SBS SYNOPSIS [Contains spoilers] class ul Eun-jae (actress Jang Suh-hee) majored in fashion design at a prestigious university and starts preparing to study fashion in France as a post-graduate student but she becomes pregnant with Kyo-bin’s (actor Byun Woo-min) child and then marries him, jettisoning her career hopes. Her in-laws are part of the nouveau riche class and lack any class but Eun-jae tries to get along with them during seven years of her marriage. Her first pregnancy, which led to her marriage to Kyo-bin, ends in a miscarriage. When Eun-jae becomes pregnant again after a long wait, she is overjoyed.

Around the time of her pregnancy, Eun-jae’s best friend Ae-ri (actress Kim Seo-hyung), returns to Korea after studying in France. Ae-ri was also Eun-jae’s brother’s girlfriend at one time and when she left for France 5 years ago, she said a “sponsor” was footing the bill for her tuition. But Ae-ri’s so-called secret sponsor turns out to be Eun-jae’s husband Kyo-bin. Eun-jae later finds out that Kyo-bin was cheating on her with Ae-ri. Eun-jae is shocked to learn of her friend’s betrayal because she thought Ae-ri would marry her brother, making them sisters-in-law. On top of that, Ae-ri had Kyo-bin’s child, a five-year-old boy. When Eun-jae’s brother Kang-jae learns about Kyo-bin’s indecent past, he physically assaults Kyo-bin. Due to this incident, Kyo-bin and his mother pressure Eun-jae to sign divorce papers.

After Kyo-bin and Eun-jae get divorced, Ae-ri doesn’t find her married life comfortable because her father-in-law looks at her with disdain. While nursing her broken heart on an island, Eun-jae is visited by Ae-ri, who demands that she abort her second pregnancy and move to another country. Kyo-bin also confronts Eun-jae and takes away the wedding ring he gave her and throws it into the sea. Eun-jae jumps into the ocean to try to retrieve the wedding band because it means a lot to her. But Eun-jae can’t swim and Kyo-bin doesn’t try to rescue her. Eun-jae is lost at sea. Kyo-bin and Ae-ri become partners in crime and hide the terrible secret of causing Eun-jae’s disappearance. They return home and tell the family that Eun-jae committed suicide.

Meanwhile, Lady Min, a wealthy woman who built a fortune in the retailing and money lending businesses, happened to be in the area near the island where she was searching for her missing daughter together with her adopted son, Gun-woo (actor Lee Jae-hwang). She spots Eun-jae floating unconsciously at sea and rescues her. After she loses her baby in another miscarriage, Eun-jae is taken care of by Lady Min and her adopted son. Eun-jae assumes the name of Lady Min’s missing daughter.

I feel this drama is the kind where you might end up disliking each character, but can't help waiting for each episode.

And yup, nchristi, because Lure of Wife is actually a SBS evening daily drama. Since these subtitles are provided by KBFD, even the airings in Lure of Wife in Hawaii are in an hr timeslot each of the two nights.

That explains a lot! My mouth was hanging open at watching the opening of this one. It was the most soapy soap I had ever seen in prime time and wondered what the heck had happened to SBS's standard. Their prime time dramas are usually of such high quality. So we are actually seeing two 30-minute episodes per evening. The 120 episodes will end up being 60 episodes for us. Still a long drama.

I ended up not watching the whole thing. The plot seemed a lot like a Korean version of an old 1940's era film (recently remade with new cast), where a sister (a twin) is jealous of the other and when one falls overboard, the evil sister grabs her hand and takes the wedding ring off the dying sister's hand. Then the evil sister pretends she is her drowned sister and slips into that life.

I'll have to watch it more closely, but the male lead character sure seems a slimeball. It looked as though he "took advantage" of the drunk/passed out young woman, she gets pregnant and is forced to marry him. Blah, blah, blah... The beginning I saw seemed awfully cheesy. Don't know if I can get into this one or not. But if KBS's Windy City is truly being discontinued, this one will make a good replacement! Too bad it isn't on at 7:30p nightly.

I find it odd that he would want to marry her that much, don't you think? Considering he had to drug her? She wasn't even willing to marry him and so he attempts suicide to force her?

I think several over at the soompi board have made comparisons of "Lure of Wife" to the novel Return to Eden by Rosalind Miles.

"Lure of Wife" is doing extremely well in Korea, with 40% or 40%+ ratings.

It's the actresses and their characters we'll be watching for in this drama, not the guys.

class blockquote It was the most soapy soap I had ever seenOMG, is that an understatement.... ROTFLOL! I've been busy and missing the start of a lot of the new dramas. Missed Sat's ep, but did see tonight's.

My jaw dropped, too, with this one! A few years ago I watched a Sun, 9 pm risque J drama, but this is the first K drama I've seen this risque.

The guy cheating on his wife with his SIL is a hoot.

With all these new dramas on the main channel and sub-channels, I'm going to keep a written character chart to keep them all straight emoticon

WOW! For me, this is the first drama where a MIL beats her DIL.

Like creidesca mentioned, these characters are so wicked, but you can't wait to see what happens next!

I'm surprised also that there's physical abuse in addition to the usual verbal abuse by a MIL.

After having seen so many K-dramas with the stereotypical "mean MIL," or to a lesser extent the "mean FIL," I'll probably tune in to this one from time to time without getting attached to this story. I've had my fill for now of mMILs after the recently concluded "Destiny."

Isn't anyone watching this one!! This is so trashy its fun!!

I'm surprised with last nite's ep.... Ae-ri giving direct clues to Eun-jae about having an affair with Eun-jae's husband. I guess you can only drag the "clue-less wife" for so long.

Eun-jae's husband was a riot. His answer about the ring and what the initials stood for was too funny.

You guys really need to watch with a good sense of humor, sit back and enjoy.

I can't spend time on this drama. I have tried to watch a few scenes but I don't think this is a nightime drama. It surely should be on in the afternoon for the ajummas. Well I shouldn't say that since I am too old to even be called an ajumma...but really this is worse than any US daytime rubbish.

I think I will skip this one.

It actually is a night time daily drama...the funny thing it airs at 7:30PM in Korea.

I'm gonna start really watching around EP 15 when class reveal Image class spoiler Gyo-bin drags his wife into the sea and leaves her there to die

You gave me a good laugh, Peggy! No one could have said it better! emoticon I think I watched maybe half of three different episodes then, without any hesitation at all, erased it from my recording schedule! This is the absolute worst thing I have ever seen. Some dramas are so bad they are funny. For me, this isn't one of those.
