Re: MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008

I saw Local News on 18.8 mention GIS TV (which country?) is new digital channel (possibly on 18.4 or replace Top TV on 18.6?). I may be wrong. Anyone see it?

MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008

be on the lookout, starting this Sat, new dramas w/ e-subs will be airing on the station: All About My Family (10:10PM), whereas Park Jung-geum (12:40AM and 10:50AM) starts on Sunday. Neither dramas ever aired on LA-18/18.1 during KTAN programming.

I don't believe Time Warner Cable has this channel. You will need a converter box hooked to your TV and either an indoors antennae or outdoor/rooftop antennae.

I'm unclear about how to get the channel also. If you are hooked up to cable would you still need a converter box?

And if it's free would it matter what cable company you have? I do have TW...

Thanks...

I believe as nchristi stated in a different post/thread, that cable providers don't necessarily offer all available channels (that would mean the station/channel and the cable provider in question would have to be signing a deal). If you call the cable providers, they will likely not even know of these substations.

You might want to check this page out, it has a video tutorial as to how to set up to receive MBC-D 18.3 if you are already receiving digital TV thru a cable/satellite service provider: http://www.mbc24tv.com/?mid=dtv

Re: MBCD (18.3) - free 24hr over the air channel starting Aug 1 2008

That's a great link, creidesca. MBC has put together a really simple, understandable little tutorial. Best I've seen for those who just want the simple basics of how to get all of this to work.

nsheldon, according to the tutorial for those who have cable service, you will need only a Digital TV (DTV) ANTENNA and an RCA CABLE (a cable with the three ends that are red, yellow, white).

According to this tutorial, because you already have a cable company converter box, you will NOT need a separate digital converter box. You will just need to learn how to switch back and forth on your remote control between cable viewing (TW) and TV "over the air" viewing (that will come through the antenna you must hook up as shown in the tutorial).

This is the overview of what you have to remember: 1) You have your regular TW cable viewing and you're used to how that works. 2) If you want to watch MBCD 18.3 (or 44.1, etc.), on your remote control you have to switch out of "Cable" as your source for viewing, and over to "TV" as your source for viewing.

You have to do one or the other. TV Source (antenna) and Cable Source (TW) do not work at the same time. It has to be one or the other. You can easily switch back and forth, but MBCD and the other digital substations cannot be viewed through your TW cable (unless TW adds that particular substation to its subscrition package). So, if you are watching something on TW and want to see a program on MBCD 18.3, you can easily switch to the TV Source. If you want to go back to a TW program, then you have to switch the source back to "cable." Clear as mud? emoticon

looks like MBC-D will be airing the very new saeguk drama "Moon River"/"Return of Iljimae" (still currently airing in Korea) starting this Wed-Thurs at the 9:50pm-11:10pm timeslot! and with ENG SUBS according to LA-18's schedule page.

hmm...1st EP of Park Jung-geum isn't subbed. Could the LA-18 schedule be incorrect then? But last night's 1st EP of All About My Family was subbed.

Sorry, creidesca, I've been away from the Boards for awhile and didn't see this thread until now. In another thread I brought up these two dramas. Watched the last half of LL ABOUT MY FAMILY after watching LURE FOR WIFE.

There is another 40 min one called HIGHKICK. It's description says its a sitcom of 3 generations living in the same house. Going to watch my first ep tonight so not sure if e-subtitles.

That's great that cable people can switch back 'n forth to "regular tv" to watch the digital sub-channels, if they have a digital-ready tv. I've been on rabbit years the last 3 years and installed my digital box a few weeks ago.

My only question though, if cable people switch over to digital viewing (non-cable) on their digital-ready tvs to watch the sub-channels not provided by their cable company, won't you need rabbit ears to pick up the digital airwaves since you're not getting the reception through cable. Hope that mad sense.

EDITED TO ADD: HIGHKICK is on ep 83 with no e-subs and get this, it has a laugh track. emoticon Long lost mother from PRECIOUS YOU is on this one.

Also, a lot of programs on the sub-channels repeat long into the night if anyone misses the earlier showings.
