Downloading music files.

I am finding a problem trying to d.l a particular music file. Have tried with Mu and Mediafire and Sendspace.... No luck

This file has ..rar.. at the end of the file and I don't know what this means. Is this the problem? I can D/l but I can't play in any of the usual
 files. What is ... ..rar

Have no problem with other files.

Re: Downloading music files.

Well I Just googled rar files and got more information than I was expecting. Not sure I understood it all and not sure I need it. It seems to be a programme to install and costs about $20 or something like that. Do I need it to download one OST from a drama???? I think I might wait awhile. Not the money..it's understanding how to use what seems to be a complicated programme.

http://www.7-zip.org/

7-Zip is free and lets you extract rar files.

RAR is a manner of compressing files (and some other things). What it tries to do is reduce the filesize of files. Another important function of rar is the ability to group many files into just one file. This benefits us on the internet since we on occasion have to download alot of related files and it would take forever to do it manually one-by-one.

Thanks for providing that link, Moises! My aunt was also asking me if I knew of a free program that extracts RAR files. I'm surprised that even though there are so many free sites like 7-Zip available, other companies are still charging money and fees for their programs.

Peg-san, good luck with extracting the RAR music files! Let us know how it goes. emoticon

Re: Downloading music files.

moises and Hiroshi..

Well....

First let me say that I have re downloaded and can now play the OST fro 'Long Vacation'.

How did I do it?? that is the question. I followed the advice from moises and installed 7zip. After that I d/l the file. then came the tricky part which is still a mystery to me. I messed about and clicked and opened and got nothing. then for some reason after seeing at least three or four files which now said 'Long Vacation' on my 'Tools' I clicked again on one of them and EUREKA!! up popped the zipped file which I opened and there were all the songs which play very nicely thank you....

I can't tell you how this happened, and so I am not at all sure I can do it again with a different OST. I shall count my blessings and wait for the next opportunity to see if I know what I have done and how it happend.

Thank you moises :-)

Re: Downloading music files.

Peg-san, I'm glad you were able to get the music files working! I love the Long Vacation OST as well as the drama itself -- some great acting by Kimura Takuya in one of his early dramas. And then we also have Yamaguchi Tomoko (the female lead) doing a wonderful job, as well as Takenouchi Yutaka. I think Long Vacation was the first drama where I saw Yutaka. But I have to say, my favorite performance of his is Hata-san in With Love! emoticon

Yeah, hopefully 7Zip will continue to work the next time you download an OST with songs in the .rar format!

I work with a Mac and have been using UnRarX to expand rar archives. If I'm working with par files, I'll use MacPAR deLuxe. You can also use StuffIt Expander, a program which is included software with all Macs.

All three are very simple to use... just drag & drop.

Oh yeah, I think I've heard of UnRarX before. One of my friends uses a Mac and was showing me the program a couple of days ago. I agree, the program looks really user-friendly and easy to use.
