Re: K-STAR: 신구 Shin Gu/Shin Goo

Bravo vannessave! After watching this talented actor in two recent outstanding KDramas, we've all gotten a good look at how diverse his skills can be and how spot-on his interpretations of the characters he plays are. The award he received for PIH was a bit of a surpize to me considering how outstanding Goo Hye-Sun was only to see her and Lee Jun-Ji relegated to the category of best newcomers. I sort of equated KBS's way of doing business as being much like we do here in the US with talented younger actors waiting for their day of recognition to come while they gave out Ocsars as sort of a lifetime achievement or in recognition for omissions made in the past (as in the case of Paul Newman, who won for 'The Color of Money' after being nominated and losing the golden statue for such great roles as 'Cool Hand Luke', the original fast Eddie Felson in 'The Hustler', and several other notable performances, and late in career awards that recognized fellow notables like Humphrey Bogart, and John Wayne.) When he and the actor that played Mr. Koh won, I was happy for the show, but disappointed for others in the cast.

After seeing his performance in the recent 'Thank You', I was completely won over and am looking forward to him picking up a few prizes on the awards curcuit at the end of this season. Having only read one negative viewer response to the show of the several hundred that I've come across on this board, veoh, crunchyroll, and a few others, it would appear that the jury is out and have declared "Mr. Lee" as nothing less than a winner.

Like the great character actors/actresses of the past that were the backbone of nearly all of the films from the "golden age"of Hollywood, actor Shin Goo is a monument to a craft that has become seasoned and perfected over the years. I am proud to say that I am a fan of his and will look forward to uncovering and discovering the gems that he has certainly produced over his long career and eagerly await those that appear on the horizon.

Mr. Lee, I salute you! emoticon

There is news that he will also be in Goo Hye-Sun's new drama. That will be nice to see them together again.

I've seen him in 3 things so far - Pure 19, Seoul 1945, Thank You. What a range

Oooh, I missed him in Seoul 1945 (which, unfortunately, I saw only sporadically) but it will be great to see him back together with our little angel. Someday, I plan to watch '1945' from cover to cover (along with many others) but my mind has to be in the right place. The ten, or so, episodes that I did catch on KBS were great, but not very light-hearted. I tend to like a little bit of laughter with my tears. I didn't get too much of that with that series.

Re: K-STAR: 신구 Shin Gu/Shin Goo

Recently I've been watching 'I'm Sorry, I Love You" (on veoh) in which Mr. Lee again appears as grampa to the star of the series. This one comes highly recommended by other posters (I think that read somewhere it was from the same writer as 'Thank You') I'm six episodes into this series and have yet to find it anything but disturbing. I like the female lead and a couple of the other characters, but most of it has been a big downer for me, so far. I guess I'll soldier on through to see where it leads. (Fortunately, I'm also viewing the new Yoon Eun Hye series and she never lets me down! emoticon )

Although MBC mysteriously neglected to to include a category for "Mr. Lee" to snag another "choco pie" emoticon, SBS came through by giving the great Shin Goo the Achievement Award for his work in two it's dramas (War of Money and The King And I.) Another busy year of hitting his mark and delivering his lines like no one else can.

Congratulations to our favorite Grandpa! emoticon

I recently saw Shin Gu in the "2009 Lost Memories" movie. The movie was pretty good and Shin Gu had some solid acting like always

The great Shin Goo looks to have another tear-jerker (with plenty of chances to smile as well) on the way. Check out the Soompi thread for pictures and info:
