Kangta - <3 & SMTOwn Concert

Kangta is back and better than ever...hehe. Saw him at the SMTown Live in LA last weekend, and he's still good looking along with beautiful voice. He got a good looking tan, and a much better built. There was a lot of screaming from all over the Staple Center, so I couldn't catch much of what he said. He did say a bit in English greeting to fans. Actually come to think of it, I was one of the screaming fans jumping up and down as Kangta was waving toward my section. I had a glimpse of hope that he noticed the standing crowd up in the yay-high.

Here's a clip of him from Judith118 - She has better capture of him than my video b/c i'm way up high: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNnfjj-qKZI

I'll also post my clip as well. He's the 3rd performer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QRBjObaem8

Not sure if it's because of time constraint or not, but he only performed 2 songs, where as the concert in Seoul, he was performing about 4 - 5 times, including a dancing battle. I would have love to see him dance it out with Yunho and Max or with the Super Junior boys. Regardless, it was a great concert and a great experience. I would definitely go again, and I'll start saving my money now for that floor seat emoticon

Re: Kangta - <3

emoticon Thanks, Funniegirlie! It's so great seeing him back. In the closeups I noticed his eyes looked very tired—such a long flight from Seoul to LA, plus the 14–15 hr. time difference. I read today that the SMTown artists came over on a single, chartered flight. Pricey, at over $800,000... or so said the article. Were they all here for only one concert? (I'll be glad when the black-rimmed glasses fashion passes!)

The other day I saw Kangta interviewed and learned something I had not known before. When H.O.T first hit the scene, there were only adult singers. H.O.T was the first "boy band" group and look at the pop music scene now in Seoul! LOL!

Funniegirlie, if you have time, please share with us what you thought of the whole concert. Who were your favorite performers? Were you happy about the presentation? Any disappointments, or disappointment with the Staple Center?

Re: Kangta - <3

Part One:

H.O.T was my favorite boy band. I love their song “Candy”. They were so young then. I’m not sure what the other members are doing, but it seems that only Kangta stays in the music industry.

I would assume the cost of chartered plan is very high due to the large crew that they have. Not only do they travel at different time due to their own schedules prior to the event, but they were probably going from different areas. For example, SNSD were in Japan promoting their Japanese albums just right before they headed to LA. Let see, we have groups/individual + bands’ managers + costume/wardrobe coordinators for each group + makeup/hair stylists + dancers
1. F(x) has 4 girls
2. Super Junior has 10 guys
3. SHINee has 5 guys
4. SNSD has 9 girls
5. TRAX has 2 guys
6. Boa
7. DBSK has 2 guys
8. 3 or 4 other soloists that were the opening acts of the concert

So overall, they have about 40 people traveling, and not including staffs that take care of the lightings and etc.

The Concert as a whole, I was very satisfied with it. I was glad that I decided to go even with the nosebleed seats that I have with my friend. We sat all the way up, almost to the wall. I would totally start saving the money now just in case they come back again and I want to be down by the stage q(*-*)p. I think the Staple Center staffs were handling the even superbly, especially for not knowing the content nor the language. I think SM needed to or should have be more communicative with the non-Korean speaking staffs of Staple Center. That was the main complaint made by the Staple Center staffs that I overheard in the elevator after the show. One of the section guard where I sat asked us about the show and the singers performing, so my friend and I filled him in on that. We said they're pretty much like N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, Pussy Cat dolls, rock, etc.

The one negative about the concert was the lack of translation when the artists spoke to the audience. I wished that there were translators for each groups. Because most of them were limited with their English, they were really shy in speaking it. Some made the attempts and it was cute and I was very appreciated of them doing so. However, there were a few singers that were from the States that could have done the translation. There were so many non-Asian audiences at the concert. It was amazing to see the wide range of nationalities of the audience along with the ages. I don’t mind the songs not translated because if you could sing along, I think you already know what the song means.

On the performance, it was great. Each of them put on their best performance, and you could tell because of their hoarse voices by the end of the night. They were all mic, either by holding on the wireless microphones or ear mic. I wished some of the performances though would be in the front of the stage rather than all the way in the back end of the stage, where it was hard to see them for the people on the side up high that got blocked by the beams (as you can see from my video clip).

Re: Kangta - <3

Part 2: I didn't want to overwritten on one post...hehe.

As for my favorite performers, that's hard to choose. But if I have to, I would say SUPER JUNIOR, Kangta, SHINee, SNSD, and Yunho & Max from DBSK.

Kangta didn't have as much screams as the younger groups, but there were screaming. I think mainly from the slightly older generation that knew him from his younger days and were anticipating for his return. I know for sure I was jumping up and down screaming when his voice rang through Staple before the light was on him. Super Junior had the most performances than the other groups. The noise level in Staple center was definitely deafening whenever they came out, along with SHINee. Yunho and Max were totally awesome, Max dressed in white and Yunho dressed in black and white checker; and being hoisted up on suspension lines and went across the stage before landed. A lot of people were anticipated for their return. I was really mad at my camera for dying on me not soon after their entrance, but was equally glad that it held on that long for me q(*-*)p to capture their entrance.

One cool performance that I thought was toward the end where the boys from Super Junior, SHINee, and TRAX got together and performed a Rock-style number. That was very awesome. The ending number to conclude the concert was a collaboration from everyone. It was a cute song.

I forgot, SNSD was pretty good performing live. There was a part where Tayeon's voice (the leader of SNSD) was either so hoarse that she couldn't sing any louder or the mic wasn't working, and the fans sang that line really loud. That was very awesome. F(x) performance was good and lively, but they were so back into the stage that I couldn't really see them half of the time they were performing. As well as Boa, she was really good but she was way in the back of the stage. She was the only who spoke the most English when she was conversing with the fans.

They will have 2 more performances, one in Japan and one in China I think. So there will be a lot of traveling for most of the singers, on top of their regular touring schedule. These trips must take a great toll on them physically and emotionally. I can only hope that when they see die-hard fans waiting and cheering them, they are encouraged.

Re: Kangta - <3 & SMTOwn Concert

Thanks for your write-up, Funniegirlie. It was wonderful... almost like I was there! emoticon

I'm a little surprised that the staging was such that some seats couldn't see, or that the performers weren't up front enough for all to see. That's a disappointment. Actually, it shouldn't happen, if staging is done professionally. But then, there is the language barrier. I also remember how impossible the Rain World Tour event was in LA—such a lack of communication and preparation that it was canceled at the last minute.

Anyway, I'm glad you had a great time. There's a lot of energy at concerts like that.

I would imagine language barrier is the biggest issue.

The energy was awesome. I felt like I was a teen again when the guys came out, especially DBSK emoticon.

Maybe we should have a gathering of the board members here at one of the concert...hehe. it would be fun.

You're welcome. Glad to be able to share the fun.

Ah funniegirl82..:-)

Just read your account of the concert with Kangta. Strange thing is that I just pulled out one of his albums a couple of days ago. He still looks pretty much the same. Maybe a little more solid, which is not bad. His voice is good as ever I think. I think you are so brave sitting way up there in the 'gods' as we used to call those seats in England.

I had not realised that SHINee were here with this concert. I like them so much. Did they sing 'Lucifer'. and what did they wear for that number. I have always had a crush on sweet Minho and expecially when he was on that athletic show. He was so competitive. Then he hurt his leg and did not come back, but when he returned to the group he had grown a foot it seemed and cut his hair short. Looked totally different.
Thanks for your postings

Peg

Just saw them do Lucifer on another fan cam. they were pretty good but thesound was iffy of course. Too bad they could not have some of these groups on a TV show here.

The concert was on the Entertainment Show late tonight. They showed a lot of them leaving from Korea and arriving at L.A. Also showed quite a few of the acts but no Kangta :-(

Did see Minho and SHINee did 'Lucifer.'

Re: Kangta - <3 & SMTOwn Concert

KXLA showed the Entertainment Relay on Friday night that covered the SMTown concert travel from Seoul and arrival in LA, then highlights of the concert itself. I had to laugh when they showed all the entertainers on their private plane. And who was pushing the drink and snack cart, giving goodies to the seated passengers? None other than KangTa. I guess that says it all in the TV world. The insatiable appetite for the teen types. Although he is highly respected by the younger performers, almost like a father figure these days—at 31.

Kangta has been on a few talk and reality shows since he came out of the army, so he's making his presence known. But half his life (or more) is now in the behind-the-scenes music business. He is a major stockholder of SMTown and has taken on an executive role of sorts. Plus, he still does song writing for other singers. As for performing, his favorite is his China concerts. They LOVE him in China and he spends a lot of money building schools and the like to educate the rural poor. He's even said a couple of times that he would like to marry a Chinese woman. The most recent interview I saw, he said that he now seriously is looking to get married. The time has come.

Re: Kangta - <3 & SMTOwn Concert

re Kangta...I have ben trying to locate a copy of album POLARIS and maybe also PINE TREE but it seems they are out of print. You would think they would at least keep them in stock somewhere. the guy is still alive and well and still admired. I suppose 1992 is history in the business. Don't they know you can still get recordings of Caruso for heaven's sake.!!!!
If anyone has any idea of where I could locate I would be so happy. It is for a dear friend in Europe and if I can't find I think I will have to send her my POLARIS. It means so much to her for many reasons.

Kangta so good to so many artists. He has been such a good friend to Ji Hun when many others have shunned him.
