I have one question about receiving this station. Can it be received if you have cable or a dish? I don't have either so I don't really know, but I told someone about this station who has a dish and they couldn't receive it even on a newer tv set with a digital tuner. I told them maybe they have to turn off the dish.I think it might all depend if your cable or satellite provider carries the digital station. If not you might have to get a converter box (for an analog set) and use a OTA antenna to receive 18.3.
Like xraymind mentioned in his post above, you don't need to buy a special digital antenna. A set top antenna (rabbit ears) or old rooftop antenna will work just fine. But remember that your reception will all depend on your location, go to TV Fool and enter your zip code to find out what stations are available in your area, it will also show you which way to point your antenna for best reception.
I read in another forum that one person just rigged up the coax to a nearby metal curtain rod and was able to receive signals. LOL!
Tip: Use good cable, at first, I had ours hooked up to an old rooftop antenna with flat 300 ohm cable, I switched to RG6 quad cable and was able to pick up a few more stations, and now all channels get better signal strength.

MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008
well, they're re-airing EP 3 of Be Strong, Geum-soon right now...so could they have either skipped EP 2 by accident or instead of EP 1 re-run yesterday, aired EP 2?

Re: MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008
bubu, thanks so much for all the technical info you provide in "English" (non-geek speak LOL!). One of these days I may actually understand and have a half-way decent set-up going on.
After I master this analog to digital converter stuff, I'll have to start facing the fact that my VCR isn't going to work after February 2009, right? I presume I'll have to switch to some sort of digital recording device. (I have a headache already....)
Currently my problem is not the MBCD channel. It comes in fine. It's channel 44.1 (KXLA) that doesn't come in at all in the evenings ("No Signal"). Maybe changing the direction of the "rabbit ears" will remedy that. But this is one of the biggest pains in the neck I'm experiencing so far—having to monkey with the indoor antenna for certain channels (at certain times in the evening) to get a picture that doesn't keep disintegrating before my very eyes at the most critical spots in the dramas!
Yes, I've gone to TVFool... I hope that will help us. Or maybe I should get myself a big curtain rod with some super duper RG6 quad cable!

• I think your VCR should still work, but you'll have to run the RF coax from the converter box OUTPUT to the ANTENNA IN on the VCR. (see example below)
• Do you get "No Signal" every evening on 44.1 or just occasionally?
I'm not sure this is from the same transmitter tower as 44.1, but you can try the alternate channel, 57.2 KXLA-DT. It's the exact same program schedule as 44.1.
About a week ago, my channel 9.1 KCAL-DT would lose signal in the evenings, but the next day it's back to a strong 90 strength. (analog channel 9 still came in fine, but that's a completely different transmitter) I don't know why this happens, but maybe the stations could be performing some type of maintenance? Let's hope that the stations will get all this testing done before the Feb. 2009 deadline.
If you find that one of your stations start losing signal during the day, it could be due to a phenomenon called fading.
The AVS forums have tons of technical info for geeks, but there are also people there who can answer (in plain English LOL!) just about any question you might have... here are some links.

Re: MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008
WWelllllllll.......
this may be plain English to some people..but it's ancient Greek to me. I am not a technical person at all. I don't even know what is being talked about with the new channels.
Right now I have been dithering around trying to decide which new HD TV to buy. they are looking at me with tired eyes at Costco.
I am looking at Samsung and then my PC techie told me to investigate VIZIO. Made close by, or at least .offices in Irvine.
I am on cable with Cox and already have a box. I hope they will replace this with a new one when I get a new TV. I suppose the TV in the bedroom will not work at all when the new system starts. It does not have a box at all. Good picture now but not all the channels. What a waste of good TVs.

Re: MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008
Peg,
I know this can get confusing... don't worry if you don't understand all this tech talk, and don't hesitate to ask us any questions you might have about this upcoming analog-to-digital changeover.
1. Is your current TV analog or digital?
(Not sure?... The best way to determine whether your TV set has a digital tuner built into it is to consult your owner's manual. If that is not possible, you may be able to look up information about your TV set on the manufacturer's website or in some instances, the back of the TV itself. You are trying to find out if your set has an input connection labeled "digital input" or "ATSC.")
2. If you currently have only one box, I'm assuming that is your cable box (Cox). Are you able to watch the digital channels thru that cable box?
* If you have an analog TV set, and you can't receive the digital stations, then you might need to check with your cable company. There might be some sort of digital upgrade that you will need to ask about? (according to their FAQ, it seems you should already be able to receive digital channels)
If you have Cox Basic Cable, you probably have to upgrade to Cox Digital Cable.
http://www.cox.com/support/cable/transition_main.asp
http://www.cox.com/support/cable/transition_faqs.asp
* If you already have a digital TV set, you should be able to watch the digital stations, by just adding an antenna (rabbit ears or rooftop), you wouldn't even need to go thru the cable box (Cox).
3. The set in your bedroom, or any other (analog) set that isn't connected to the cable box (Cox) will need a digital converter box (for each set)... then you will still be able to use your older sets after Feb. 2009.
4. As of March, 2007, all new televisions must be digital ready, so when you purchase your new set, you won't need a digital converter box... but, you still will have to subscribe to Cox cable if you want the pay-for view programming.
Hope this was some help.

MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008
Looks like they're showing "Who Are You?" w/ e-subs (it didn't air w/ e-subs on KTAN I believe) right now...I don't know if this is the re-run of today's EP or not, or whether there will be a re-run or not.

Re: MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008
bubu,
thanks for post. Yes I am into the Cox digital channels. and myTV, altho not digital, is able to get more channels than I have eyes to watch them... I just want to get a new HD set because the one I have now, although large, is not really a clear picture. Even when I hit it there is still not a really good picture. At least I don't think so.
I think I may get a Vizio or a Samsung from Costco. It's really just a matter of going there to do it. Then Cox will set it up for me.
You can be sure if I need info I will be tugging at your coattails. Dear Bubu :-)

Most of the programming is cut back now and doing Olympics or China related programming instead.
