Force send coolants to Fukushima nuke plant after Japan Gov't ask U.S. for help but They're working on their own. Not another Chernobyl disaster.
Update: Al Jazeera tweeted 45,000 people told to evacuate homes near #Fukushima nuclear plant, as radiation levels soar, http://aje.me/fjTZp4
U.S. Force in Japan will assist them.

Re: 3/11/2011 Sendai Earthquake
Wow! Even now NHK world is reporting that with all the damage to their Nuke-power plants just to be safe over 5.5 million homes in Japan are still without power. The reports on-line are that deaths are feared to be over 1,000, and coastal Japan will be under Tsunami watch for at least another 24 hours!
