“Right Brain v Left Brain”
From the Herald Sun newspaper: class blockquote class float-right October 09, 2007 12:00am
THE Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?
If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.
Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.
LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe
RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk takingFor me, the dancer spins clockwise on her left foot, and I cannot get her to change directions in my mind.

Re: “Right Brain v Left Brain”
Me too. I only see clockwise. I can't switch to the counter clockwise action AT ALL !!. But I'm left handed. Does it mean it's all related?

Re: “Right Brain v Left Brain”
Wow, this is weird.
I just tried the test again, and now she's going counter-clockwise!
After staring at the image for way too long, I think I figured out what works for me. I keep focused on where her foot touches the floor/shadow, and after about 5-10 rotations she switches directions... works every time.
I'm curious about what Mogi Kenichiro, the host of NHK's Professional has to say about Ambidextrous Mindset.

For those who wonder if there is some inherent directional preference to the test, one of my fellow alums reversed the order of the frames. By all rights, that should mean the lady is spinning in the other direction. However, I still see her spinning clockwise, only.
And several of my fellow alums (from whom I got this story and who are discussing it on our alumni mailing list) agree with bubu13 that they are able to reverse the direction of perceived spin by concentrating on her foot. But it doesn't work for me.

Re: “Right Brain v Left Brain”
I see her going clockwise mostly. At first it was impossible to get her to go counter clockwise. Staring at the picture didn't help at all. Only when I was looking at the LEFT vs. RIGHT functions and not paying attention to the gif did she move the other direction.

Re: “Right Brain v Left Brain”
I’m spending way too much time on this !! It’s not even funny !
First, when I looked at the “Reverse the order of the frames” from ccwf. It’s counter- clockwise all the way.
Then I tried Bubu’s staring method. It still doesn’t change direction. Then I tried to stare at it with one eye at a time…Voila! For about 2 seconds, the lady spins the other direction, but then it switches right back…..
I give up.

Re: “Right Brain v Left Brain”
Yay! I finally figure out a way....... And it works every time for me now.
When I tilt my head to the left, the lady spins counter-clockwise. And it spins clockwise, if I keep my head straight!!!

Pandapop....
I tried all your ways and she is still going clockwise. I must be really stuck in my right brain.

Re: “Right Brain v Left Brain”
I’m intrigued by this! This morning I tried to switch the spin again. And it depends on how I move my head, the positions of my head controls the spins directions----clockwise , counter clockwise, and sometimes she swings back and forth like a pendulant.( edit:should be pendulum. Thanks BuBu )
Does this mean that, if I want to solve math. problems quicker, I should tilt my head to the left????
